Chapter 210: No Strings Attached?

A pale looking young man could be seen laying in bed with several tubes attached to his body, his face looked extremely frail but there seemed to be hints of life in him, more than what he used to look like when his condition had been in it’s worst state.

His eyes were closed and in the past looking at the youth’s face, one might conclude that he was on the verge of death, but at this moment there seemed to be glimmers of hope.

The image on the tv screen moved, it wasn’t a stagnant picture after all but a live video showing the current moment.

Warm tears suddenly welled up in Anne’s eyes as she stared at the video playing on the tv screen.

"Your brother, is safe." Andrew’s thick voice brought Anne back to reality but she couldn’t tear her eyes away from her brother’s face showing on the screen.

"Where is he?"

"Haarlem, in The Netherlands." She heard his reply and Anne’s gaze instantly whirled to his direction.

"Your brother is under my care Annelise, he is safe."

Not once had she let Kristen stray away from where she could reach, Andrew’s voice sounded reassuring in a way that stunned her, however all she could focus on was the fact that Kristen was far away.

"But I...I have to be close to him, I have to see him."

"If that’s what you want. I’ll take you there, but it’s going to be on my time, so you’re going to have to trust me."

"I’ve never trusted anyone with my brother before, all people do is harm him." Her words came out, voice chocked with pain. In her eyes one could clearly see past traumas resurfacing.

"At some point, we’re all going to have to do things we’ve never done before. Trust me Annelise, nothing bad will happen to your brother."

It was said that loving someone was being willing to see them achieve what they want the most, he knew her goal was having her brother back, it was what he wanted to give to her.

Anne looked back towards the screen where an ongoing video of Kristen showed, though he looked safe, her heart couldn’t settle down.

It was true that life was the most expensive thing in the world, expensive enough that even money couldn’t buy it.

Anne had to resort to selling herself just to use that money to buy back her brother’s life, his health, however regardless of her efforts, she could only buy him more time, not his previous health the way he used to be, but just a promise of him getting better everyday from the doctors was what kept her going but he never really did.

She knew what Andrew offered was priceless and she shouldn’t have any objections to it, but she couldn’t make her heart settle down.

"You’ll really take me to him?" After a long time of trying to make herself accept that she had to let her brother go momentarily if she hoped to get him back, she finally asked.

Andrew merely nodded solemnly and Anne let out a long breath, she raised her gaze to the ceiling to push back the tears gathering in her eyes.

Before slowly letting this question slip from her lips, "Why are you doing this for me? Is this another favor I have to repay, or is a new term to the contract?"

Slowly he began to walk in her direction, the air she breathed was suddenly filled with his masculine scent as he came extremely close to her, she could see his gaze lower down to her lips, and her heart suddenly jumped in her chest.

"You really don’t know why?" His voice had lowered in a raspy somewhat flirty tone that made his minty breath fall close to her face.

He searched her eyes as if waiting for an answer till she eventually shook her head.

"I’m going to give you two days to figure it out, why do you think I chose to do this for you?" After saying that, he pulled away, leaving her staring at him with equal parts confusion and something else in her eyes.

Did she really not know? He wondered.

Did his kisses last night not tell her? He had never kissed another woman like that before.

Did she really not know that right now in his heart, she held a very high position?

Could she really not tell that she was the first woman to capture his heart?

He walked out of the living room with a small smile on his face until he recalled the image he has just gotten a while ago.

Andrew’s gaze suddenly turned cold, one couldn’t fathom his thoughts at the moment.

....

’You really don’t know why?’

Anne could still hear Andrew’s voice in her head even as she stepped into the shower that evening.

She had prepared for a very hot shower to relax her mind and muscles and get some stressful tension off her body.

He had tasked her to figure out why he was helping her, but other than the contract she couldn’t think of anything else that would...

She stopped short while being in the middle of taking off her shirt.

A scene from last night suddenly flashed in her mind.

’.... whenever you think back to that night, I want you to remember here and now.’ her breathing suddenly stopped and a small suspicion lodged itself in her chest.

Something warm began to swell in her heart however dissipated instantly when that suspicion blew over.

Anne quickly shook her head in order not to engage in delusions.

For a moment, her mind had almost led itself to believe that he might actually like her, romantically.

Andrew Sterling and romantic feelings? It sounded like the perfect combination to the word impossible.

"He had sex with you, people do it all the time. It’s called casual sex with no strings attached. Don’t get your hopes up." She muttered quietly to herself then pulled her shirt all the way off her head, standing naked in the bathroom before she stepped into the shower stall.

But what could possibly make the arrogant man suddenly change?

Anne let her thoughts run in several directions as the slightly hot water began to pour over her body in the shower but no matter how much she thought about it, nothing else made sense.

Could it be he saw her as some sort of business...

Anne was suddenly plunged into darkness, the entire lights in the bathroom went off and along with that, the water pouring from above stopped as well.

"What’s going on?" Anne looked around frantically, her whole body was literally lathered in foam. How was she going to rinse up with the water gone?

In the lowest part of the manor where the water and electricity control in the manor was located, butler Jones could be seen cutting off the specific lights and water from a certain room in the manor.
