Chapter 126: The Moon

Evergreen hotels.

Inside of a magnificent looking suite, filled with bright sunlight coming in from the windows.

Nathan Foxx watched the latest entertainment news on a large screen, his eyes glowing darker and darker the more he watched.

It seemed he wasn’t the only one who’d been captivated by that billboard on High square.

The news played clips of the ad released by SE, showing a freshly beautiful face. The girl’s skin was so flawless it glowed with reflections of the lights around her, her face so rosy as if pressing it would make it ooze a lovely drop of dew.

He could already see the industry exploding to get that girl, that was precisely why he’d wanted to get her first but she actually rejected him.

Could it be that SE gave her a kind of offer she couldn’t refuse?

He could double it to get her, triple their offer even.

It wouldn’t be long now, more companies would rush their way to get the girl on their side, she would be drowned with offers from different companies so he had to act fast.

He lazily retrieved his phone and sent out a quick text.

[I want to meet the girl on the billboard, give me a location of where she’ll be.]

.....

Andrew found himself sitting in a classy five star restaurant, though to him the class wasn’t up to par yet as he’d been in better places.

The lighting in the restaurant was soft and warm, setting the tone for an intimate dining. Plush carpets accented the space with rich wood accents and elegant furnishing creating a refined atmosphere. The fragrance in the air was a natural smell of fresh flowers giving a rich and sophisticated feel to the air.

Not bad, Andrew thought, but it still wasn’t up to his standard.

He normally wouldn’t be caught dead at a place like this, his usual places were a lot more high end than this.

This was him fulfilling the terms Anne added to their contract, a very ridiculous term really but he’d play along.

But Andrew suddenly found himself slightly confused.

In love, she’d written. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

How does one show that they’re in love?

The first clause she added was: I don’t want the people close to me to know it’s a fake marriage, in front of my best friend and family, we’ll pretend to be in love.

The only family she had that he knew of was her brother, was she thinking about when her brother would wake up?

He hadn’t taken it too seriously when he’d read that term until he got a call from her that she would need him to meet her best friend before they would get married.

He hadn’t thought too much about it and agreed to meet the so called best friend until she reminded him that they would have to fake being in love.

For someone without any experience with that word or the feelings that come with it, he certainly couldn’t fake it.

That prompted him to call Shawn the night before.

"How do you fake being in love?" He’d asked immediately the latter picked up.

"Fake being in love? Why the heck are you asking that at two AM in the morning?"

Andrew had looked up at the clock indeed confirming it was very late at night. He didn’t have a sense of nighttime since he rarely ever slept anyway, so he still felt as clear headed as he would during the day, that was why he’d had no idea it was that late.

"You can go back to sleep right after telling me." He replied coldly not showing any remorse that he’d woken the latter up from sleep.

He wouldn’t die from being awake for a few minutes? Andrew knew, because he could stay awake a whole night without getting any sleep at all.

Shawn grumbled for a bit before he began to explain.

"You can’t fake love, to make someone believe you’re in love you have to actually feel it." Shawn said like an expert in romantic emotions.

"I don’t feel, I act, don’t give me all that feel love nonsense and just tell me what people in love do."

Andrew was regretting calling Shawn now, he could have gotten a better more direct answer from the internet than that love brained friend of his.

"You know what Andrew? One of these days you’re going to have to get that stick out of your ass and just let yourself feel things, it won’t kill you."

"If you don’t give me the answer I called for, you’re going to be the one walking with a stick up your ass, literally."

Andrew’s serious voice made Shawn gulp.

This uptight tyrant. How dense did he have to be to not have figured out already that something was blooming in his heart?

Did he not realize that starving himself of love for all these years was taking a toll on him?

Being in love was a blessing many people wanted to pursue yet here was Andrew Sterling pushing it away like it was some incurable disease. The idiot prided himself in being a very powerful man with rigid control and a stone cold heart that led him to dominate the business world, but the way Shawn saw it, when it came to matters of the heart, this same dominant tycoon was a bit of a craven.

According to some research Shawn had carried out years ago, Andrew’s lack of sleep stemmed from a severe emptiness in his subconscious, that emptiness was as a result of him depriving himself of natural human emotions.

His body was refusing to find rest if he continued to deny himself of the basic emotional need, but his body would cave and allow him to rest when he got that need he’d deprived himself.

Shawn knew of Andrew’s childhood to some extent, and if there was one very vivid pattern he could describe about something vital that Andrew had always lacked, it was love.

A child raised within the abundant love from his mother and father always grew up having everything one needs in the world, in the reverse case however, that child would continue to carry a scar for the rest of it’s life. A scar that needs to be healed from deep inside.

Andrew suppressed his scar, no, he destroyed it.

When he didn’t get the emotion he needed in his life he hardened himself, steeled himself to not feel emotions but what Andrew refused to accept was the fact that a man needed emotions to feel complete.

He might think he was complete now but he wasn’t, deep inside he was shattered to absolute pieces and he would never let himself reveal that broken side of him.

This rigid man the world saw was internally in pain and he never let himself feel it, so his body was rebelling against him, not until he accepted the quiet feelings he was developing for a woman.

Andrew never denied himself of anything if he wanted it, so Shawn could never understand why he was going through the trouble of denying his heart of a lovely woman like Anne.

Shawn wanted so badly to tell his friend, "Stop fighting it man, you love her. And no matter what you do you can’t run away from that."

But of course those weren’t his words to tell, not until his friend saw for himself that his heart would never know peace without her.

Shawn was patiently waiting, waiting till that moment he could finally mention the L word to his friend without receiving a cold glare or a nasty remark.

With a sigh, Shawn went on to list out some practical behaviors of a man deeply in love, after which he looked at the time to realize they’d been speaking for about half an hour, he could officially say goodbye to sleep for the next hour or so.

"So, are you going to tell me now why you want to know how to pretend being in love?"

Shawn could almost hear the smirk on his friend’s lips over the phone.

"I’ll tell you when you attend my wedding."

And then the phone went dead leaving Shawn stunned unable to speak.

Wait, did he hear that right?

His friend said wedding? Or was it shedding? Or was it wedging? It had to be wedging and not wedding because Andrew...and wedding? Impossible!

Andrew had been sitting in the restaurant for about twenty minutes now, looking down at his watch he frowned subtly. He wasn’t a man who liked wasting his time, and he was...

His thoughts were silenced as he raised his head to the entrance.

The glass doors moved and a figure came into view.

She stepped into the restaurant, a vision in red, that color seemed to dance around her, vibrant and alive as the fabric of the dress clung to her beautifully lean yet curvy figure.

His breath suddenly stopped, those familiar eyes locking onto his and something fluttered in the deepest parts of his chest.

His expression transformed into one of mesmerized wonder, his dark eyes widening ever so slightly with a look of enchantment.

Was his eyes seeing things, or had the moon itself just stepped into the room?
