Chapter 338: 338: Strange Invitation

"The Feast of the Divine Dragon is taking place this weekend. And its core place of celebration is at the Capital city. You should be aware of this," Queen Elizabeth stared at her son, a serious expression lingering over her face.

Elvis could tell something was bothering her.

"Yes. I’m aware. Is there any problem?"

"Well, the invitation has arrived for us," Queen Elizabeth hesitated. "And the Emperor has made a specific request to have the Crown Prince attend the event in representation of the kingdom."

Elvis hesitated. "Well, we have a Queen, and that’s you. So why would he make that request?"

Queen Elizabeth smiled. "It’s pretty obvious that he doesn’t acknowledge me as a ruler because I’m a woman. But that isn’t my concern, even though that’s what he seems to want us to think..."

She hesitated as she said, "Even though he suggests having you there because he says you have the potential of a great king and all, I have a feeling that there’s more to it."

Elvis nodded. "There certainly is."

"So I don’t know if you should sit back on this one. I can tell him you’re gravely sick and can’t make it. And I can send someone else over or go myself. I just don’t want to risk it by sending you there," she explained.

But Elvis shook his head. "Even though it’s obvious that his request might be shady, I still wish to go."

She stared at him. "And why is that...?"

"Don’t worry about me. I can protect myself and won’t let his plan work. I promise. I’ll be fine," he smiled. "I won’t let you have issues with him. Because he can use this against you, accusing you of disrespecting his orders and doing as you will. I won’t let him use that against you."

She stared at him with a smile. "You’ve grown so much. I can’t believe I didn’t get to watch you grow up so closely."

"At least you get to watch me now," he said. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

She nodded. "Yes. But... you’ll have to be careful then. Extremely. I’ll send secret guards to protect you and everything."

"Sure. I’ll do so," he assured.

Queen Elizabeth sighed, still worried.

"And..." Elvis said, "I have a feeling he’ll be there. I have a strong feeling. I’ve searched almost everywhere... but haven’t been there to search. With the event and all... I have a feeling he’ll appear there..."

Queen Elizabeth stared at her son. "It’s been a while; you still haven’t seen him after all those searches?"

Elvis smiled. "He said he’ll be back soon. I guess not. But I’ll find him. Even if I have to go through every corner of the world. And I have a feeling I’ll find him here."

Queen Elizabeth smiled while staring at her son. "Then you should go and look for him. I’m sure you’ll find him."

She added, "My dear son is so in love. I’m glad that I got to see this side of you. Falling in love."

Elvis smiled as he looked up at his mother.

Queen Elizabeth sighed. "And my son-in-law is perfect as well. I approve of him. He’s amazing. I can’t wait to have him with me here as my son-in-law. So go and bring him home to me."

Elvis smiled. "Sure. I will."

Queen Elizabeth ate through her meal in silence as she said, "Are you sure about going there to the capital city? I mean... I’m still worried..."

"Don’t worry, Mum. I’ll be fine. Really," he assured her again.

Queen Elizabeth nodded. "Okay, then. I won’t speak on it again."

"I’ll go with him, so you don’t have to worry," Lysander said as the two of them turned.

They watched as Lysander walked up to the dining table, standing beside Elvis as he stared at Queen Elizabeth.

"I’ll go with him, so you don’t have to worry about him. I’ll protect my brother," Lysander smiled confidently.

Queen Elizabeth and Elvis stared at Lysander, surprised.

After all that had happened, Lysander had locked himself in his room most of the time. He didn’t speak with anyone and never even visited his mother.

He simply stayed there in his room, leaving Elvis and Queen Elizabeth worried. They tried visiting him a couple of times, but he rarely spoke when they visited. No matter how much they spoke to him.

They tried consoling the kid, but it didn’t work.

But now he was suddenly out, smiling and offering to follow Elvis to the Capital city. They didn’t understand what brought about the sudden change, which they found hard to believe at the moment.

"You... you can’t go there..." Queen Elizabeth tried to say.

"Because I’m still a kid?" Lysander asked with a smile. "I know that’s what you’re going to say. But don’t worry, I’m already turning 20 soon. I’m already an adult. So please let me get involved in adult matters, too. Don’t treat me like a kid."

They stared at him without saying anything.

Lysander added, "So I’m going to go with him and handle everything there while learning from him. That sounds exciting enough."

Queen Elizabeth didn’t say anything. She simply stared at the kid as Elvis slowly dropped his cutlery and got to his feet, smiling at his mother.

"I’m done eating," he said to Elizabeth as he turned to Lysander. "Why don’t we go have a chat? Okay? It’s been a while since we spoke."

Lysander smiled with a nod as he turned to leave. "Sure. Let’s go. I already have a lot of interesting things we could do in the capital," he said, leading the way. Elvis followed behind.

Queen Elizabeth sat there, watching them leave. She couldn’t help but sigh as they were soon out of sight.

She picked up the cup of tea before her and gently sipped it as she smiled. "Poor kid. I hope he regains his full smile soon. He’s too pure for this cruel world." She shook her head as she continued sipping the drink.
