Chapter 538: Chapter 538: Selin

Selena gritted her teeth, her jaw aching from the force.

"If that’s true, then stay away from her. Who knows when she might change her mind and start to flirt with you?"

As she spoke, she shot another sharp glance at the black-haired woman.

Selin only chuckled, watching her as though amused by a younger sister throwing a childish tantrum. Yet only Selena herself knew the truth buried beneath that calm expression.

’From the very beginning... she was never some innocent, angelic sister.’

She was exactly the kind of sister who could grow jealous of her own blood.

Selin had always been one of those people.

The reason Selin approached Mia so often was simple. Selena had liked Mia first.

She used to flaunt how Mia had a crush on her, how anything she wanted could be hers with ease, and she made sure Selena knew it.

That effortless dominance had planted insecurity like poison, slowly spreading through Selena’s heart.

From childhood to their teenage years, Selena had watched Selin snatch away things without resistance, attention, affection, opportunities.

That was why Selena had sworn to build a world of her own, a place where Selin could never take what belonged to her again.

But now that Selin had suddenly reappeared, fear crept back in, cold and unwelcome.

Meanwhile, Mia paid no attention to Selena’s turmoil at all. She was laughing, glowing, completely immersed in what she believed was a joyful moment.

With both Selenas present, she assumed it was some strange reunion between friends and failed to notice the tension tightening the air.

Aurora, however, noticed everything.

She remained silent, observing, concern flickering in her eyes.

’Is this really Selena’s insecurity... or is Mia simply too careless?’ Aurora wondered. ’This kind of thoughtlessness will destroy them one day.’

She saw Selin inch closer to Mia, her gestures becoming overly familiar, almost possessive. By now, Selena’s face had darkened, her fists trembling as if she stood on the verge of breaking apart.

Aurora narrowed her eyes in displeasure.

It was one thing for Selin to tease, but did she really think she could create trouble here?

Even if Aurora did not consider Selena her closest friend, she still cared for her.

She could not bear watching someone she knew look so humiliated and jealous at the same time.

Aurora stepped forward.

In the next instant, she placed a hand near Selin’s waist and pulled Selin gently toward herself, letting out a soft chuckle.

"How strange. You two look almost identical, yet your behavior couldn’t be more different."

Mia and Selena immediately turned toward Aurora, startled by her sudden involvement.

Aurora met Selin’s gaze, noticing the curiosity there, and smiled faintly.

"What happened? Were you charmed?"

Selin shook her head.

"Not at all. If I were to be charmed by anyone, it would definitely be Mia."

She even laughed after saying it.

Mia laughed as well, raising her glass.

"What a joke. If that were true, you should’ve told me long ago. I’m already booked."

Selin chuckled lazily.

"You’re just engaged, not married. I still have a chance."

"It’s a joke," Mia replied, laughing again.

But Selena felt as if the ground beneath her feet had been ripped away.

Aurora saw that expression and finally reached her limit.

’Mia is either completely clueless... or far too drunk.’

Either way, this needed to stop before real damage was done.

Aurora stepped away from Selin and walked directly toward Selena. She extended her hand, calm and steady.

"Wanna dance?"

Both Selin and Mia looked at her in surprise, especially Mia.

Until now, she had assumed Aurora disliked Selena. Seeing Aurora act so gentlemanly toward her made Mia purse her lips.

’She must be joking... right?’

But her eyes widened when Selena placed her hand into Aurora’s without hesitation and nodded.

Mia frowned as an unexpected wave of jealousy surged through her chest.

She knew Aurora was not someone who would steal her partner, yet the scene in front of her felt unbearably wrong.

Selin tilted her head, watching with an intrigued smile.

"Interesting. I want to dance too if Mia wants to."

But Mia had already stopped listening.

All she could see was Aurora leading Selena away.

The music swelled, soft and intimate, as the two began to dance beneath the golden lights.

Their movements were slow, composed, almost natural, as if they had practiced together countless times.

Mia stood there, rooted to the spot.

Her hands curled into fists.

