Bride To His Darkness-Chapter 370: Vanquishing A Demon
Chapter 370: Vanquishing A Demon
A powerful gust of wind encompassed the building, sending the souls lingering about vanishing into thin air. Those who tried to escape the incoming wind, knowing they would face proper judgment after this, ran towards safety, but evading the wind was inevitable, and they were instantly swept forward, only to have their forms vanish into dust.
Carmela dropped to her knees, and she stared with horrified eyes as her hands slowly began to vanish before her very eyes, a situation she feared more than anything. She shook her head in denial, refusing to accept the truth, she looked like she was going crazy, and when she lifted her head to gaze at Samantha who towered in front of her, a surge of fury roused within her.
"I’LL KILL YOU! YOU HEAR ME??" And when she reached for Samantha with her already vanishing hands, all Samantha did was wave her hands dismissively in front of her, and Carmela’s soul was swept away, like sands caught in the wind. There was immediate silence after Carmela’s scream died down, and Samantha glanced at Alistair, who gazed at his own body, starting to slowly vanish like everyone else.
He seemed content with what was happening, to Samantha’s relief, but at the same time, she hated the idea of this being their last encounter together. He helped her, regardless of the consequences it brought, and maybe... if there was a way... a way to bring him back... she would do anything to make sure he comes back but—
"Alistair."
When he met her teary gaze, his eyes curved into a crescent moon, and he did the only thing he was capable of doing at that moment.
"Take good care of my little niece." He made the sign with his hands, pure affection displaying in his countenance. It was the only message he could send across before his soul vanished into thin air, and Samantha stared in a daze at the sign she interpreted, or assumed she did.
His little niece?
Snapping out of her reverie, Samantha wanted to exit the top when unexpectedly, Marius’s form materialized in front of her. He grabbed her by her throat, and Samantha soon found herself dangling from the edge of the building, with Marius’s grip tightly around her neck.
"Let go of me!!"
"What have you done???" Marius’s eyes were bloodshot with fury. "Why did you... why would you ruin everything I’ve worked hard to maintain for many years! I spared your filthy life for one particular reason, Samantha, and that’s to gain power. I needed to bring back the lost glory that was ONCE TAKEN FROM ME!!! AND YOU DO THIS????"
Samantha could barely breathe when she felt his grip tighten around her neck. She swung her legs in a desperate attempt to provide her lungs with some relief, but she knew if she did so, she would be dropping to her doom. Whichever option she chooses she was sworn to die, but for Marius to be here all of a sudden, did he–
"Looking for your husband?" Marius questioned softly after observing the panic in her eyes. She was presently hanging between life and death in an unstable balance, but she’s more concerned about some vampire??
"You wound me." And his grip tightened further. "What use can I make out of someone who has grown persistent and immune to my commands? Love... is really a foolish thing!"
"Marius!" Ivan’s voice drew his attention, and Marius glanced behind to see the vampire standing on the rooftop as well. Ivan halted when he witnessed the situation Marius had placed his wife in, and there was a lopsided grin forming on the demon’s thin lips.
"Ivan."
"Let her go, Marius." Ivan seethed, ignoring his own critical predicament. He had forgotten Marius’s ability to materialize at his wish, so when the demon vanished out of the blue during their battle, he had to start searching for a way to get up here. But now, situations had turned, and he was hanging on a balance between going after Marius and saving his wife.
"Can’t you see this is over!" Ivan pressed on, his gaze transfixed between Marius and his struggling wife, "let her go while you still have the chance of redeeming yourself, end this madness of yours, this sickening obsession that drives you mentally crazy! Face the consequences of the sins you’ve committed, and let her go."
"Let her go?" Marius’s gaze flickered to Samantha who was still dangling at the edge, and he answered. "Fine."
He loosened his grip, and he let her go.
"SAM!!!" Ivan wanted to run to the edge, but Marius’s wings spread forth, and he blocked Ivan’s path, sparing him to the ground. He had Ivan on a lock hold, stopping him from going near the edge where he was sure Samantha would have fallen to her doom.
"If I can’t have her, neither of us can." Marius uttered, laughing maniacally at Ivan’s shock-stricken visage. "Might as well say goodbye to your unborn child who—" and Ivan elbowed him straight in the face. Marius stumbled back from the force of the hit, startled, as he had not expected Ivan to break free from his hold, and a barrage of blows was what he experienced next.
He was being punched countless times that he broke through a pillar with his body, and Ivan’s eyes, steaming with untamed rage, he grabbed Marius by the foot and smacked him to the floor like he weighed nothing. Marius felt the impact from every hit, and he was only able to catch a second of his breath when Ivan lunged the final hit.
Knowing he had the demon weak and unable to take action, Ivan ran towards the edge, looking below with eyes that revealed a fear of what he assumed he would see, and what he hoped to see. However, his wife’s body was nowhere at sight, and he could sense her presence.
She was still alive, but where is she?
"Samantha!" He called out, checking below the edge more properly in case she was hanging somewhere he couldn’t see.
Meanwhile, Marius had risen to his feet, and using whatever strength he could muster, he forged a crystal-like sword in thin air. He grabbed it by the hilt, wanting to aim for Ivan’s heart and end this battle once and for all, but, before his sword had the opportunity of plunging into Ivan’s back and ripping out his heart, a sudden force made him halt without his intention.
Sensing the killing intent behind him, Ivan turned around to see Marius poised with his blade, attempting to stab him, but for some unknown reason, he could not move.
"What is happening?!!" Marius tried to break free from whatever force held him down, but he was unable to escape the vice-like grip.
"What... what is this??" Marius seemed to panic, but then something flew past him with the speed of light. His gaze instantly followed the source of the strange wind, taken aback, and mid-air, a golden-blonde haired woman hovered, with her transparent wings coming to light.
She had her hand stretched forward, her eyes glowing, and he immediately knew she was the cause of his predicament. However, nothing prepared him for the sight he had witnessed, and it felt as though he had seen a ghost.
"You..."
Before he could speak, Samantha flicked her hand, redirecting the sword in Marius’s grip to turn and stab him hilt-deep to the chest. Every slight movement of her hand was like commanding the blade to act to her will, and it twisted Marius’s chest, eliciting a painful cry from the demon.
"ARGGHH!!!!" Marius knee’s dropped to the ground. The sword he had just created was not meant for him!! He was supposed to use the sword to get rid of Ivan! He wasn’t supposed to be stabbed with the demonic sword he forged!
"NO!"
"To vanquish a demon." Samantha whispered, "one must wield the weapon they themselves forged."
"You cannot do this!!!" Marius’s gaze shifted to Samantha, and he watched her lips curl into a smile.
"I just did." Using her powers to drive the sword he created out of his chest, she shoved it back in with a slight gesture of her hands, and in her glazed eyes, Marius’s withering body reflected in them.
