Now everything was getting out of hand. The royal wives and children were confused. They all had witnessed Zion murder the king in front of everyone without any remorse. He was just talking to him like a friend a few hours before, so this came as a surprise to everyone.
Ruby was the first one to speak. "Zion, may I ask why you wish for us to fight? What’s your motive?"
"Good question. You see, your father was after what’s mine, and I didn’t like that. I could see the greed and ambition in his eyes. I mean, I don’t blame him. I have a super mega awesome weapon floating in the sky that can blow up an entire kingdom. Of course, anyone would want to get their hands on it." Zion put away his sword and sat back down.
Everyone gulped after hearing his words. A super weapon that could destroy an entire kingdom didn’t exactly sit well with people.
"Super weapon? I don’t recall you having a super weapon." Amber butted in. She was known for her intelligence, and she researched Zion extensively. She knew he had some type of power that could rival dragons, but not a weapon. She assumed it was a spell.
"Oh, but you do. Remember the Larson Estate? That damage was caused by my weapon. Also, the destruction of the arena during the tournament, when that demon tried to kill everyone, was also the weapon."
Now everything was becoming clear to everyone. Beads of sweat raced down their faces as they remembered that catastrophic beam of light that completely vaporized the Larson estate as well as the arena. The damage caused by the laser was still not fixed even til this day.
"S-So, what are you proposing?" Beryl asked, quivering in his boots.
"I was tired of Zircon sending me letters asking about my weapon, proposing that we work together and unify Midgard. You know, he even wanted to marry one of you girls off to me, ha. Anyway, my proposal is simple. Whoever wins this succession war, I’ll fully support them in their reign, and the Holy City of Light will be their ally until the world ends. However, the Church of Arion has to go, and Astir will become a kingdom that worships Luminera instead."
"And if we don’t want to?" Ruby asked
"Boom." Zion used his hands to mimic an explosion, which only made everyone even more nervous.
Ruby and Amber then looked at each other, already knowing which option they would choose. There was no way they wouldn’t agree to having such power on their side. Their reign wouldn’t be challenged, no matter what, and that was something any ruler would want.
"That’s not fair! You’re basically telling me to go and die!" Beryl yelled.
"Duh." Zion rolled his eyes. "Do you think I’d work with a competitor? No thanks. Anyway, you kids have fun. I’m going back home."
And with that, Zion and his family left. Crystal also left, but not with Zion, so they wouldn’t raise any suspicion, not that it would matter.
This left the three factions face to face with one another, not knowing who would make the first move.
"Gather your forces and prepare for war. In one weeks time, we’ll decide who sits on that throne." Ruby turned her back on her siblings and walked out of the Castle with her people following behind her.
Amber did the same and teleported out of the castle after a large magic circle encompassed her and her people.
Angered, Beryl and the Pope left for the church to plan for their next move.
While all this was going on, a messenger for Lapis’s faction rushed to his side after witnessing the entire event. He quickly informed him of everything that transpired in his absence and asked what they would do.
Lapis leaned forward, straining his arm slightly. "Eghh, prepare our forces as well, we’ll strike when they’re least expecting it. As for Zion’s offer, fuck that. I’ll kill him myself!"

The kingdom was in chaos after two months had passed. A curfew was forced, the kingdom was in lockdown, and the four factions were openly hostile to one another. With no king, the citizens panicked and wondered what would happen to them once one of the Princes or Princesses takes the throne.
Some wished for lower taxes, others wished to have better jobs or education. But there were a few that didn’t care about either and decided to use this opportunity to cause chaos, and gangs formed overnight.
Throughout all of this, Crystal, under Zion’s orders, was trying her best to keep the peace and calm the citizens. She, alongside her maternal family, used their resources and connections to give aid and help out in any way they could.
She already had a good image to the public, but now, during the kingdom’s time of crisis, everyone loved her even more, which would make it easier for everyone to accept her as their Queen.
"Are you enjoying this?" Aurora asked Zion as they lay in bed together naked after a heated session.
"The war? Meh, it’s not as fun as I thought it would be. But hey, Crystal is doing her part, which is what matters most."
"What’s next, then? Will we just wait until the war is over?"
"Everything will be ending soon. They can’t afford to fight for a long period of time because they destabilize the kingdom more than it already is; the other two kingdoms of Midgard will take that chance and try to merge Astir with their land. They can’t afford a national war, especially one on two fronts."
"I see." She laid her head on Zion’s chest, snuggling up with him even more.
"Besides, even if they drag this war out, I’ll force it to end. Letting the weeds kill each other off is a lot easier than doing it yourself. And once the war is over, it won’t be difficult to pick the rest off who survived. Everything will work out perfectly fine."
