Chapter 337: 337: Mission Failed

Marcus stared at him. "So back then at the water was your first time?"

Lenny hesitated, thinking through this new skill he had acquired. He found himself questioning the basis of its existence and why it happened. He started putting the dots together to find a pattern.

"Yes, it was. And I think it only happens when you’re around..." Lenny said. That was his theory. The two times he turned into a human were when he met Marcus—alone.

So he figured that might be a driving factor—but why?!

Marcus smiled as he stared at him. "So you mean... I’m not only the first person to see your human form... but you can only become human when you’re with me...?"

Lenny stared at him. "Why are you making it sound like that?"

Marcus smiled. "Because it sounds like fate. We’re destined to be around each other, then."

"You’re overthinking. There must be a logical reason for it," Lenny protested.

"Yes. As logical as us being past lovers fated to meet each other in every lifetime," he smiled.

"You’re just delusional," Lenny rolled his eyes. "Is this some fairytale to you or something?"

Marcus shrugged. "Maybe? You never know."

"Well, I don’t believe in all that," Lenny said.

"Well, you’ll have to find a better logic, then," Marcus said. "For now, I’ll just take that as my explanation. We’re fated."

He smiled as he stared into thin air. Marcus said, "Hey, why don’t you go out with me?"

Lenny stared at him, confused.

Marcus continued, "There’s a grand feast happening in the city this weekend. And we’ll be allowed to go out and celebrate it. There’ll be a lot to see at night. And celebrate. So why don’t we two go out together?" He stared at Lenny with a smile.

Lenny should be pissed or rolling his eyes. But as he met Marcus’s soft stares and smiles, he found his heart fluttering. He was melting in Marcus’s eyes, and he didn’t need any prophecy to tell him that.

"So? What do you say?" Marcus raised an eyebrow.

"No. I’m busy. I don’t think I can make it," Lenny immediately answered as he looked away. There was a little panic in his tone.

"Busy? With what?"

"None of your business," Lenny said. "Find someone else to go with. I can’t make it, and that’s final."

Marcus sighed. "If you won’t be coming, then I don’t see a reason to go. I won’t be going, either."

Lenny stared at him and looked away. "Suit yourself, then."

And so the two of them sat there, staring into thin air as an awkward silence lingered between them.

They stayed like that for minutes, and soon people began returning to the dorm. They were done with their practices and were heading off to take their baths.

Lenny knew his mission had failed. He would have to return, so he got to his feet. "I have to go. I’ll return the clothes," he simply said as he left.

Marcus sat there watching him leave. He couldn’t help but smile at the sight as he said, "Fated, indeed."

*****

Eden and Helen were waiting for Lenny under a tree that night. They had promised to meet up there when they were done.

But Eden and Helen had been waiting for a while now, and they got worried that something had happened.

They worried that Lenny had been caught or something.

But soon, they caught sight of a pretty, petite young man in an oversized nightgown making his way toward them.

Lenny soon stood before them, still in his human form. And the two of them stared at him from head to toe.

"And how may we help you, sir?" Eden asked.

"It’s me. Lenny," Lenny sighed.

"..."

It was his voice.

"Huh?" Eden blinked, shocked. Looking at him from head to toe. "What the hell happened to you??"

Helen was simply speechless.

Lenny briefly explained the strange situation he was still trying to understand. He explained how he changed first when Marcus was around and also this time.

And also explained how he failed to find anything because Marcus had arrived.

"So... You and Marcus are some fated witchy thing or something?" Eden raised an eyebrow, curious.

"No! There’s nothing going on between us!" Lenny snapped.

Eden nodded. "Oh, sure, sure. Don’t worry. But... how on earth is this happening? I didn’t know you could become human..." He took his time to admire him, running his hand through his hair.

"Hands off," Lenny snapped.

"Still so feisty, I see," Eden said. "It’s surely you."

"But you are pretty, I guess," Helen shrugged. "But how do you go back to your old self?"

"Well, about that, I..." Before Lenny finished speaking, he instantly puffed into pink dust and shrank back into a cat, the clothes left on the floor.

"Oh," Eden blinked, staring at the cat moving around the clothes on the ground. "I guess you haven’t figured that out yet."

"Obviously," Helen nodded.

They discussed their failed plans since they couldn’t find the letter in the classroom and didn’t have enough time to look for it in the dorm.

And at the end of their discussion, they decided to find another day to look for the letter in the dorm room.

And if they still couldn’t find it, they’d have to suspect Aron again.

THE KINGDOM OF VALENCREST.

Queen Elizabeth had called for her son, Elvis.

She summoned him to the dining room, and the two of them sat down before the table and a meal for a discussion.

Over the past days, the two of them had gotten closer. The strained relationship between mother and son was slowly getting better. The misunderstandings were cleared, and now they had taken their time to speak more and get to know each other better while fixing their past regrets and mistakes against each other.

They were now on speaking terms and were happy to have each other’s company.

But tonight, they weren’t simply having a casual chat; they were discussing official matters.
