Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Turns Out They're All Noobs

Early morning on the second day.

He, a player in the Deceit World, the mastermind behind impregnating the Evil God, the man who profaned Destiny Power, the great Yang Qizhou, was heading out to work.

There was really no other choice.

Although Yang Qizhou had made decent progress in the Deceit World, aside from the Dream Realm Mother Goddess Flower Seed that was placed on the Evil Altar to ensnare the Dream Hidden King, he still had a few items: Bloodstained Rags, Kan Rui's Wizard Ring, and the Ancient God Fire Lamp. Together, they gave him some strange capabilities.

But his body was still a mortal shell, after all. He needed to eat, pay for internet, and sip Cola. Not to mention, next month's rent still had no answer.

If he didn't find some work soon,

he might starve to death before even clearing the Deceit World game or becoming a god who wields ultimate authority.

"If this were a novel, I'd definitely be the most pitiful protagonist."

The job Yang Qizhou found was sorting at a courier hub, working ten hours a day, earning roughly three hundred yuan daily. Though tiring, the income was enough to keep him fed.

By the time he clocked out, it was already nine in the evening.

The night had fully descended by then, deep and quiet. Moonlight lingered, stars hung inverted in the abyssal sky, twinkling brightly. Yang Qizhou gazed at the view and suddenly found himself steeped in reflection.

He thought about the old earth,

a world with an endless wilderness teeming with terrors. The sun could not be gazed upon directly, the night could not linger long, dreams held horrors, the unknown and mystique coexisted, fear and twists thrived together—Old Gods' believers, Ancient Dominators, twisted lifeforms.

By comparison,

being able to directly face the sun, freely roam the night—his own world was so beautiful.

"There's a joint military drill happening ahead. This street is temporarily under control. Please take alternative routes. Thank you for your cooperation."

On his way home, Yang Qizhou saw the street sectioned off with police tape, flashing sirens, and officers specially assigned for enforcement. The scene was quite dramatic.

Organizing large-scale drills downtown—how much trouble would this cause for the hardworking citizens?

No choice but to take a detour.

Shit.

Though grumbling inwardly, Yang Qizhou, unwilling to stir trouble, decided to loop around and head back.

Amid the blue and red lights, a familiar silhouette flickered briefly among the crowd—there it was, the faint scar on the right side of his face came into view, halting Yang Qizhou in his tracks.

It was him.

What was this man doing here?

Yang Qizhou narrowed his eyes. Less than twenty-four hours had passed. That shallow scar made it too easy to identify—the man was the same one who had knocked on his door late last night claiming to be a neighborhood agent conducting a populace census.

But unlike last night... this time he was dressed casually, commanding notable authority within the containment zone—officers raised the tape for his passage and saluted him as he moved.

A mere community worker wouldn't have such high rank.

"Entering a restricted area?"

"Looks like my suspicions were correct. The government is monitoring the entire internet, flagging the keyword 'Deceit World.' Anyone who searches it gets exposed to their surveillance, triggering specialists to investigate in person."

"If that hypothesis holds true, this street's temporary lockdown and supposed drill aren't real. Chances are high it's related to players of the Deceit World."

Should I go take a look?

Yang Qizhou felt tempted, curiosity bubbling about the events unfolding within.

He wasn't worried about being recognized by the man. After rewinding to the new Destiny thread, they'd never crossed paths at all.

Having made up his mind, Yang Qizhou ducked into a secluded corner and slid a bronze ring onto his index finger. Tonight's moon was full, its hazy silver glow showered upon him.

This wasn't the old earth, after all—no need to heed the detestable traits inherent to Wizards.

And with that, he infiltrated the restricted zone.

...

...

It had to be said—the items from the Deceit World were indeed powerful. Kan Rui's Wizard Ring, despite being classified as a common-grade artifact, granted night vision and dramatically enhanced physical abilities upon activation.

Yang Qizhou relied on this newfound strength to effortlessly slip past the police tape, tailing the man with the shallow scar on his right cheek.

The man wasn't aimlessly wandering.

Rather, he deliberately arrived at the entrance of a residential complex.

Four individuals had already gathered there—three men and one woman—all clearly acquainted. Seeing the man approach, they greeted him with raised hands.

Hiding in a dark corner, Yang Qizhou stayed as silent as possible to avoid exposing himself, straining his ears to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"This game is complete garbage. Three revival chances, but I couldn't even last ten minutes. The plot didn't progress at all before I burned through my deaths."

"You're lucky. At least you scored a 'common-grade' item. I've been playing six or seven days now and haven't gotten a single thing."

"Six or seven days? That's nothing! I've been playing for over ten days, and aside from the ability I received during 'Destiny's Blessing,' I haven't even glimpsed a single artifact. And the ways I've died—utterly bizarre! My most ridiculous death happened just because I stepped forward with my left foot first."

"What the hell, DJ! We may have flashy titles, but when it comes down to it, we're hardly better than ordinary folks."

Yang Qizhou was surprised.

From what these people were saying, they'd been involved with the Deceit World game for some time, yet let alone grand rewards, most of them hadn't even obtained 'common-grade' items. Their only supernatural abilities came from the initial talents granted during 'Destiny's Blessing.'

In other words... the actual power of the government wasn't as formidable as Yang Qizhou had imagined.
