Chapter 23: Seek For Enlightenment

Did Qin An ever receive gratitude towards the souls that he guided in the past? Yes, there were.

One of the hardest tasks of a grim reaper is before leading the dead souls to the hall to be judged, they have to ensure the soul's willingness to come with them. And to do that, they will give a chance to every soul to fulfill their wish. After granting it, only they can lead them to the hall.

Qin An met countless souls with different experiences and emotions inside them. Some humans die because of an accident. That's why they are too unwilling to leave and they are sometimes the hardest to convince to move forward because they couldn't accept death. Some humans also died because of murder and it led them to born anger and evilness inside their hearts. Once a soul harbors bad intentions towards humans, their merit will lessen, losing them the chances of having the possibilities of being reborn to a good life.

The kind of souls that are easy to deal with are humans who died because of their age and sickness. They are those people who are ready for their own deaths so they welcome it with ease and relief.

For Qin An, he went with those souls to fulfill their wishes and watched them cry and bid farewells. After that, they will always thank him for guiding them with care. However, Qin An didn't think he was. He was just doing his task and since they prioritized sending them with voluntary hearts, they will do what they want simply. So he didn't think it's too great.

But how he's facing this situation, he begins recalling the blurred faces of those endless souls smiling at him. He couldn't recall their faces anymore but he knew their eyes contained the same.

They are grateful to him.

Why? Was it because he let them leave the world with relief? Although it was a basic act of saying thank you for someone who did you a favor, Qin An didn't understand at that time why their eyes always contained happiness and gratefulness to him. For him, those emotions can never be understood and he sometimes felt a burden.

But as Pei Roujin said, if he really only wanted a salary and accommodations, was being a model an easier path for him to take? Then why did he insist on taking this?

Qin An was full of thoughts inside his mind but couldn't get the answer himself so he decided to walk out the practice room and wander around the three-story building.

The place where they occupied is a three story building. Although it seems to be few, the building itself was so wide that it accommodated enough facilities for trainees.

On the first floor, it's mostly full of facilities for doing physical therapy. There's a gym, basketball court, swimming area and a game area which actually had ancient games on Earth. After all, they cannot use a virtual cabin to log because the place blocks their mental power for accessing the outside world. On the second floor, there are endless rooms for practice. It was full of small and wide mirror rooms to ensure the space for training. They also had a room for instruments and a conference room. What was special was the three rooms on the second floor. It's specially for one person to talk about their thoughts in front of a camera or when they are called to say something. Qin An was familiar with that from his previous life.

The third room contains the bedrooms and other parts of an ordinary house. It has a kitchen, dining room, living rooms and a huge balcony. For every room, he heard that it accommodates three trainees sharing. It's not that the building cannot accommodate enough rooms for a single room but it is to let the trainees communicate even more and maybe create bonds. In addition, they also have a small clinic which has a medical cabin and a robot nurse so they don't have to worry about anything. They just have to practice obediently and do the tasks seriously.

Right now, Qin An saw some trainees gathering around the practice rooms but he didn't bother to go there. It's not that he despises communication but he knows it'll only lead to trouble. After all, he just came here with a surprise and it'll take time for them to accept his spot.

Qin An just wanders around and will subconsciously look at the doors. Until such time, he happened to pass by a single practice room and saw a figure dancing inside.

He couldn't help but stop on his tracks and look at its back. Why didn't this trainee with others? He rarely saw someone away from others today and some even deliberately passed by him. Qin An lived for too long to bother with their childish tricks to let him see that he'll be isolated so he didn't bother.

Qin An focuses his gaze towards the trainee inside the room again. He was a tall young man with a straight and slightly muscular physique. He exudes a temperament with extreme silence but with sharpness.

And Qin An often sees this temperament with someone who has experienced a life of struggle in poverty.

They are silent because they somehow knew the danger of higher class but they are also sharp, as a sign for their meticulousness while surviving.

The young man's back was full of sweat and so was his body. Since he was wearing a black shirt, his sweaty arms were in full display and they were already shining wet.

His dark hair was messed up and by the time that he stopped dancing, a drop of sweat fell from the tip of his hair. Sighing heavily and panting, the young man inside sits directly on the ground and drinks water from a bottle. He was still panting and seemed tired as if wanting to stop and take a rest.

Qin An also thought he'll stop to rest but he's wrong. The young man suddenly picked up something in his pocket and his sharp vision saw it's actually a picture.

Well, even with high technology, interstellar never let themselves forget the culture and lives in the past so they also merge things and ways from the usual in the past.

Anyway, Qin An saw five people in the portrait. He saw the young man inside with four other people that looked like him but were younger. And the youngest was also a girl that looked 4 years old only.

Qin An instantly knew that it's the young man's family members. The latter just stares at the picture for a few seconds before putting it back in his pocket. And without taking care of his sorry state, he stood up from the ground and started another round of dancing again.

Qin An stared at his tireless state but still going.

Qin An thought immediately about the figures inside the picture. Albeit he only sees the back of the young man inside, the way the latter's fingers softly caress the photo made it revealed that what was inside is very important to him.

Was that his family? Did that young man treat the people inside as his motivation to practice harder? Qin An thought about Pei Roujin's words again.

Is he the same as Pi Roujin? Having someone he felt connected, with which became a reason why he chose this path?
