The air was tense in the imperial palace, and everyone was looking at Shuu. He could feel their interest even when they tried their hardest to hide it.

But he remained quiet and unmoving for the sake of his child. Caelis did not deserve to face such troublesome things.

"Prince Kaiden, why don’t we ask Shuu what he wants? Since he is the one who will be staying in the palace, he should be the one who gets to decide where he wants to live."

Liam’s words turned the conversation toward Shuu once more, and he had to think about the best way to go forward.

At first glance, the best thing to do seemed to be following Prince Kaiden’s lead. But something in Shuu told him that he would be in much more danger if he did that.

Not only that, but the looks he was currently getting would become much worse.

Still, he was not sure if he could survive in this place if he chose not to take that offered hand. Lady Sera and her father already looked ready to kill him and Caelis.

’I don’t mind dying, but Caelis... I cannot leave him alone. I will need to find a way to keep him alive...’

Shuu felt conflicted, and just as he felt like he had no other choice but to agree, Prince Yunn and his wife walked inside.

They had heard what happened, and Lady Danielle immediately stepped forward.

"Since this is such a sensitive topic, how about I make a suggestion? Companion Shuu can stay with me for now in my wing. Most of the people there are my people, so I can make sure nothing happens to Shuu and the next heir, physically and mentally."

She offered, and all attention turned toward her.

"Lady Lortuz, you better be careful with your words. What if someone heard them and got the wrong idea here...? The heir has yet to be decided."

Count Diltz reminded her. He mainly spoke to solidify his grandson’s position.

But it only gave Lady Danielle even more fuel.

"Oh really? I almost forgot that Lady Sera has a child at all. After all, it is not like we have seen him or heard Lady Sera talk about the kid. If anything, I believe that Lady Sera is ignoring the kid."

With how much time Lady Sera spent chasing after Prince Kaiden and having tea parties, it was obvious how the kid was being raised.

But hearing the truth made Lady Sera even angrier.

"That is not it-! I am not neglecting my son. Stop trying to spread unnecessary lies. I am just a little busy-"

"Hmm, thank you for your advice, Lady Danielle, but I am afraid that it is time for us to leave. I must go and attend to my grandson now. I will see you around soon."

The man grabbed Sera’s hand and dragged her away. Sera looked startled and unhappy, but she followed her father out.

Her maids left as well, leaving only a handful of people around.

"Prince Kaiden, I-"

Shuu tried to speak, but Prince Kaiden gestured for him to enter his office. Shuu did as he was told and followed the crown prince inside.

Once in, Prince Kaiden took the child from Shuu’s arms and put him down. Then, he turned to look at Shuu. The door was locked behind Shuu, so no one else could enter the room.

He felt nervous, and the look in Prince Kaiden’s eyes did not help him.

"Prince Kaiden-"

He tried to speak, but Prince Kaiden’s touch stopped him. The crown prince rested his head on Shuu’s shoulder, and his arms wrapped around Shuu’s middle tightly.

"Finally, you are back. You sure took your time coming back to me. But I am so glad that you did come back."

Prince Kaiden sounded relieved, and his voice sounded soft. Shuu felt his insides tingle as he heard that voice in his ear. His hands came down to pat the prince on his back with a gentle motion.

"I am fine. You don’t have to worry about me at all. In fact, I am more worried about you. Why have you not married Lady Sera yet? It has been so long, and she had your child as well-"

"Don’t talk about other people when you are with me. And as for Sera’s child... it’s not mine. I can assure you that much."

Prince Kaiden confessed, and Shuu suddenly felt bad for him. It seemed that the crown prince was betrayed by someone he considered as ’precious.’

No wonder he was clinging to Shuu more than usual today. He likely wanted some comfort...

’Then again, neither of us are in a position to say that either. After all, Prince Kaiden did spend a night with me while he had Lady Sera waiting for him. And as for me... I also did not stop him...’

Shuu suddenly felt guilty toward Lady Sera once more. He had a sudden realization that most of this conflict was his fault, and Lady Sera was a victim as well.

But she was not completely innocent either, which made things much more complicated.

"Shuu, just stay and allow me to protect you... and the child. I will do what is needed, so come to me if you have any problem. Alright?"

Prince Kaiden asked, his determined eyes looking at Shuu with complete sincerity.

’The only ones innocent in all this are the children who are born without knowing anything. I do hope they grow up without much trouble and live a happy life.’

That was all that Shuu wanted for their kids. And right now, he wanted Prince Kaiden to let him go. He did not feel comfortable being held like this.

But he had no one else but himself to blame. He should not have fallen for Prince Kaiden like this when he knew that he had a fiancée whom he loved with all his heart.

Caelis chose that exact moment to start crying, and Shuu quickly pulled back from that hug to go attend to his son while Prince Kaiden continued to watch from the sidelines.
