Chapter 42: Queen Among Workers

By the time Zaiyila regained consciousness, it was already two hours late. She breathed in the familiar fragrance of Everett before slowly opening her eyes.

"My lovely queen is awake," Everett’s voice echoed as he gently kissed her forehead.

"Mhm," Zaiyila smiled and sat up on his lap. "I suddenly fell asleep. I must have disturbed your work," she murmured, slightly lowering her head.

Everett chuckled and caressed her hair. "Nope, my Queen didn’t disturb me. In fact, I’m very glad," he responded, kissing her cheek.

Zaiyila blushed. "Where did you disappear to earlier?" she inquired, then suddenly furrowed her brows. "Why do I feel like I’ve forgotten something important?" she muttered, trying to recall what it was.

Everett covered her eyes with his large palm. "My Queen doesn’t need to bother about unnecessary things. Maybe it wasn’t that important, that’s why you forgot. Forcing yourself to remember might harm your body, and I don’t want that," he reassured.

Zaiyila smiled and nodded. "Then continue your work. I’ll just go down and look around," she suggested.

Everett removed his palm. "As my Queen wishes," he replied, kissing her before gently releasing her.

"I won’t cause trouble. Do your work with ease, okay?" Zaiyila waved and ran off while chuckling.

Everett smiled. "I don’t mind anyway," he murmured. Two men appeared beside him, bowing immediately.

"Make sure the Queen is safe, even at the cost of your lives," he commanded coldly, knowing full well that Zaiyila might want to explore outside.

"Yes, Your Majesty!" the two men responded in unison before vanishing. Everett then returned to his work.

Zaiyila took the private elevator, which dropped her directly at the first floor. "This is so luxurious," she murmured as she stepped out, looking around the vast space. The people working there were so focused that no one noticed her presence.

She chose not to disturb them and noticed another elevator. Excitedly, she ran to it and entered. When the elevator opened, she was stunned by the sight inside.

Compared to the first floor, this area was much larger and filled with people diligently working on computers. They were neatly dressed in white and black, each focused on their own tasks.

"My... my," Zaiyila whispered, covering her mouth as she stepped inside quietly, her eyes filled with wonder.

"Ehn! Who are you and how did you get in here?!" a female voice echoed from behind, startling Zaiyila and drawing everyone’s attention.

Zaiyila froze, realizing everyone was now staring at her. She smiled awkwardly and turned toward the woman who had spoken.

The woman was more formally dressed and looked more mature than everyone else in the room. Her eyes were sharp and intimidating, but to Zaiyila, it was the perfect expression of someone dedicated to their job.

"Hi... don’t mind me. I was just browsing around," Zaiyila chuckled softly, unintentionally showing off her charming dimples, which made her even more adorable.

The woman was momentarily stunned before scanning Zaiyila from her heels to her hair. "This isn’t a place just anyone can enter, but she used the CEO’s private elevator... she’s definitely not ordinary. But... her dress..." She raised a brow. "What’s your name?" she queried.

"I’m Zaiyila... I—" Before she could finish, gasps echoed around the room as everyone immediately stood and bowed their heads.

"Welcome, Miss Zaiyila!" they chorused.

Zaiyila blinked in surprise, staring at them in shock. "They know me?" She thought.

The woman who had stopped her began to visibly tremble, her stern expression collapsing instantly. "Ah! It’s Miss Zaiyila. Please forgive my earlier rudeness. I was blind not to recognize you at once," her voice wavered.

Zaiyila blinked repeatedly, still trying to understand what was happening. "No... no, I should have asked Eve if you were busy before coming here. I disturbed your work. It’s my fault," she gestured apologetically.

No one dared to speak, though countless thoughts rushed through their minds.

The woman’s heart nearly leapt from her chest. "Did I just dig my own grave?" she thought in distress, but before she could say anything else, Zaiyila spoke again.

"You’re very beautiful," Zaiyila remarked honestly.

The woman now wished she could vanish. "Miss... Miss Zaiyila must be joking... compared to your beauty, I’m very plain," she stammered.

Zaiyila pouted. "That’s not true. You’re really pretty and I already like you. You must be very hardworking," she added. "She’s the first woman I can confidently say is truly focused on her work and not eyeing my man. She deserves praise," she thought and smiled warmly.

The woman was now completely lost. "What did I do wrong? Does she want the boss to remove my head?!" she cried internally. "Hehe... Young Miss is very kind," she responded awkwardly.

Zaiyila smiled. "What’s your name?" she asked.

"Ehn!" The woman’s heart skipped a beat. "This is the end!" she panicked. "I’m... my... I’m Ruth," she stammered. "Worst case, I’ll just get fired today," she resigned.

"Ruth? That’s a cool name," Zaiyila beamed. "Don’t let me distract you. You can all ignore me," she added.

"Who would dare ignore you? That’s a death wish," Ruth thought. "Young Miss, please have a seat and let me know what you’d prefer to eat," she offered warmly. "At least let me do something right before I get fired," she sighed inwardly.

Zaiyila shook her head. "I’ll just go somewhere else," she declined, and without waiting for Ruth to insist, she returned to the elevator and waved before the doors closed.

Once Zaiyila left, everyone sighed in relief. Among the crowd, a female staff member approached Ruth.

"Secretary Ruth, she’s the boss’s favorite sister," she revealed.

"I’m aware. You don’t need to add salt to my wound," Ruth retorted coldly.

"But just now—"

"Shasha, please let me have peace of mind before I get fired. Don’t ruin my mood further," Ruth snapped and walked away.

"How pitiful," Shasha muttered and returned to her station. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

Zaiyila returned to the first floor, lost in thought. "She’s very good at her job, with a great figure. I must befriend her. Hmmm... should I talk to Eve about increasing her income or promoting her? Maybe that will make her more willing to be my friend," she mused.

Suddenly, she bumped into someone. Before she could even get a good look at the person, a thunderous slap landed across her face, making her head spin as she collapsed to the ground immediately.
