Bride To His Darkness-Chapter 341: A Little Lamb Taught Me
Chapter 341: A Little Lamb Taught Me
Excusing herself from everyone else, Samantha retired to her tent. She was pondering on why Ivan would suddenly ask to see her privately, but she halted when she caught sight of his striking figure standing just at the entrance of their tent flap. He waited patiently, and the earlier jealousy in his eyes was no longer there.
As if he sensed her presence, he turned around to look at her, and in his hand was a thick, forest-green shawl.
He was wearing a simple, but elegant cream-colored shirt tucked in long black pants, and when he smiled her way, Samantha felt her heart was going to melt into a puddle. There was nothing conniving about his angelic smile, it was as if his handsome face lit differently each time he saw her, whilst she felt even more prideful, and confident that Ivan would love her forever, till death do them part as people tend to say.
As she approached the vampire who prompted her forward, he extended his hand for her to take. Samantha placed her delicate ones in his, meeting his crimson eyes, and he effortlessly pulled her close. For a moment there, she had her thoughts centered on the fact that he wanted to punish her for merely praising someone whom she felt deserved it, but watching him gaze at her dotingly, she had a feeling she may have misinterpreted his intention.
"Don’t work your naughty mind too much, I’m not going to punish you, for now." He teased, catching in on her thoughts. "All I want to do now is pamper my lovely wife, and treat her right. However, praising another man with such adore in your eyes should never happen again. They’re mine alone, do you understand me?"
His cool fingers coiled around her chin, tilting her head up further, and all Samantha could do was nod her head obediently, as if stuck in a mesmerizing trance. The smoldering look in his eyes nearly sent her to her knees, but she managed to steady herself– his effect on her body, heart and soul was still the same as ever.
"How about a walk?" His virile voice made Samantha’s stomach tingle, and there was absolutely no way she could refuse such an offer. Nodding her head enthusiastically, Ivan gladly led her away from the many tents, and hand-in-hand, they took a leisurely walk on the safer side of the shore.
The cool night air enveloped them as they walked in silence, and the moon’s gentle glow illuminated the rhythmic waves that kissed the sand beneath their bare feet.
"We’ll be alright," Samantha spoke confidently as she met her husband’s stare, "won’t we?"
"I believe we will." Ivan reassured her thoughts, and Samantha’s heart fell more at ease.
The rhythmic melody of the waves accompanied the whispering wind as they strolled by. Ivan’s gaze softened as he watched the priceless smile that subconsciously curved his wife’s lips, her hair shimmering like molten gold in the moonlight. If there was a chance when his wife would turn into what she fears she will, then he wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice himself for her sake, just as long as he sees her smiling the way she is now.
"I think there’s something over there." Ivan pointed towards where the water met the shore, his eyes squinting at the micro-object Samantha failed to see, despite her efforts.
"Over there?" She blinked, "but there’s nothing there."
"It’s plain visible, right there, I need you to see it before it gets washed away by the water, come." Interlacing their fingers, he led Samantha towards the distant end of the shore. While she crouched on her knees to have a better look on what he was so fascinated to show her, she frowned when she figured there was really nothing there.
"And I thought I was the blind one," she muttered, "there’s really nothing here you–!!!"
Splash!
Before Samantha could express her confusion, a sudden splash of water engulfed her, leaving her frozen in place– her eyes were squeezed shut and her mouth agape. After recovering from the coolness of the water, she turned to Ivan who cluelessly looked the other way, whistling into the air with his hands in his pocket.
Samantha’s gaze flickered from the empty spot to Ivan, realization dawning upon her. If she didn’t know better, she would have been fooled by his instant display of unawareness.
"You splashed water on me!" She shot Ivan a mock-threatening look, earning her a sly grin as he surrendered to her accusation. He found it cute how she slowly processed what had transpired, only to target his heart with such a tempting evil glare.
"A little lamb taught me." He defended, reviving memories of their first time playing with the ocean.
"You sly vampire." She rose to her feet, a playful glint flashing in her eyes, "is this your idea for a surprise attack?"
"It worked, didn’t it?" He taunted, adding a nonchalant shrug to it.
"Oh, you’ve started something now. Don’t bother seeking my forgiveness because it’s too late." The playful threat in Samantha’s eyes turned into action as she scooped up water in her hands, retaliating with a splash he deliberately received.
Samantha laughed out due to the reaction on his face, unable to keep it in, and knowing her husband, he wouldn’t let her get away with it. They chased each other along the water’s edge, their playful shoves and splashes creating ripples in the moonlit water.
Water droplets sparkled like diamond on their skin, leaving them moist but radiant.
"I was wondering why you had that shawl with you." Samantha smiled mischievously after Ivan helped her dry her hair, and he draped the shawl around her body. They were sitting on the sandy shore, attending to one another like nobody’s business.
"I came prepared, didn’t I?"
Smiling broadly, Samantha cupped his cheeks and placed a tender kiss on his forehead. "You did great!" She praised, unable to stop herself from beaming, and she was sure her face was flushed again. She had long forgotten about her worries, but the one who felt real triumph was Ivan.
"Keep smiling like this." He caressed her cheek, tilting his head slightly, "you’re my beautiful wife, my priceless little lamb, don’t ever forget that."
Samantha nuzzled her face into his comforting palm, and she could hear her heart sing at all the sweet names he called her.
"I won’t forget. Ever. I’m yours."
"Now that’s my little lamb," Ivan smiled in relief at the positive assurance in her voice, and Samantha embraced him affectionately, thinking of how lucky she was to have someone love her in this manner.
From now on, she won’t make herself a burden to Ivan, and she won’t have anyone else endanger their lives just to save her again. She’ll get stronger even if it’s by force, she’ll control the darkness of her powers, and she will stop at nothing to protect the people she cares for, even if it means having to end other lives to fulfill it.
