Chapter 208: 136 Can you handle some proper business?

Atlas Hallow did not ask Annie if Charlotte Miller had come.

The pride of a man made it impossible for him to ask such a thing. What if Charlotte dared to deceive him?

What if she really dared to deceive him?

A raging fire burned in his chest, as if about to reduce his reason to ashes.

But the moment Annie knocked and pushed the door open, he saw Charlotte sitting on the gray sofa chair in Ethan Baird’s office. Just a silhouette was enough to identify her clearly, her black hair cascading over the arm of the sofa, outlining her slender back.

For some reason, Atlas let out a breath of relief and strode over.

Indeed, it was him...

Charlotte sensed a very special feeling before he even entered, as if his presence was floating in the air. Before she realized it, he had already arrived.

Recently, he was as busy as a spinning top, so how did he have time to come here looking for her?

"Why are you here?" Charlotte turned around, a light smile on her lips, staring at Atlas. His body seemed to be covered with a thin layer of frost, as if it was too cold outside. The chill seemed to emanate from his body, clinging to the fibers of his camel coat, eventually dispersing from those tiny fibers.

"Just checking up on you to see if you’re working diligently." Atlas took off his camel coat, and Annie took it outside to hang it up, and brought back a cup of coffee.

Atlas always drank black coffee, and it had to be hot; Annie remembered this habit well, having worked for Joseph Shaw for several years.

"Do you need to be so strict with me?" Charlotte found Atlas’s sudden visit a bit strange, but didn’t dwell on it.

"President Hallow, you must be in good spirits. How did you think of visiting my small company?" Ethan Baird said politely. Atlas had never set foot in his company before; his visit today seemed unusual.

"Small company? President Baird is too modest. If this kind of company is considered small, there aren’t many in this city that can call themselves big companies." Atlas sat beside Charlotte, his deep eyes encompassing her petite figure.

The faint rose scent on her body remained untouched by anything.

"Are things all sorted out?" It seemed today’s meeting with Ethan was just an excuse for Charlotte; her main purpose was to meet Jack Smith.

"Nothing much left..." Charlotte pointed to several documents on the coffee table: "The specifics will have to wait until Ethan reviews them to make a decision."

"Then let’s head back together." Atlas said calmly, his sharp gaze slicing through the air toward Ethan’s face, seemingly asserting ownership, or perhaps issuing a warning, maybe an instinctive male behavior.

"Alright." Charlotte stood up. With Atlas here, she was definitely going back with him.

After seeing off Charlotte and Atlas, Ethan sank into deep thought in his office.

"Were you here on purpose?" Charlotte asked after settling in the car, fastening her seatbelt and turning to look at Atlas. Light streamed in through the windshield, highlighting the pronounced features of his brow and nose. The silent intensity he exuded was intimidating.

Atlas met her gaze, his thin lips parting to speak, his voice warm and deep: "I came especially to fetch you..."

Something seemed off about him today. Charlotte tried hard to pick up any clues from his face or his warm voice and calm eyes but found no difference from usual.

Perhaps she was overthinking it.

"I haven’t had lunch yet. What did you have with Ethan?" Atlas’s deep, magnetic voice carried no trace of emotion. Charlotte’s mind raced, and she quietly replied, "It was quite simple. I can join you for some more if you’d like."

At that moment, Charlotte realized if she told one lie, she would need many more to cover it. If she had told Atlas upfront about meeting Jack Smith, this might not have happened. But even if she had, Atlas likely wouldn’t have agreed to let her go.

Could he know? It couldn’t be that fast, especially since the restaurant is famous for its secrecy. Jack chose it for a reason.
