Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game-Chapter 429 - 235 A whole day of restlessness
From a long time ago, I always knew Charlotte Miller was a wonderful girl. He thought she deserved the love and care of any man, and she would definitely live a happy and warm life.
But when he really saw Rogers coming to her with a bouquet of roses and a pizza, hugging her and saying, "Let’s have a late-night snack together," his heart still uncontrollably ached.
This truly looked like a real family, seemed so perfect and complete, yet in this picture, the only extra thing was him.
If he stayed any longer, it wasn’t because he was afraid of being embarrassed, but because he feared Charlotte Miller would be embarrassed.
He was a man, and he should face the consequences of his actions, so despite his reluctance, he stood up.
His gaze was fixed on Charlotte Miller’s face, and he softly said to her, "Goodbye..."
The thing he hated himself most for these years was the day he got drunk and forced her to that abandoned warehouse. It was a horrific rape, so brutal that he himself couldn’t bear to think about it, and he imposed all those terrible things on Charlotte Miller.
She was already pregnant at that time, and thinking of this made him wish he could kill himself.
Given Charlotte Miller’s physical condition, he still did such a thing to her, he was truly worse than a beast.
Hearing his "goodbye," Charlotte Miller’s heart trembled slightly. She looked up at Atlas Hallow, the soft ceiling light casting tiny fragments on his face. He stood there in the living room looking at her, his intense dark eyes exuding a cold yet gentle light.
"You eat first..." Charlotte Miller put down the piece of pizza in her hand, said to Rogers, and then walked out.
Standing on the lawn outside the door looking at Atlas Hallow, she said seriously, "Atlas Hallow, this is my home, where I live. My mom and Luna also live here. I don’t want them to be disturbed even for a moment because of me. Do you understand what I mean?"
Of course, he understood what she meant. In Atlas Hallow’s eyes, there was a hint of sorrow. Standing so close to her, despite wanting to reach out and hug her, he restrained himself.
His thin lips pursed, after a while he said, "I just want to see you, but I can’t control myself."
"But I don’t want to see you, Atlas Hallow, every time I see you it reminds me of how cruel you were in the past." Charlotte Miller’s clear eyes lifted, meeting his gaze, her brows slightly furrowing.
Atlas Hallow’s expression was almost unmanageable; being rejected was not a pleasant feeling, and the person who repeatedly rejected him was the one he loved most.
"Do you really love him?" When Atlas Hallow asked this, he was cautious yet persistent.
"What if I don’t love him? He is the one destined to spend a lifetime with me. What if I loved you? You and I have long become strangers." Looking at Atlas Hallow, Charlotte Miller realized that his handsome features were so unfamiliar; they never truly understood each other.
"I understand now..." Atlas Hallow’s voice was so low that it seemed to carry a touch of lament.
Charlotte Miller had never heard him speak with such a voice and for a moment didn’t know how to respond.
Watching his tall figure gradually disappear into the night, Charlotte Miller turned around and went back inside.
Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, more than three years had gone by. Even her little Mia had grown into an adorable little angel. She didn’t know what it would be like when Mia met Atlas Hallow one day. She didn’t even know who would hold Mia’s hand and give her to her lover when she walked down the wedding aisle someday.
Charlotte Miller bit her lip. She was too obsessed, forcing herself to be incredibly strong so that when Mia grew up, she could freely choose who she loved and never have the same fate as her.
Rogers, sitting on the couch, had dropped his previous lighthearted demeanor and become very serious. He looked at Charlotte Miller and patted his hand, signaling her to sit down.
Charlotte Miller walked over and sat beside Rogers, leaning tiredly against the couch.
Rogers softly said, "Charlotte, he really likes you..."
You can tell if someone likes someone just by looking at their eyes. When Atlas Hallow looked at Charlotte Miller, his eyes seemed filled with an intense, intoxicating obsession.
"Perhaps." Charlotte Miller closed her eyes, not wanting to talk about Atlas Hallow anymore.
He was her past dream, all the experiences of the past were wrapped up like layer upon layer of scabs.
But when someone brought it up, it peeled away layer by layer, until only raw, bleeding wounds remained. She didn’t want to be hurt anymore.
