Chapter 16: An Enormous Udder

Madam Vex returned fifteen minutes later and led them to the carriage just outside the building’s gate.

The carriage wheels crunched on gravel as they pulled away from the main estate. Kael pressed his face to the small window, watching the grand building shrink behind them.

"Are we going to Lady Leya now? " Sara whispered, her silver mask catching the moonlight.

Madam Vex sat across from them, her golden mask reflecting the carriage lamp’s glow. She didn’t answer Sara and instead, placed her hands on her lap, fingers drumming a silent rhythm against her dress.

The carriage turned down a narrow path lined with tall hedges. Branches scraped against the windows like skeletal fingers. After a few minutes, they stopped in front of a smaller building hidden behind the main estate.

This place was different, much simpler. The walls were dark stone without decoration. Only a few windows showed warm light from within. It looked like a guest house, maybe, or servant quarters for important visitors.

Madam Vex stepped down first. "Come," she said, her voice flat.

They followed her across a small courtyard paved with smooth stones. A fountain bubbled in the center, shaped like a woman pouring water from a jug. The sound was peaceful after all the noise and chaos of the main hall.

A young maid waited by the building’s entrance. She wore a simple gray dress and had her brown hair tied back in a neat bun. When she saw them approach, she curtsied.

"Madam Vex," the maid said. "Lady Leya is ready for them."

"Good." Madam Vex turned to Kael, Sara, and Lila. Her golden mask hid her expression, but her voice was serious. "You’re on your own now. Remember what I said—do everything possible to satisfy our clients."

She handed them over to the maid like packages being delivered. Without another word, she climbed back into the carriage. The driver clicked his tongue, and the wheels began to roll. Soon, the sound faded into the night.

Kael watched the carriage disappear around a bend in the hedge.

"Please take off your masks and follow me," the maid said. Her voice was soft but firm. "Lady Leya has been waiting."

Kael reached up and untied his blue mask. The night air felt cool against his whole face for the first time in hours. Sara and Lila did the same, looking as relieved as he felt after taking off the mask.

The maid led them through the front door into a hallway lit by oil lamps. The walls here were plain wood, not the fancy gold and marble of the main estate. But everything was clean and well-kept.

Their footsteps echoed on the wooden floor as they walked deeper into the building. Moments later, Kael could hear voices ahead, of women talking and laughing. The sound seemed familiar somehow, though he couldn’t place why.

They stopped outside a door made of polished oak. The maid knocked twice.

"Come in," called a sweet voice from inside.

The maid pushed open the door and gestured for them to enter. "My Lady, they’re here."

The room beyond was large and comfortable. Soft carpets covered the floor. Cushioned couches and a large King-sized bed were arranged around a fireplace where flames danced behind iron grates. Candles in silver holders cast warm light that made everything glow.

And there, sitting on a low couch near the fire, were two women.

Kael’s breath caught in his throat.

Both women had removed any masks they might have worn earlier. The first had long black hair that fell in waves past her shoulders. Her skin was pale as cream, and her lips were painted dark red.

She gave out mature ’mommy’ vibes and wore a silk robe the color of deep wine that clung to her curves and fell open enough to show the snowy peaks of her chest.

The second woman had golden blonde hair braided with small pearls that caught the candlelight. Her robe was midnight blue, tied loosely at the waist. When she moved, the fabric shifted to reveal smooth skin and generous curves that made Kael’s mouth go dry.

Both women were beautiful in a way that seemed almost dangerous. Like flowers that might be poisonous if you got too close.

The blonde woman, Lady Leya, Kael assumed—smiled when she saw them enter. "Welcome," she said, rising from the couch with fluid grace. "I hope Count Varnell’s celebration wasn’t too overwhelming for your first time."

As she stood, her robe fell open a bit more. Kael tried not to stare obviously and look desperate, but it was hard to look anywhere else. The woman seemed to know the effect she was having and didn’t care to hide it.

The dark-haired woman laughed, a sound like silver bells. "Morwen, you’re being wicked again."

’Oh, i guessed wrong.’ Kael thought as he focused on the dark-haired woman.

"Am I?" The blonde, Morwen, turned to her companion with a grin. "I was just being friendly."

Kael caught the name and felt a jolt of recognition. Earlier, in the main hall, he’d overheard someone talking about a Lady Morwen. Something about her husband being a acquisition department head in the Church of Sacredflame.

Morwen noticed his stare and raised an eyebrow. "You look surprised, young man. Have we met before?"

"No, my lady," Kael said quickly. "I just... I heard your name mentioned at the party."

"Oh?" Morwen’s smile turned sharp. "What did they say?"

Kael cussed his loud mouth in his mind. He’d spoken too much and now, he didn’t know if he should he tell her what he’d overheard. The conversation had been about whether her husband knew she was here.

"They wondered if your husband was aware you were attending tonight," he said carefully, fully expecting a cheating-wife-caught-red-handed type of outburst.

Both women burst into laughter. Morwen laughed so hard she had to sit back down on the couch, her robe shifting dangerously as she moved, revealing a cute haircut in her pantless pubic region.

"My dear husband," she said, wiping tears from her eyes. "His poor soul probably thinks I’m at a prayer meeting with the other church wives. If only he knew what kind of praying I’ll be doing tonight."

The dark-haired woman shook her head, smiling. "You’re terrible, Morwen. What if someone tells him?"

"Let them try," Morwen said with a shrug that made her robe slip off one shoulder, revealing her voluminous breast in its full glory.

Kael’s nasal blood vessels almost burst at the sight of that... Hell, even the girls were stunned at the size of that enormous udder.

’How does she walk with that...!?’ the thought scared and somehow aroused them.

Morwen feigned ignorance at their reactions and continued, "Half the men at that auction tonight are married to women in my prayer circle. They’re hardly going to talk."

Lady Leya, the dark-haired woman, gave a knowing smirk then turned her attention to Kael, Sara, and Lila. Her eyes were green as emeralds and just as bright.

"But enough about boring husbands," she said. "You three are much more interesting. I understand you work for Madam Vex?"

"Yes, my lady," Sara said, finding her voice at last.

"Excellent. Then let us experience how good your services are." Lady Leya moved closer, her silk robe rubbing against her skin with each step.
