Chapter 358: 358: A demand

By the time Mr. Albert arrived at the Emperor’s bedroom, he could hear him snapping at someone from outside.

He stood outside, waiting for the maids who were being yelled at to walk out. As soon as they left, he prepared to go in.

Mr. Albert walked into the room and caught sight of the Emperor sitting on his bed. The golden cup he had been drinking from was on the floor, the drink spilled.

He looked furious. He had been furious ever since they lost everything. And now Mr. Albert knew he would have to wait for his own verdict.

Without a word, he stood before the Emperor, who had his eyes on the ground, staring at the spilled wine. It was the first time he was meeting the Emperor ever since the Wizard of EL had destroyed the place and taken the princes away.

"What do you recommend doing now...?" the Emperor demanded.

Silence filled the room for a while. The guards standing at the sides didn’t dare speak. They all stared into thin air.

Mr. Albert said nothing.

"We lost it all to him," the Emperor said. "The bait and all... we lost it all to him!" He snapped now, his voice rising as he glared up at Mr. Albert, who shivered.

The Emperor stared at the guards, who soon left the room, leaving the two of them alone.

The Emperor stared at his palms; red lines ran through them. "I can already feel myself losing my mind. I can feel myself slipping away... it’s slowly eating me up. I can’t calm myself... I can’t control it..."

He hesitated before adding, "And because of you, I lost all means of getting what I needed to control it." He glared up at him. "He took everything, and you failed all the chances I gave you... Now what else do you have to say?"

Mr. Albert instantly went down on his knees, pressing his forehead hard against the floor. "I’m sorry... I’m sorry I failed all chances and made you lose the opportunity to get the ingredients you needed... I’m sorry..." His voice trembled.

But the Emperor scoffed. "Apologizing won’t do anything for me. It won’t bring me the Wizard of EL, and it won’t bring me a thousand souls for the experiment, will it?"

Mr. Albert said nothing. He simply shivered silently.

The Emperor continued, "I can’t lose myself. I can’t let myself slip away like this... I can’t..." He shook his head as he stared down at Mr. Albert. "And what was the agreement we made?"

Mr. Albert felt shivers run down his spine. This was what he was scared of. "That... that..."

The Emperor glared at him. "The deal was simple. Since you couldn’t bring me what I wanted," he said as he got to his feet, still staring down at Mr. Albert, "then I’ll have to take from you what I want... what can actually get the job done."

"And that’s your son," the Emperor said, both hands behind his back. "You’ll have to use him and make amends. That’s the deal, right?"

Mr. Albert shivered, his head still down. "Please... please forgive me. Take me if you wish... I can be the sacrifice... But please let go of my son... Please leave him out of this... please," he pleaded.

But the Emperor didn’t seem moved at all. "You’re of no use to me. So why would I take you? I need your son. And he’s the perfect soul that can help me. He always has been... ever since that day you made him the special breed and abandoned me to die... He always has been..."

He glared down at Mr. Albert, who looked up to meet his bitter, murderous glare.

"I’m sorry..." Tears slowly streamed from his eyes. "I’m sorry for what I did... I apologize for how I treated you two... I’m sorry... I apologize... so please... Please..." His voice trembled with guilt as he struggled through the words.

The Emperor stood there, staring down at him. He simply scoffed as he raised his chin. "You’re sorry? Is that some sort of joke? Do you think that could change anything now? Do you think that would miraculously fix the damage you put me through? You think it could fix the damage you put him through...?"

He hesitated. "No," he shook his head. "The damage has been done." He slowly walked up to him. "All I wanted was simple. Help. I needed help to get on with my revenge. It was as simple as that. But you ignored me..." He laughed hysterically. "And you made me into this..." His expression went cold. "And now you’re apologizing?"

Mr. Albert stared up at him with a shaky expression. This wasn’t the Kyle he knew years back. He could already tell that Kyle was dead. A monster had been born because of his decision years ago.

He regretted it. But there was nothing he could possibly do about it.

"You should save your breath," the Emperor said, turning to stare at the walls. "It’s useless now. Because all I need now is your son. So make preparations for me to make use of his spirit core. I don’t need anything else from you. Understood?"

Mr. Albert was quiet. He simply stared at him without saying anything.

And when he didn’t respond, the Emperor turned and stared in his direction. "What’s that? Are you refusing my instruction? You wish to protect your son? Like you did years ago?"

Mr. Albert said nothing as the Emperor smiled.

"You have no choice. You’ll have to do what I said, unless I make it happen by force. And you do not want me to do that, do you?" He smirked. "If you really want to protect your son as you claimed, then you shouldn’t have gotten other innocent lives involved, too. But since you’ve made the mistake of getting them all involved, now face the consequences."

The Emperor spoke in a cold tone.
