Bizarre Realm-Chapter 135 - 4: Otherworld Eye Demon! (Part 2)
Along the way, Shawn hardly saw any green vegetation; the entire world was steeped in gloomy, ruinous tones, with signs of decay visible everywhere on the earth. The surviving plants were distorted into all sorts of bizarre shapes, some even ’coming to life’.
"Are they really humans?" Shawn’s expression was quite shocked; he had just enhanced his vision with Super Vision.
Dark Vision.
Shawn’s gaze pierced through the night and saw a distant campfire burning.
"They can farm, they can use fire?"
"Are there any other human survivors in the Bizarre Realm?" Shawn felt a hint of excitement.
But first, he cautiously cast the Invisibility Technique on himself. Then, under the cover of darkness, he slowly approached the target.
Shawn saw a group of ’people’.
He wasn’t sure if they could still be considered human because they had features close to humans, but not like modern humans. More like primitive people, resembling Neanderthals. They stood at about two meters tall, clad in filthy animal skins, with large skulls and very robust limbs. Their weapons were extremely primitive; near the campfire, there were heavy bone clubs at their feet. Their bodies were quite hairy, the skin a pallid gray-white, and their clouded eyes carried a hint of dim yellow, with a somewhat ’intelligent’ look.
But they appeared rather dazed, quite stupid.
"Degenerated half-humans?"
Shawn saw the food they were roasting over the campfire. He couldn’t tell what it was, but it had intact limbs, large feet, the head was chopped off, and not far from the campfire was a pile of skulls. The ground bore dark red sacrificial traces, as if remnants of a ritual.
This food was certainly some kind of human-like creature they were ravenously feasting upon around the fire.
A human offshoot.
Fully degenerated stone-blind barbarians; not far from there was their cave. Most of the degenerated barbarians were cave dwellers. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"Usually, these stone-blind barbarians are kept as food by monsters..."
Shawn carefully concealed himself.
Stone-blind barbarians are a self-isolated, mind-closed human subspecies, a product of blind stupidity. Their insensible minds have no awareness of the outside world and survive only by instincts and inherited human talents; their intelligence is even lower than that of primitive humans.
This was a small tribe of stone-blind barbarians, comprising only seven or eight families. If it had been a large tribe, Shawn would have had to turn around and flee immediately, because large tribes are kept by very powerful monsters.
They’re quite stupid, so with caution, Shawn didn’t need to worry about being discovered by them.
The stone-blind barbarians have very low intuition, belonging to twisted creations of self-closed minds. When encountering an irresistible danger, they would retreat into their caves, then, like cattle and sheep ready for slaughter, they hardly know how to resist. You could say they have been thoroughly domesticated by the Bizarre Realm.
Their strength is considerable, their physical constitution stronger than that of primitive people, with some possessing inherent Barbarian talent.
To some monsters who fancy eating human brains, stone-blind barbarians are kept as livestock slaves. Given a relatively safe habitat, they would slowly reproduce on their own.
Occasional losses weren’t a problem since the Evil Objects wouldn’t care if a few sheep from their herd got eaten by wild wolves.
"There’s another tough cookie here!"
Small groups of stone-blind barbarians are often kept by monsters with mind abilities, easily being controlled—a Mind Domination turns them instantly into obedient slaves. Monsters keeping stone-blind barbarians only need to periodically eliminate the awakened ones with Barbarian talent; without a strong leader, they’re scattered like sand.
Moreover, they are naturally illiterate, their brains rejecting any arcane Knowledge. It’s safe to say their brains have completely degenerated.
"Otherworldly Creature? Or Evil Presence?"
Shawn’s figure slipped into the shadows. After the stone-blind barbarians finished eating the food from the fire, they started fighting over it. The strongest stone-blind barbarian ate the last bit of food, then they extinguished the campfire and, amidst chaotic shouting, swarmed into the cave.
They knew to hide at night; a long-term cave-dwelling lifestyle had made them degenerate more into humanoid monsters.
From the sky came a strange screeching sound.
Shawn quickly found a concealed spot to hide, muttering to himself, "If only I had a Stealth or Invisibility Cloak."
Abyss City sold a lot of Curios, and Shawn had seen a Stealth Cloak there, but unfortunately, Aemon didn’t give him the time to prepare.
This was an attempt to put him in peril.
Whoosh!
Something seemed to pass through the sky; having the Super Vision ability, Shawn’s sight was akin to a Ranger’s, able to see through all darkness. He saw head-like silhouettes flying across the night sky, somewhat resembling human heads. There were more than a dozen of them, with ears turning into leathery wings, flying in groups across this sky.
The monsters were here!
The Spirit Realm had started to overlap with the Real Plane, and some Evil Presences, Otherworldly Creatures, and wandering spirits residing on other planes had entered the Bizarre Realm.
——Flying Head Monster [Otherworldly Creature] [Evil Presence].
These Flying Head Monsters were slightly larger than human heads, their jagged teeth remarkably conspicuous. Their horrifying screeching could evoke fear in nearby beings, the effect similar to a Wizard’s Frightening Technique. Their bites were venomous and could turn other creatures into their kind.