Tears welled up despite her knowing she was overreacting, despite knowing she had no right to feel this way.

Yet she hated the sight.

She hated it far more than she wanted to admit.

Meanwhile, Aurora looked at Selena, who kept her gaze lowered to the floor as if the polished surface might swallow her whole.

The music from the ballroom drifted faintly into the quieter corner where they stood, mixed with the distant scent of champagne and roses. Aurora let out a soft chuckle.

"I thought you were strong," she murmured. "But right now, you look like someone who prefers hiding rather than confronting the problem."

Selena shook her head slowly, strands of blue hair falling across her face.

"You wouldn’t understand," she replied, her voice unsteady.

"I got Mia after so many offerings... so many struggles. And now that she’s getting closer to Selin.... someone who has taken so many things from me, someone who once almost had Mia too, it makes me feel..."

She paused, searching for words that refused to come. "I can’t explain it. I’m scared. I feel like I’m going to lose everything."

Aurora fell silent for a moment. Then she tightened her grip around Selena’s hand.

Selena was startled and finally looked up, meeting Aurora’s eyes.

Aurora smiled faintly.

"You should be more confident," she said.

"At the very least, you have my backing. Mia is my best friend, yes, but I will make sure she doesn’t go astray. And I will make sure you and Mia live well together."

There was something unsettlingly firm in Aurora’s tone, a confidence that felt almost dangerous. Selena found herself unable to look away.

’So this... is why Mia once had a crush on her.’

Just as that thought surfaced, Aurora added lightly, "You don’t need to worry anymore. Your problem is already being handled."

Selena frowned. "What problem?"

"The insecurity," Aurora replied with a small smile. "Mia will understand soon enough."

Selena’s confusion deepened, but before she could ask another question, Aurora tilted her chin forward.

"Look straight ahead. Your bride is marching toward us like a soldier."

Selena instinctively looked up.

Mia was indeed walking toward them, her expression unusually rigid. The soft lights reflected in her eyes, but there was no warmth in them.

In the next second, Mia grabbed Selena’s hand tightly.

The grip was so strong Selena almost winced.

"I need to borrow her for a few minutes," Mia said in a voice that was calm... too calm.

Aurora immediately stepped aside and nodded. "Of course."

Then she leaned and whispered something in Selena’s ears, before moving away.

She watched them walk away, their figures disappearing into a hallway.

Then Aurora turned.

Selin, who had been about to follow, stopped when Aurora blocked her path.

Selin smiled, though her eyes were sharp. "Aren’t you interfering where you shouldn’t?"

Aurora nodded casually. "I was about to say the same thing to you."

Selene’s eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"

Aurora chuckled softly.

"Exactly what you think I mean. It’s time for you to leave, and not come back. If I ever see you interfering in Selena’s life again, or trying to take anything from her, understand this... the consequences will not be as simple as jail. The entire country will start to detest you."

Selin stared at her, disbelief flashing across her face. "What are you talking about?"

Aurora stepped closer, her voice dropping to a whisper near Selin’s ear.

"Tell me," she murmured, "if the world were to learn that the elegant daughter associated with the Davis family enjoys drugs... and keeps a private dungeon beneath her villa with women hidden inside... would people still look at her with admiration?"

Selene’s eyes widened in shock.

She stumbled back slightly, staring at Aurora. "Who... are you?"

Her heart pounded violently, fear rising like ice water in her veins.

Aurora smiled.

"When I helped with the invitations and reviewed your background, I became curious," she said.

"So I investigated further. You are quite an interesting woman, ambitious, calculating, always aware of what you want. You even ensured there were no visible flaws. The women in that basement? All consensual arrangements are carefully documented. You covered every track."

Aurora’s gaze hardened.

"But you’re still afraid of that side of you being exposed. Because you know exactly how your parents would react."

Selin’s silence confirmed everything.

Aurora continued,

"Your hostility toward Selena was never about jealousy. It was your habit of making everyone feel beneath you. You believed you could take whatever you wanted."

She leaned slightly closer.
