Chapter 345: Mind-link

In the heart of the elf community, panic spread like wildfire as Carmela’s imposing knights, all clad in menacing helmets, stormed the serene community. Brian had summoned his warriors, all of them armed with gleaming blades as they readied themselves for yet another hostile confrontation.

"Everyone, stay indoors!" One of the warrior elves cautioned at the top of his voice, urging everyone to stay indoors and use a spell barrier to protect their home. The frightened elf families scrambled towards the refuge of their homes, clutching their children tightly.

Samantha had assisted the elves in getting some shelter, making sure everyone was safe in their homes. She didn’t know how frightened the people were of Carmela’s knights till now, but since she was the one who has brought this impending doom to their peaceful community, she vowed to make things right for all of them. No one would get hurt as long as she is here.

"Come with me!" Samantha guided a few families into Elara’s cottage, and she locked the door from outside.

"It isn’t safe for you to be out there too." A little girl with pointed ears whispered in a hush tone, her worried eyes gazing at Samantha who was about to scout the land to ensure no one was left outside.

She faced the little girl’s tear-filled eyes and shook her head with a smile, "nothing will happen. Stay here, and I will come back to get all of you, okay?" She reassured the little girl who nodded in silence. That one concerned gesture had filled Samantha’s heart with hope, and she felt more determined to rid Carmela’s men for good this time.

Carmela’s knights eventually made it to the community, but they didn’t cross further since there were elf warriors stationed at the entrance, their blades poised in their grip, as if ready to attack if they made a move. The air crackled with tension as the elf stood firm, refusing to surrender their homes to them, and that only aggravated the knights’ underlying patience.

"We’ve warned you and your people that if we showed up here again, you better be gone from this land, cause we won’t hesitate to unleash destruction upon everything on our path." The leader of the royal knights stepped forward to speak with the commander of the elf warriors, but rather than facing the same silver-haired elf, he was met with a dark-haired man who unhurriedly stepped forward, emerging from behind the warrior elves.

"Huh?!" The leader of the guards scrunched his face in confusion, and then his eyes narrowed beneath the depths of his helmet. "Is this some kind of JOKE?!! WHERE’S YOUR LEADER??"

"Did my presence just get ignored?" Ivan’s blue eyes frowned upon the fifty knights that had disregarded his presence, "should I be offended that you just looked down upon me?"

"Listen here! Pretty boy! If you don’t stay out of matters that aren’t to the likes of you! We’ll destroy this land and offer you as a token to our Queen’s grave!" One of the knights spat and stood straight, "it does not matter if the elves had called for backup, you won’t be able to defeat all of us. You’re outnumbered, so do yourselves the favor by lowering your weapons and accepting defeat!’’

"I see.." Ivan contemplated their words for a moment and snapped his fingers.

"My love." He sweetly called for his wife after he sensed her presence. Samantha stayed within the safety of the land while Ivan and Herbert, including the rest of the elves, stepped forward. Ivan didn’t need to turn around in order to picture where his wife was standing, he could feel her closeness entrapping his senses, and that gave him enough reassurance that she was standing in a place where she wouldn’t be harmed by them.

"Can you shield the community for me?" Ivan tried to use mind link to get through to her, as he’s always heard that such things were common between soulmates.

"Can you do that?" He tried once more, and his heart jumped when she replied confidently.

"Yes."

Ivan looked behind him to see her standing at a safe distance, and she met his gaze with a surprised look before smiling reassuringly at him.

With a sweep of her delicate arm, the forest floor trembled as emerald vines unfurled from the surface of the earth. They spiraled and rose, forming a verdant cocoon that stretched magnificently towards the sky. The vines effortlessly embraced the homes of the elves with a gentle, yet unyielding grip, creating a lush barrier that shielded them from the threats outside. When the knights remained unfazed by the sight of her barrier, they finally reacted when sharp thorns sprouted out from different angles of the vines, daring anyone to approach the barrier.

Once she was done using her powers to create a shield strong enough to hold the community in place, Ivan’s blue eyes switched to a crimson, and he licked his lips, his tongue brushing through his itching, elongated canines.

His wife is just so wonderful!

"Now where were we?"

"HE’S A VAMPIRE! RAISE YOUR WEAPONS AND ATTACK!!" Shouted the leader of the knights, and all his men began to rush forward. Ivan studied their proximity, calculating the amount of damage that would be received before he slammed his boot onto the forest floor.

As his foot made contact, an arcane force surged through the earth, stilling everyone in place. The ground beneath him groaned and split open, creating jagged cracks that snaked outwards like veins. Caught off-guard by the inhumane sight, twenty knights stumbled and fell into the expanding chasm, disappearing into the depths below with a petrified scream. As if the sight wasn’t shocking enough, the ground closed before them, leaving no trace of the fallen assailant.

"Thirty more to go. I shall save the leader because he needs the carving of repentance." Ivan’s spike-filled chain materialized in his grip, and the elves stepped back themselves.

A daring challenge hung in the air, and the knights hesitated momentarily at what they had witnessed. Ivan, however, welcomed their presence, for he had long vowed to rid the world of those who served Carmela, and also use this as his opportunity to avenge his brother’s death. If only his powers weren’t immune to Marius, he would have done worse to that bastard than just having his head taken from his body.

"Kill them!" The leader of the knights raised his command, and that urged the rest to move forward with a war scream.

"They can’t take a hint, huh."

"What if they succeed in getting inside?" Herbert questioned in case there was a plan B, but then he caught Ivan smiling to himself, despite having a number of knights running in his direction.

"If they get inside, my wife will handle it." He said, nearly sounding excited at the thought of it.

"Huh? Your Majesty?" Herbert expressed his confusion.

"Trust her," Ivan’s foot shifted perfectly into a stance, "I have faith in her capabilities. Right now, kill everyone else but save the leader for me. I find him useful, and Duncan can do some work on him."

Samantha stayed within the barrier she had created, and she could hear the loud clash from outside the barrier. She was awestruck at first when Ivan contacted her using the mind-link she didn’t know they shared. The bond between two people tends to unlock as their intimacy grows, and she wondered when she and Ivan found time to unlock the mind-link bond. freewebnoveℓ.com

Does this also mean he could sneak into her thoughts whenever he pleased?

A sudden unfamiliar feeling of alarm coursed through Samantha’s veins, and her pupils dilated at the intent that struck her. Reflexively, she swirled around and unleashed her vines without thinking, stopping a knight who had sneaked up on her with his sword raised.

Her vines were strong enough to hold the knight in place, despite his efforts to break free.

"I will kill–" Samantha barely spared the guard a chance to complete what he was saying before she hoisted him up and slammed him multiple times to the ground, and with a sweep of her arm, she sent her vines throwing the guard with full force till his back came in contact with her thorn-filled barrier. The thorns penetrated his armor, plunging deeply into his back, and that froze the guard in place.

He fell to the ground, unmoving. However, Samantha sensed another presence behind her, but when she turned around, a windy vortex had struck the knight before he could reach her. Turning her head to see who had saved her on time, Esme’s green eyes sparkled at the sight of Brian.

"Need an extra hand? I’m quite good at magic." The handsome elf volunteered, and Samantha clutched her palm into fist before nodding her head in acceptance.
