Chapter 143: Noble?

Clara was very confident that after this day, Anne wouldn’t be able to show her face in the company again.

If she Clara set her sights to do something, nothing could ruin it.

Just like she had pushed Rebecca in the right direction on this one, it seemed some of the people around her were dumb they wouldn’t be able to come up with an effective plan to get rid of someone when the need for it arose.

And this idiot Brian had been too much of a chicken to actually come up and bring up the issue of what happened the other day, she had to send him a little incentive that pushed him out of his hiding place, it was akin to using water to flush a rabbit out of it’s hole. No matter how much the rabbit wanted to hide, it would crawl out when it’s home was flooded.

Brian wouldn’t want his beloved wife to know about his office escapades.

Men had the guts to fool around outside of marriage, but when it came to the consequences of their actions being revealed, they would become as meek as a mouse.

Clara smirked confidently watching Anne move.

The latter walked towards the projector, plucking out a small flash drive.

"What are you doing? Don’t think you can destroy the evidence because I’ve got it backed up." Rebecca screeched when Anne suddenly came over to remove the flash drive.

"I’m not destroying your evidence, I’m just trying to find my own." Anne stated before getting a laptop kept for work purposes in the meeting room, she plugged in the flash drive and began to tap away.

Seeing what she was doing, Brian’s confidence didn’t flinch at all. There was nothing else on that flash drive other than the CCTV footage that just played, and it was the exact thing they played for HR as evidence of her carrying out promiscuous acts in the company.

Nothing she did on that laptop would give her an evidence to prove herself.

Brian thought back to that kick she’d sent right to his groin and his anger mounted.

A woman hitting a man like that, it would make her think she had power over him, and it would give her a false sense of confidence, that’s why it was imperative he cut her down right now to show her exactly who’s boss.

Clara however wasn’t entirely settled with what Anne was doing on that laptop.

She remembered correctly how Sasha had once told her about how Anne had saved herself at the Sterling estate the other day.

The girl might look ordinary but she was not to be underestimated.

Since she was dedicatedly working on that laptop, she had to be sure that she would be able to get something to prove her innocence.

Clara couldn’t let that happen.

She raised a calm gaze to Rebecca giving her a quiet signal but the latter didn’t seem to understand.

Clara was annoyed about how dumb Rebecca could be sometimes, she couldn’t even understand such a simple signal.

Rebecca on the other hand scratched the back of her neck cluelessly, trying to understand what Clara was trying to convey. It took her several minutes before she was able to figure it out.

Her eyes widened and she quickly stepped forward, yanking the flash drive out of the laptop without warning.

"Stop stalling for time. This is our evidence and everyone knows you won’t get anything out of it, you’re just trying to waste everyone’s time by pretending you have some fake evidence."

Anne didn’t stop typing on the laptop even as Rebecca plucked out the flash drive.

"Why are you so impatient Rebecca? You had backup evidence didn’t you?" Anne queried calmly then raised her gaze to Brian.

"You reported me to HR, coincidentally I have something to report to HR too."

As Anne said this, she calmly began to speak.

"About a week ago someone was constantly following me, I noticed him standing outside my house even at night, whenever I went out of my house he would always be there stalking me. I began to wonder, just who was this person?"

Anne’s gaze shifted over three people in the room.

First to Clara who had a small frown on her face, and then Brian who looked like he had no idea what she as talking about, and then to Rebecca who began to shift nervously before swiftly interrupting.

"So what are you trying to say to us now? Do you think we care if you have someone stalking you? What we’re talking about here is how you spoil our team’s reputation by going around offering your body to any man you see around."

"Why Rebecca? You sound a bit worked up, if you allowed me to keep talking, you would have found out that I caught that stalker."

Recalling that night, it was all thanks to Jasmine.

They’d both been at Anne’s apartment that night but ran out of snacks so Jasmine insisted the run to the nearby store to get some. It was as if Jasmine would die if she didn’t have something to munch on for two minutes so they’d gone out to the store and as usual, Anne felt a presence behind them.

