Chapter 100: Chapter 30: Divine Chosen - Shawn!

The weather is changing!

When Shawn stepped out of this hidden temple, the sky outside was already a gray haze, with dark clouds seeming to brew a terrifying storm.

"Investigator Sean, an umbrella."

Next to him, Bishop Rod graciously handed a black umbrella to Shawn, astonishing the young priest not far away. Rod’s status in Dorne City was quite special, and it was rare to see him show such enthusiasm towards others.

Shawn reached out to take the umbrella and said, "Thank you."

Rumble! 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

A bolt of lightning streaked across the sky.

When Shawn looked up at the sky, he saw a crack illuminated by the lightning, appearing like an arched mark, resembling a pair of strange wings. The rolling dark clouds soon obscured everything, and when the lightning flashed again, what he had seen seemed like an illusion.

Crackling!

A sudden downpour of bean-sized raindrops fell, and Shawn walked out of the Divine Hall District with his umbrella. Before he reached the tram station on the road nearby, amidst the rumbling thunder, a leap of electric arcs appeared at the intersection ahead, followed by a muffled bang, as smoke suddenly billowed from a moving tram.

Dorne City had always built trams; the sudden storm not only disabled the tram but also snapped the wires at the intersection amid the crackling muffled sounds.

"This weather is rather abnormal." Shawn frowned, looking at the sky.

He had been in Dorne for so long, and it was the first time he saw such dark, tumultuous clouds, resembling the typhoon days from his previous life, even causing the roadside poles to tilt.

Pedestrians around him were looking for places to escape the rain.

The current time was five-thirty in the afternoon, right when people were commuting home. Because of the sudden storm, many had to find a place to temporarily shelter from the rain. Dense raindrops were like a reversed river, instantly obscuring the vision, making it hard to see even ten meters away.

Fortunately, Dorne City’s sewer system was particularly spacious and directly connected to the river, linking to the sea outlet; otherwise, such a large storm would quickly cause flooding.

Sizzle.

During the storm, the street lamps next to the road flickered and then started to go out one after the other.

"A power outage?"

Shawn frowned as he looked into the distance, where the lights in the darkness were going out bit by bit. It was his first time encountering a power outage in Dorne City. Fortunately, in this era, many households kept candles handy. About a few minutes later, faint candlelight began to appear in the window frames of the opposite residential building.

Half an hour later.

Shawn braved the rain to return to the Night Watch Headquarters. As soon as he arrived, he headed straight for the entrance to the underground corridor.

"I want to see the Tomb Guardian."

Guarding the door was a retired High Tier Night Watcher, looking fifty or sixty years old, with a weathered face, and arms as dry as a declining elder, lacking any vitality. Night Watchers aged quickly due to the frequent use of Holy Relics and Sealed Objects, and if they couldn’t break through as Legendary warriors, their lifespan was about the same as ordinary people.

Among the Twelve Mythical Paths, only Transcendents on the Path of Nature had the longest lifespan.

Theoretically, a Great Druid could live for sixteen hundred years.

The aging Night Watcher gazed at Shawn in front of him and nodded slightly, carrying a lantern into the underground passage.

Shawn quickly followed.

"The security here seems stricter than before." He sensed the hidden guards in the darkness; more than one, all were High Tier Transcendents.

In front of a gray door engraved with countless mysterious runes.

Shawn once again saw the towering figure of the mysterious Tomb Guardian, hunched over with gray-white hair trailing on the ground, holding a lantern. Shawn looked at her and opened his palm to reveal a unique Black Moon Badge, with a blood-red full moon on the reverse side. He solemnly said, "Lady Hecate’s oracle!"

"From now on, the Black Moon Sect will be under my unified command!"

The Tomb Guardian silently looked at Shawn for a moment before slightly bowing her head, saying, "Follow the Lady’s oracle!"

"Please follow me."

"Chosen One!"

Lady Hecate’s true power in the real world wasn’t in the Church District; there were only a few priests who were Transcendents, while the others were ordinary people. Her true sect was underground at the Night Watch Headquarters; the Black Moon Sect was a warband of Transcendents that worshipped her. However, because the Lady didn’t require mortal faith, the sect was not very large.

Many of them were Night Watchers close to old age!

Mortal beings desperately seek faith when nearing Death; the Black Moon Sect reveres the Lady in hopes of obtaining shelter from Lady Hecate after death. After all, the Netherworld in the Bizarre Realm is quite different from what mortals perceive.

Because here, the Netherworld does not exist, or rather, the Bizarre Realm itself is the Netherworld.

This is why there are Soul Worms in cemeteries.

The entire space of the Bizarre Realm is twisted; the Netherworld and reality overlap, giving birth to the initial immortal souls. Although humanity regained the fate of Death, the Netherworld did not return; it has entirely fused with the Bizarre Realm.

Living in the Bizarre Realm for ordinary people is akin to the living remaining in the Netherworld.

Underneath the dim phosphorescence.

In this vast Underground Labyrinth, one dark figure after another emerged from the shadows.

The old gatekeeper who had led Shawn earlier slowly stood at the front of the group, calmly bowed before Shawn, and said, "Black Moon Sect, Leader - Earl, Warrior Path, Dark Guard."
