Chapter 93: Insufferable

Sterling Enterprises was a global company which had a very firm foundation in every marketable industry possible.

Real estate, tech, healthcare, agriculture, energy, beauty and retail. The company became one of the largest global corporations around the world.

It was a well known fact, that every corner one would enter in Verizon was filled to the brim with merchandise created from SE.

Meeting any one of the Sterling sons was a dream, meeting Andrew Sterling specifically was plainly impossible.

Valeria couldn’t believe her eyes.

Despite being the number one top model internationally, she still had never been in the same space with anyone of the Sterling sons.

The man before her was tall, with massively broad shoulders, he had a frightening air of mystery around him, with eyes deeper than the darkest pit, yet a face perfectly sculpted in every angle.

A strange chill engulfed her upon locking eyes with him.

In this world, there were men and there were higher men, the person in front of her didn’t fall into any category, he was in a class of his own.

Powerful, talented, and closed off from everyone.

He was unattainable, and Valeria believed she could conquer the unattainable.

"Andrew Sterling, it’s an honor to finally meet you. I assure you, I’m the very best model you can find."

The man said nothing to her, instead he gazed sideways at the woman next to him, who broke out of a daze and instantly presented the contract to Valeria.

"We’ll see about that." He let out with a straight face.

Valeria contained her excitement as she grabbed a pen from her PA and instantly signed the contract without going through the terms, she didn’t need to, she had all she wanted right here in front of her.

Smiling softly at the man, she handed the contract to him but he didn’t take it, the woman next to him did.

The satisfaction couldn’t be hidden from Valeria’s face as she stared at the man non-stop.

This was her one chance, she wouldn’t lose it.

....

Anne nervously followed Andrew out of Starlight modelling agency, she gazed nervously at him but couldn’t think of anything to say to him.

He entered the elevator with a decisive composure, whipping out his phone which was vibrating and picked up a call.

Anne watched every action as she joined him inside the elevator.

She remembered her encounter with him the day before, hadn’t he been upset with what she’d said?

Thinking about it now, she bit her lip in regret. Why did she have to say so much straight to his face?

’...you walk around looking like everyone owes you five thousand bucks, no more like ten thousand...’

Was that part really necessary? She chastised herself.

He’d come here to agree to Valeria’s terms of working directly with him.

Why did he do that when he clearly refused her yesterday? And despite the things she’d said to him.

When he hung up the call, silence filled the elevator space.

Anne wondered if this was a good time to thank him for coming and making things easy for her.

She’d wanted to offer Valeria a chance to work with any of the other Sterling sons, but Andrew himself had arrived.

Anne hadn’t missed a single moment of the infatuated gaze that showed on Valeria’s face. But that didn’t bother her, if having Andrew as her eye candy was what Valeria wanted, now that he came himself there would be no problem, as long as Valeria wouldn’t make the working experience a nightmare.

With a formidably certified nightmare like Andrew there, she doubted Valeria’s arrogance could beat his anyway.

Yesterday when she’d returned to the department, Rebecca had taunted and laughed at the fact that she was going to have a terrible time working with Valeria, luckily this happened.

If Valeria wanted to erupt, she would just step aside and let her butt heads with this giant tornado.

Thinking about that, Anne almost laughed out loud imagining a scenario like that.

What would this giant tornado do if he finally meets his match?

"You must be wondering why I came here?" Anne suddenly heard the man’s voice and almost chocked because she’d just been picturing him in a difficult situation, did he see through her thoughts?

Anne composed herself and opened her mouth but he beat her to it by saying,

"Nothing is ever done right in this company if I don’t step up, so next time..." He turned to her so her gaze would be locked directly with his before adding, "Don’t even think of going to my brothers."

Anne blinked cluelessly.

"But, you were the one who said..."

Her words were cut short by the elevator’s ding and the man exited without waiting for her. She hurriedly followed after.

A few hours later, a full shoot for the ad was setup. It was so last minute, so everyone was working on their toes.

The shooting venue was located in a prissy hotel called Paradise.

The place no doubt looked like paradise on earth. The shoot scene was made to look like a beautiful oasis for the ad that would be released right after the anniversary event tomorrow night. So it was a very busy week for all of S.E’s marketing and PR teams.

Anne was tired of going back and forth all morning, at one point, she squatted in a corner to catch her breath.

After which she got up and hurried back to the shoot scene only to hear Valeria screeching at someone.

