Chapter 146: Chapter 146

Zion sighed. "Alright, Plan C."

His aura ignited—golden and wild. The Sword of Forms snapped into twin blades, his movement sharpening into something much more primal. He appeared in front of her with a flash step, his aura crackling.

*Clang*

She blocked—but barely.

His attacks came faster, heavier, bolstered by aura. He switched weapons mid-combo—lance to daggers to flail—pressing her on all sides.

But she adjusted again, biting down, her infernal energy swelling in retaliation.

Zion skidded back, catching his breath. "Persistent," he muttered. "Fine. Plan D."

He raised his hand. A radiant hum filled the air.

Holy power surged from his core, flooding his limbs, his sword now glowing with holy light.

The assassin faltered. Her infernal energy flickered, unstable against the holy radiance. It threw the two off, both of them confused on why infernal energy was losing to holy power, but Zion didn’t care and only attacked with more vigor.

He was in her face again. Strike—parried. Counter—dodged. Sweep—blocked. But each exchange now left her slower, more strained. Holy power scorched her infernal constructs, and her movements lost their polish.

She tried to adapt—again. But Zion had already switched back to tech—lasers mid-swing, grenades detonating under her feet, then runes—chains locking her limbs for a blink, then aura—bursting speed, a crushing uppercut to her jaw.

He never let her settle.

Overwhelmed, she staggered back, barely holding herself up.

Zion appeared behind her, slammed her down, and planted his boot on her neck.

Breathing hard but grinning, he looked down at her.

"Am I so predictable now?" He asked, his face smug and full of pride for himself.

"Ugh! Get off of me!" She shouted, her voice strained.

"Give me the sapling." He demanded, putting more pressure on her neck

"Akkk! As if! I’d rather die!"

Zion paused. "Then wouldn’t I get the sapling regardless?"

"Oh shit! I’ll never give it to you!" She corrected herself.

"Okay, now it sounds like you aren’t taking this seriously."

"Hahaha, because I’m not stupid. Do you seriously think I came alone?" She shouted, calling out to her companions. Since her battle with Zion had taken them outside, she knew people on her side were waiting for her.

Then it happened, a strike from behind that pierced Zion through the chest. A blow filed by demonic energy that would eat him alive from the inside. At least, that’s what she was expecting to happen.

"Oh, you mean those extras?" Zion asked, smirking as hundreds of demonic elves fell from the sky, all of them dead, some being killed worse than others. Floating in the sky and perched on top of the trees were members of Heaven’s Bane decked out in nano-tech armor. "I took care of them a long time ago."

"Now," He blasted her with a full-power photon energy beam amped by holy power and mana. While it didn’t kill her, she did suffer severe injuries. "Hand. Over. The. Sapling."

The assassin screamed in pain as she felt her body burn. She tried to defend herself from the attack, but everything happened too fast, so she wasn’t able to defend herself in time. Still, she didn’t die, clinging to life.

An infernal blade formed in her hand, and she attempted to cut off Zion’s leg and escape. But before the blade even fully materialized, Zion had already sliced off her arm.

"Arghhhhhhh!!!!!!"

"You see, this is more up my alley. Dominating my opponents, making them suffer, watching as they try and escape, only for them to face the reality of the situation."

"Okay, okay! I’ll give it to you!" She yelled, clenching her teeth from the intense pain.

"Good choice. And don’t worry, if you try anything funny, I’ll just kill you." He smiled

"Crazy bastard." She muttered under her breath, retrieving the sapling from her subspace. But the moment she did, a wicked grin appeared on her face.

"Don’t you dare!" Zion aimed to cut off her other arm, but it was too late. By the time his sword connected, the assassin pumped all of her infernal energy into the sapling, completely destroying it.

The sapling burst into thousands of small pieces, each of them glowing a brilliant red hue. They flew toward the world tree, assimilating themselves with it, returning to where it originally came from, but that only made things worse.

The tree wailed, trembled, and caused severe earthquakes. Its vines thrashed, mana went wild, roots uprooting themselves, destroying anything in its path, and it pollinated. But just any pollen, pollen infested with infernal energy.

Everwhere in Alfheim, the infernal energy-infested pollen rained down from the sky, contaminating anything it touched. Nature slowly decayed, and people collapsed to their knees, coughing violently while puking blood.

"What did you do?!" Zion asked, putting his sword to her throat. "WHAT DID YOU DO?!"

"Hahaha! If a sapling dies, it returns to the world tree so it can be created again. But do you know what would happen if the sapling were infected with infernal energy? Take a guess." She shouted, loving the disgusted look that took over Zion’s expression.

Zion was about to lose his cool, but he took a deep breath, calming himself. "Thank you." He said, smiling at the woman.

"For what?!" She snarled

"For pissing me off." He stomped on her head, completely crushing it into a pool of blood and brains.

Zion flew up into the air until he reached the same height level as the world tree. "Heaven’s Bane, to me!"

Hundreds of Elves flew up into the sky, all gathering around Zion as he commended them.

"Master!" They said in unison.

"Channel your power into me. If we don’t save this stupid fucking tree, we’re all fucked." Clasping his hands, holy power cracked uncontrollably. Then, he extended his arms from side to side, and a massive divine magic circle appeared over the tree.

"Now!"

Every member of the Alfheim branch of Heaven’s Bane channeled their holy power into Zion.

The energy he felt was insane. It was as if he were high on power. He could feel his power skyrocket, forcing him past his limits as his body became a vessel for the holy power, but still, it wasn’t enough.

"LUMINERA!"

Then, a radiant divine light tore through the clouds, bombarding Zion with so much power that his body almost collapsed. His nose bled, he coughed up blood, but he endured.

"Oh, light of Luminera, please cast your veil upon thy withered tree. Bathe in thy light and cast out all even that’s contaminated thy divine vessel."

’Did you really have to say that fake ass cringe prayer?’ Luminera asked in his head.

"No, but I thought it was funny."

’You’re annoying.’

A golden veil draped over the tree, calming its rage and quelling the infernal energy that ran rampant in its roots. While the tree itself wasn’t cured ot fixed, the spread of infernal energy was halted and the tree was protected by Luminera’s light.
