Chapter 154: Evelyn

"Can we see the corpse now?"

Della asked.

"...Sure."

The maid then led the two of them down the stairs and into the dark basement.

She pulled down on a thin rope, and flicked the lightbulb on.

They saw a pale-looking corpse lying on a table. A knife on his chest. The blood was trickling down to the table.

"May you leave us, please?"

Della asked.

"Okay."

The maid ran upstairs, and closed the basement door.

They surrounded the table, and the camera was avoiding the sight of the dead body—it was a safety mechanism.

Gruesome sights like that could be a bannable offense in DeadPixel, and the sight could also traumatize younger viewers.

Thus, such a mechanism was built in.

"What do you think?"

Della asked as she looked at the knife.

"Not an ordinary knife, that is for sure. It’s not a kitchen knife. It does look like a hunting knife, doesn’t it? A little longer blade than a normal kind, but definitely a hunting knife."

Fang Raon said.

"Are we looking for a hunter then? I already got everyone’s professions, and as you can guess, they’re all aristocrats, running their own businesses.

"None of them come as people that are willing to get their hands dirty."

Della said.

"IT’S THE WIDOW!"

They both jumped in surprise and turned to the stairs—the wife of the deceased master was standing there.

Her eyes looked wide in horror. She looked thin, like a wind could knock her over. She looked crazy.

"What did you say? It’s the widow?"

Della asked.

With tears flowing down her eyes, the woman weakly approached the table and grabbed the hand of her husband.

"T-The widow did this... I know she did... This knife... I recognize it..."

The woman said.

[SourCrowd: Is she talking about the Wailing Widow?!]

[Rifter: Could it be that Della came across the Wailing Widow quest line?!]

[PistolPete: This is sick!]

"Tell us everything."

Fang Raon said.

"...Fifty years ago... I went with my husband and two of our friends on a hunting trip... The two friends were also newly wedded... And so were we...

"While hunting... we came across a cave... And inside the cave, there were so many treasures... So much... Gold...

"That much amount of gold... can make anyone go crazy... And then we started arguing about how we’re going to split it...

"My husband argued that it was him who found it first... So he should get a bigger cut... Our friends wanted an equal split...

"It escalated, and then... my husband took his hunting knife and killed Richard... His wife, Evelyn... Tried running, but my husband hunted her down... and killed her..."

The old woman was crying.

They all listened silently, and even the chat was listening, as the amount of typing had decreased significantly.

"...This hunting knife is what my husband used to kill them. And for the past two years... I have seen her... My dear friend Evelyn... Walking around the house, trying to find a way in.

"She keeps crying... I can hear her... the Wailing Widow... And last night, she finally got in!"

She collapsed on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

Fang Raon and Della looked at each other—the same shock in their faces—as they had actually found her.

The Wailing Widow!

"Ahhhhhhh!"

At that moment, they heard a scream from upstairs, and they ran out of the basement immediately.

In that moment, in the living room, they saw a ghostly figure hovering over the floor. It was the ghost of the Wailing Widow.

The family members of the master were in shock.

"All that he loves... Will today vanish..."

The Wailing Widow whispered.

"Evelyn!"

At that moment, Della shouted.

When she heard her name finally after a very long time, the Wailing Widow turned her head around—rage of a thousand souls in her eyes.

The camera pointed straight at her, and finally, the existence of the Wailing Widow was revealed to the all of gaming world.

[Viewers: 101,533]

"You don’t have to do this."

Della said.

"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH~!"

The Wailing Widow suddenly screamed, and her pale—eerily long fingers—reached out towards Della.

Cold mist poured out of her fingers, and the entire house froze over—the family members of the master, the maid, the corpse of the master, and the weeping old woman—all vanished.

They were back in the abandoned-looking house with shattered windows, peeled paint, and a creaking door hanging off its hinges.

[Secret Event—Murder Mystery Night—Successfully Cleared!]

They didn’t have time to celebrate that.

"Light Mirror—Reflection!"

Della summoned her golden-rimmed light mirror, pointed it towards the cold mist, and reflected the attack back to the ghost. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"Hissssssssss!"

The Wailing Widow hissed like a snake would and avoided the cold mist that was even dangerous to her.

She then shot her hands towards Della and suddenly grabbed her cheeks. She leaned close till their noses touched, and their eyes locked.

"...Ah..."

Della’s eyes shook, and in that moment, they glazed over, and the Wailing Widow vanished into thin air.

She collapsed on her knees.

"Della, are you alright?! Where the hell did it go?"

Fang Raon asked while holding his sword.

Then, he noticed that Della wasn’t speaking and looked at her, who was slowly standing back on her feet.

[TheFinalEnd: ...Della?]

[Gatherer: What is wrong with her?]

[FreakIsMe: Is everything alright, Della?]

The chat had also noticed that there was definitely something weird going on with her.

And at that moment, she turned around with a cold smile—her face had turned pale—and her eyes looked empty and lifeless.

"I am Evelyn..."

She grinned hideously.

"...Oh shit."

Fang Raon cleared his throat and saw as "Evelyn" pulled out the golden grimoire, and the situation grew even more dangerous.

[Hazz_Le: Run Fang Raon!]

[Borthwick: Get out of there as fast as you can!]

They didn’t need to tell that to him, as he was already running upstairs, and the light swords whizzed past his head.

Evelyn jumped all the way to the second floor and cast more of the light swords—but they flew right past him.

Fang Raon desperately Dodge Rolled out of the way.

However, he noticed one thing, and that was that Evelyn didn’t have Della’s level of control when it came to the magical spells.

It gave him some comfort, but in the end, Della’s magical strength alone was enough to wipe him off the face of the earth.
