Bought For A Baby, Kept For A Lifetime-Chapter 120: Bring Them To Me
Anne clutched the at home pregnancy test kit as she left the store and walked back home.
Maybe she still had some doubts, maybe she just wanted to confirm, but she wouldn’t be at ease until she saw for herself that indeed, she currently had a life living inside her.
That had been her mission all along, but why couldn’t she accept that it had already happened?
Why did it terrify her?
Especially with the words Andrew Sterling said to her last night.
"Marry me."
Recalling those words made her heart beat unsteadily until she remembered the terms that came with it.
"Marry me, but only until you give birth. After that I’ll give you your freedom and regain mine, we’ll get divorced and I assure you I’ll compensate you handsomely after our divorce."
Anne reached home and instantly began to tear the packaging of the test kit she just bought.
Locking herself in the bathroom her eyes darted over the instructions written on the package which she followed accurately.
Her heart beat accelerated as she held the test strip, waiting, waiting until a few minutes passed by and the lines started to appear.
First one very vivid red line, then two.
The kit instructions had said two lines meant positive.
Anne felt her breathing suddenly began to come in too rapidly, her heart racing until she had to lean against the bathroom door sliding downwards as her head fell against her knee causing her hair to tumble forward.
It wasn’t a mistake, she was pregnant.
’Marry me until the child is born.’
A heart wrenching pain filled sob suddenly erupted from her throat, then another, and another.
She had given up her first child to a contract and now she would have to marry on a contract.
Just when she had begun to think that the contract with the masked person wasn’t entirely terrible, she was struck with reality.
Her cries echoed in the quiet loneliness of her own bathroom.
....
Andrew walked out of a meeting room with a coldly stern look on his face.
"Is it just me or was he a little too brutal today?" One of the employees in the meeting room dared to ask after the monster in the room finally left.
"Are you kidding? I almost peed my pants when he pinned his eyes on me. Why does he have to be so cold? If he were anything like Mr Gabriel Sterling it would have been a lot easier."
"I felt like I was being grilled, now I finally understand what a piece of meat on a grill board feels like."
"Man, I might skip the next meeting if director Sterling is heading it, I don’t care if I have to pretend being sick."
"He isn’t always this brutal though, he’s usually indifferent, do you think there’s a reason why he’s a bit more fierce today? Usually I attend his meetings without feeling like I’d rather escape halfway through."
"Who cares what happened, in the end we’re the one’s bearing the brunt of it. I’m getting out of here man, I’ll be needing a drink after this."
Andrew didn’t hear whatever discussion the employees had after he left, all he was focused on was reaching his office after his secretary informed him that she’d summoned the people he asked for.
Cynthia didn’t know why the boss had suddenly asked her to call for these people into his office. All she’d done was talk to Janet about how irritated she felt about something she witnessed yesterday when coming in to work.
At the entrance she witnessed some guys making some really disgusting comments about the girl that shot their ad.
It was so irritating to witness how some men disregard a woman’s respect, the literally didn’t seem to care that she could hear them. They went on to comment on her body, her boobs and disgusting things they would do to her.
Cynthia had just been discussing how she’d badly wanted to throw her shoes at their heads when the boss came out of his office. When he called her in, Cynthia had been so scared, she had thought he was upset because a friend came to visit her during work hours.
Janet worked in marketing so occasionally they would see each other and Janet had decided to come by for a quick chat when he caught them talking.
Cynthia had been prepared to swear never to do it again when the words he said had her taken aback.
"Bring them to me." Were the only words he said, his eyes flashing with fury.
"What sir?"
"The men you were talking about, bring them all to me."
Cynthia still didn’t understand until a second later.
Was he talking about the men she was telling Janet about?
What did he want with them?
Cynthia wanted to tell him that she didn’t know who they were, they could probably be from different departments in the company and she didn’t know where to find them because they were just randomly standing around the entrance, but the rage in his eyes made her keep the words to herself.
"Yes sir." She would find them if she had to scour the entire company or turn every department upside down, good thing she could at least recognize them if she saw them.
If doing that tedious task of finding each one of the men would keep her boss’s anger off her, then she would do it.
Cynthia had asked Janet for help, along with some of the security guards using the company’s CCTV cameras. It had made the job easier and she found them, telling them each that director Sterling wanted to have a word with them in his office then took them there.
Now that the task was done, Cynthia finally had the chance to actually start to wonder why he’d made her do all that in the first place.
Had he been listening to her conversation with Janet?
If so, why did he look absolutely infuriated after?
One thing was clear, those men were definitely in trouble.