Jasmine seemed to have felt it too, so when Anne told her she saw someone a few days ago rummaging through her trash, Jasmine had dragged her through a secluded corner

At first Anne had been astounded by Jasmine’s actions.

Them going in that direction where no one could see was even more dangerous, whoever was stalking her would get a chance to attack them when they were away from public’s eye.

However Anne didn’t expect Jasmine to suddenly launch a kick that sent the man hitting the nearest wall.

Jasmine had been ruthless as she grabbed the man by the collar after bashing up his face till his mouth was bleeding she began to question him.

"Why the hell have you been stalking my friend?"

Naturally the man had refused to talk until Jasmine threatened to take him to the police.

Recalling what happened, Anne knew she would get to bring this up in the office someday, that was why she bidded her time.

It seemed today was the day she would bring this out now. It was almost hilarious how she kept quiet and let these people be even when they were the ones trying to come for her, but in the end they still brought themselves to attract the very trouble Anne wanted to keep down.

"Rebecca, the man you sent wasn’t all that professional in the job you assigned him. It took him two minutes with a broken lip to actually spill the secrets."

Immediately Anne said this Rebecca’s face turned pale. She first glanced around at everyone in the office as if she were afraid of this being out before she spoke up.

"What are you talking about? Don’t tell me that after trying to frame Clara, you’re planning to frame me next."

Anne smiled, "Oh no Rebecca, why would I falsely accuse you of anything? You’re the hero saving the day aren’t you? You must have been so touched about Mr Brian’s so called love and devotion to his wife you marched forward like a righteous soldier to expose me for trying to tempt a married man. You did all that, not because you hate me or anything right?"

Rebecca was visibly nervous now,

"Of course, I’m doing this because I don’t want girls like you to tarnish our company’s reputation. SE is very strict and upright, people like you shouldn’t be in this company."

"Oh how noble of you Rebecca, you should be given an award of the most righteous woman on earth." Rebecca heard the tone of sarcasm in Anne’s voice and became impatient, she sent a secret glance to Clara quietly asking for help.

"Stop beating around the bush Anne, the manager of HR will soon be here to kick you out. Take my advice and start clearing your table before you’re humiliated." Rebecca quickly said.

"Anne, I really wish I could help you on this one, but HR has already been involved. According to company rules you’ll be dismissed, or even worst publicly humiliated to the other company staff to set an example, please don’t allow yourself be disgraced here. You can just leave the company before they get here, I’ll tell them that you decided to resign on your own."

How could Anne not see through what Clara was doing? 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Her leaving on her own would evidently be like her admitting to actually doing what Brian accused. Even if she never returned to the company, that image would spread about her around the company and everyone would find her guilty, even more so because she ran away without defending herself.

Anne however ignored Clara’s words still facing Rebecca she continued.

"You’re so noble and pure Rebecca, but I can’t say the same for your beloved boyfriend."

Upon hearing this, Rebecca’s eyes widened, fear evident in her eyes.

Everyone in the department had heard Rebecca going on and on about her new boyfriend, about how loving and sweet he was and how he drove a very expensive supercar. But whenever she was asked why he never came to pick her up, she would say he was too busy since his company was still starting, he couldn’t come to pick her up from work everyday.

What they didn’t know was that her so called new boyfriend, was the head of a small local gang. When he was wooing her she’d tried so hard to resist falling for a man like him, but in the end her loneliness had overwhelmed her, when she had no one she gave in to the only person who showed her care, but even after falling in love with him, she was still ashamed of publicly showing a man like that as her boyfriend, so she created lies about him.

Anne pulled out her phone at the same time Rebecca began to defend herself.

"What about my boyfriend? I’m warning you Anne don’t start telling lies about my boyfriend."

Anne played something on her phone before saying, "I won’t say anything about him, I’ll let him talk himself."

Raising the video she was playing for everyone to see, Anne fell quiet.

Rebecca staggered a few steps back seeing the face on the screen of Anne’s phone.

"It was...it was my girlfriend, Rebecca, she works with her...she asked me to follow her and report everything she does... what she eats, wears, buys and throws in the trash, everything."