She picked up her phone and called Oliver Baird. Since Atlas Hallow left like that, there was no need for Oliver to come and pick up Mia.
"So, Atlas Hallow left?" She hadn’t even said anything when Oliver Baird had already guessed it.
"He just left, I’ll go pick up Mia." Charlotte Miller said softly, feeling a slight sense of awe towards Oliver Baird, even though he was Mia’s godfather.
"She’s already asleep, let’s talk about it tomorrow." Oliver Baird said and hung up, leaving Charlotte Miller a bit unwilling, but she had no choice. If she disturbed Mia while she was sleeping, she might awaken.
In the late night, Charlotte Miller lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep until the middle of the night when she finally dozed off.
But she didn’t sleep well, dreaming about three years ago, dreaming about the day she first met Atlas Hallow.
When she walked into the marriage registry, Atlas Hallow turned around in the dazzling light, seemingly inquiring playfully as he called her name, "Charlotte..."
The dream was both sad and a bit sweet, as time cannot be turned back, and you’ll never return to that first encounter.
At six-thirty in the morning, after drinking a glass of warm water and exercising for half an hour, she got ready to head out. Her work didn’t allow for any laziness.
"Luna, you go to the Baird Family’s house today to pick up Mia." Seeing Luna sitting at the table eating breakfast, Charlotte Miller sat down, served herself a bowl of porridge, and started eating with the fried egg.
In the U.S.A, she used to like Western breakfasts like toast, jam, and bacon. But now, she preferred porridge.
Initially, she made porridge especially for Mia because it was good for her weak stomach, but over the past two years, Charlotte herself couldn’t do without it.
"I’m not your maid." Luna also drank her porridge, snorting coldly without looking at Charlotte Miller.
"If you don’t go, I’ll ask Mom to go." Charlotte Miller wasn’t surprised by Luna’s lukewarm, sarcastic tone as it wasn’t the first time.
Yet, Luna’s attitude, though unkind, wasn’t hostile anymore.
"You’re so annoying. Mom isn’t familiar with driving..." After saying this, Luna put down her bowl and went upstairs to change clothes.
Charlotte Miller’s lips curled into a smile; this was the most peaceful time she’d had with Luna.
After she finished breakfast, Luna was already downstairs, dressed and holding a little coat for Mia. Right, it had rained this morning and was a bit cold.
If Luna ever had a baby, Charlotte thought she’d definitely be a good mom.
Luna didn’t say goodbye either, taking the car keys and stepping out, but under the big tree not far from the Miller Family’s house, someone was watching everything happening in that house.
Time passed quickly, and Charlotte Miller sat in her office, staring at those fluctuating lines and numbers that changed every second, feeling a bit tense. Only when the data stopped did she relax a bit, sipping her coffee and slumping softly into the couch.
At this time, Mia should be at home eating snacks, right?
She considered making a call to give further instructions. Though she’d already told her mom before leaving not to open the door for Atlas Hallow, she still felt uneasy. Her nerves had been a bit on edge all day, maybe because Atlas Hallow had come to the United States.
Wherever he was, he always gave her immense pressure.
The phone beeped, beeped, beeped... and after a few rings, Freya Morgon finally picked up.
"Mom, did Mia nap well this afternoon?" Charlotte Miller rubbed her temples, her eyes softening like water when she mentioned her daughter.
"Mia? Didn’t you send her to her godfather’s place?" Freya Morgon didn’t notice the slight change in Charlotte’s breathing on the other end of the phone and continued, "It’s time to pick her up. I made her favorite chicken stew tonight. She drank a whole bowl last time."
"Got it, I’ll go pick her up later." After saying this, Charlotte Miller hung up the phone. That morning, when she asked Luna to pick up Mia, her mom had already gone to the grocery store, so she didn’t know.
So much time had passed, and Luna couldn’t possibly not know that staying out too long could make Mia sick, and she shouldn’t eat outside food.
Charlotte Miller quickly called Luna. She had felt something was off all day but couldn’t pinpoint what it was. Now she realized it and felt a chill run down her back.
