Chapter 36: I Will Be Here For You

The young Arcane sat on the floor reading a letter left for him by his mother. In the letter, his mother wrote about her love for a man named Donald Stamford.

How much they loved each other, and how difficult it was for Wilona to pursue the love of her physics teacher. Until finally they became lovers, even though they had to keep their relationship a secret.

It was my graduation day, I had graduated from school and was celebrating with my boyfriend, Donald. Everything was going well until we crossed the line by made love that night.

And a month later, you came into my life, my son Arcane. I felt I couldn’t tell your father about you. I didn’t want his reputation to be ruined just because of the accident we had on graduation night.

That’s why I decided not to tell anyone about who your father is, not even my own parents. I chose to take you away and keep you because you are a blessing to me. You came from the man I loved so much. I couldn’t get rid of you in my life.

Forgive me for never telling you this before. But since you’ll probably read this after I’m gone, maybe you can know it now.

I may no longer be physically by your side. But my love and spirit will always be with you, my son.

I love you.

Your Mother, Wilona.

After reading the letter, young Arcane cried as he hugged the box.

Flashback End

Now it became clear why Arcane seemed so eager to become a teacher at that school. It turned out that the school was where his mother had once studied, and the teacher he loved had now become the principal.

He went there to find out more about his biological father and whether the man still remembered Wilona or not.

"He became the principal seven years ago. And since then, he has made a new rule that all male teachers working at the school must be married," said Arcane.

"Do you think he made that rule so that the same mistake he made in the past wouldn’t happen again? I mean, a relationship between a teacher and a student with a significant age gap does sound a bit taboo," Julian asked him in return.

To be honest, Arcane didn’t know the exact reason why his father made that rule. However, it was possible that it was one of the reasons why the rule was made, to prevent secret relationships between teachers and students.

Considering that only male teachers were subject to this rule, while female teachers were not.

The more Julian learned, the more he felt that Arcane’s life was incredibly complicated. He had even gone this far just to see his biological father up close and find out everything he could about the man.

"Then after you find out everything, are you going to tell him that you’re actually the son of his old lover?" Julian asked again.

Arcane admitted that he didn’t really know what he would do after that. Would he admit that he was the son of Wilona, Donald’s long time lover who had been kept hidden all this time?

But he also considered several things, remembering that the principal had been married when he took the position.

"There will definitely be an uproar if he finds out who I am. He could kick me out so that his family and reputation aren’t ruined. Especially since I have information that his current wife is the daughter of the school’s owner," Arcane explained.

"The daughter of the school owner?! No wonder he suddenly became the principal when he was previously just a physics teacher. I think I know the answer now."

They fell silent for a moment, as if lost in their own thoughts. Julian was still processing what Arcane had told him, as all of this was quite complicated and he felt concerned about what was happening.

"But now I’m not surprised why you say math is easy. Your father is a physics teacher, you both have a knack for using difficult formulas!" Julian said, trying to lighten the mood.

"Do you think I have a similar way of thinking?"

Julian hesitated to nod his head, worried that Arcane would be offended. However, he nodded and confirmed that he felt they had something in common.

"From the way you walk. Even when I look at his back, I feel like I’m looking at your back from a distance. You have the same intelligence as your father, maybe that’s what makes you similar?"

Arcane didn’t answer. But he knew that what Julian said was true. Moreover, they had the same eye color. Meanwhile, Arcane’s red hair was very similar to his mother’s. It was truly a combination of his parents.

"Now that you know everything, do you think I’m a strange person for doing all these things?" asked Arcane, opening his mouth again.

He thought Julian would agree with him, thinking he was strange for doing all these things just to get information about his own father. He could have just asked someone or looked for it somewhere else.

However, to his surprise, Julian felt that this was only natural.

"You want to know more about your father. Even though you haven’t said anything to him, you must be curious to know what he is like in his daily life. What exactly made your mother fall in love with a man who seems completely indifferent?" he said, answering Arcane’s previous question.

He knew the principal had a gentle and friendly nature. Even though they had only met a few times, Julian could see from the look in his eyes that he was a good man and not someone who would neglect his own family.

"Maybe if one day he finds out who you are, he won’t push you away. I’m not saying this because I’m defending him, but because the way he looks at someone with his eyes shows something different."

Arcane couldn’t say anything. He listened to what Julian said to him and tried to rethink his decision.

Would he one day reveal his identity, or would he just keep gathering the information he needed and then leave without saying anything?

"What’s certain is that for now, I’ll try to keep searching for what I want to hear. Now I’m not alone anymore because I have you with me," said Arcane as he kissed Julian’s forehead.

Julian chuckled happily but also felt amused because he wasn’t used to Arcane showing his affection, even kissing his forehead.

"Yes, you are no longer alone. I will be there for you!"