"Don’t touch me you disgusting monkey! Get me another makeup artist."

Sighing in exasperation Anne entered and Valeria instantly called for her upon sighting her.

"You there, Clara’s lackey, why is Andrew Sterling not here yet? He’s supposed to be here for this shoot isn’t he?"

"Yes, I spoke to his secretary. He has a very important meeting to attend to so he’ll be here a bit late."

Valeria rolled her eyes.

"Why the hell was this shoot scheduled so early then? If he won’t be here on time, you could have pushed the damn thing till later in the day, I don’t care if it’s done late at night as long as he’s here. All of you are a bunch of annoying idiots. Get Clara here, I’m done dealing with an amateur."

Anne took a deep breath to keep the words at the tip of her tongue inside.

Really, her head was pounding painfully and she was on the verge of losing her cool, if Valeria didn’t stop being so bossy she might just give in to the little devil on her left shoulder and send a slap right to her face to straighten her up.

Instead, Anne smiled and said, "I’ll get Clara then."

Walking aside, Anne called Clara but the phone rang and rang and Clara didn’t pick up.

She was the only one here handling the shoot from her team, there was supposed to at least be someone else from her team here with her.

She called almost everyone from her team but no one picked up. Valeria wasn’t letting the shoot start as scheduled, she was nitpicking everything, from her clothes to the makeup artist when everything prepared for this shoot was the very best.

Was this how tiring it could be to work with celebrities?

If Anne had been feeling her best, she wouldn’t complain at all, but she was more tired than normal, and her body felt like she was on the verge of falling sick yet she continued to push herself.

"Hey, why are you standing there? I need coffee to at least get me through the day, do you expect me to just work like a machine. Get me my coffee!"

Anne palmed her face as she heard Valeria’s voice from behind.

She really was going to lose it.

Regaining her patience, Anne grabbed her jacket to protect herself from the cold then went all the way out to a coffee shop outside the hotel because Valeria requested that, when she returned with the coffee however, the model took one sip and looked at her with a derisive sneer, before she knew it, something warm was poured all over her face.

Anne gasped in shock, opening her eyes to see her hair and body dripping with the brown coffee she’d just bought.

"Are you stupid? You brought me cold coffee!" Valeria bellowed, "God! You can never find good help these days, from dumb assistants to dumb and even dumber lackeys who know nothing but to..."

Valeria’s rant was stopped short as something suddenly hit her. She gasped in shock then realized her whole body was dripping too.

She’d tossed coffee on Anne and the latter actually dared to retaliate by tossing water onto her?

"You stupid little..." Valeria fumed.

"I’ve had enough..." Anne muttered weakly. "People aren’t toys for you to order around and treat them like crap, no one Is stupid or dumb, you’re just insufferable."

A cold sneer rose on Valeria’s lips.

"Bitch, I’ll show you insufferable!" She raised her hand fiercely aiming a slap but Anne timely grabbed onto her wrist.

She struggled to free her wrist in vain, her beautiful eyes turning red in fury.

"You think you’ll get away with this? You dare to disrespect me? ME?!" Valeria bellowed.

"I won’t let this slide! I’ll never..." Valeria’s angry voice broke, "...Never let this go!"

When Anne released her grip, Valeria snatched her wrist away, an evil smile sitting on her face.

"You think you’re something great don’t you? A tiny little company employee wants to play with me, alright I’ll play along."

Valeria pointed at someone without breaking her gaze from Anne, "You! Get me some new clothes, prepare my hair and makeup this instant. The shoot will still carry on, but I want an assistant model."

Everyone at the venue had shrunk away at the interaction currently happening in front of them. No one had ever talked back or complained to a model before not to mention actually pouring water on their face.

This had happened before, and usually the victims would run away crying miserably but this time they’d witnessed an employee fight back.

She was done for!

The girl was done for, Valeria would ruin her, humiliate her in a way she would never be able to redeem herself again.

And the more Valeria spoke with composure, the more frightened everyone became but no one would dare stand up for a mere employee, so Valeria could do as she saw fit.

"Get this girl ready to shoot with me, I’ll be picking out her outfit for this shoot." Valeria ordered.

Anne’s eyes narrowed.

"What are you trying to do? I’m not a model."

Valeria stepped closer, whispering in Anne’s ear.

"I’ll be showing you your place, you want this shoot to happen don’t you?"
