Chapter 703: Chapter 594: A Heavy Responsibility (Three Updates)

The daughter arrived. Although King Randy’s blood pressure hadn’t gone down, his spirits lifted significantly. Yi Luowa told Tong Airui and her mother-in-law to rest while she remained by her parents’ bedside alone.

The hands of father and daughter were tightly clasped. King Randy sighed, "Luowa, these days may be tough on you."

"Dad, don’t worry about it. I’m your daughter. If something happens at home, it’s my responsibility. I just hope you and Mom recover quickly... and that Danton can return home soon."

"I’ve instructed Marcus to find Danton as quickly as possible. Otherwise, I’m afraid your mom won’t improve."

Yi Luowa sniffled. "Seventh Brother and Shanshan will be bringing specialists over tomorrow. You and Mom will recover soon."

"Every time something happens to our family, it ends up involving your in-laws. It must be hard on you."

"Dad, don’t think that way. My relationship with them is very good. There’s no such thing as being hard or not. Originally, Eighth Brother and Shanshan wanted to come with us too, but there’s another specialist abroad who won’t be able to arrive until a midnight flight. They’ll come tomorrow morning. Hopefully, once they arrive, Mom will recover quickly."

King Randy turned his head to gaze at his wife and said in a low voice, "Luowa, if your mother doesn’t improve, I’m afraid I can’t hold on much longer either. If Danton returns, all will be well. If he doesn’t... you mustn’t abandon the people of King Randy’s realm."

Yi Luowa gripped her father’s hand tighter, tears streaming down her face. "Dad, what are you saying! Mom and you will recover, and Danton will definitely come home!"

King Randy slowly turned his head back and looked lovingly at his daughter. "Don’t cry. I’m preparing for the worst... Luowa, under my pillow, there’s a key. Take it."

Yi Luowa wiped away her tears and retrieved a key from beneath her father’s pillow.

"This is the locker key. Inside are the royal seal of Haotian Kingdom and the Commander’s Seal. From now on, you’ll temporarily manage the state affairs for me. If you have any questions, you can consult Masco. Consulting doesn’t mean blindly listening to him; you must have your own judgment. The Commander’s Seal is divided into the Dragon Talisman and the Tiger Talisman. The Dragon Talisman is in the locker, while the Tiger Talisman is with Masco. Only with both talismans stamped on the military deployment order can the army of Haotian Kingdom be mobilized."

Having said so much, King Randy grew weary and slowly closed his eyes.

Yi Luowa’s tears fell like a broken string of pearls onto their tightly clasped hands.

King Randy slowly opened his eyes, looking at his daughter with heartache. "I owe you an apology, Luowa. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have been lost for so many years. Now that you’ve finally returned, you haven’t even had a single day of peace, and already you have to shoulder this burden for me and your brother."

Yi Luowa was already sobbing uncontrollably. It took her a long time to choke out, "Dad, stop talking. Rest now. I’ll take good care of state affairs until you recover."

A clear tear slid down King Randy’s cheek. "This is something I should have discussed with Airui. But in this situation, discussion or no discussion, you still have to carry this responsibility."

"Dad..."

"Luowa, let me finish... In the locker, there are two documents. One is the official decree instructing you to temporarily take over state affairs, and the other concerns the succession of Haotian’s kingship after your mother and I pass away..."

Yi Luowa suddenly covered her ears. "Why are you writing a will when you’re perfectly fine? I don’t want to hear it! I don’t want to hear it!"

"Luowa..." King Randy struggled to pull down one of his daughter’s hands. "Listen to me. I keep having a bad feeling. I’m afraid Danton might never return, and your mother and I might also leave you soon. Thankfully, you still have Airui by your side. But Airui is the eldest son of the Aldrich family and the captain of the Divine Eagle Corps. If one day you have to place Haotian and Airui on a scale, which side will your heart lean towards? That’s the one thing I can’t stop worrying about. It’s also what I feel most guilty toward you for."

Yi Luowa tearfully looked at her father. "Dad... if you feel guilty toward me, why don’t you just recover? That way, I won’t have to make such a difficult choice."

"Luowa, even if your mother and I escape this crisis, what about the future? You’ll still have to face this decision one day."

While King Randy was speaking, beads of sweat suddenly appeared on his face. Seeing the drops of sweat on her father’s brow, Yi Luowa cried out in horror, "Dad! Dad, don’t scare me!"

"Doctor!" Tong Airui’s voice came from outside the door.

The doctor quickly rushed in, and Yi Luowa immediately stepped aside to make way.

As Tong Airui entered the room, he exchanged a glance with his wife, and Yi Luowa’s tears poured down in pairs.

Tong Airui reached out and pulled her into his arms. "Don’t cry. Everything will get better."

"Princess, please step outside for now." The doctor turned to glance at them. He had his reasons for asking Yi Luowa to leave – King Randy had been staring at his daughter with increasing agitation.

Tong Airui looked at his father-in-law briefly before guiding his wife out of the room.

As soon as they stepped outside, Yi Luowa buried herself in Tong Airui’s arms and broke into sobs. "Why is this happening? Husband, tell me, why is this happening! Am I really some reincarnated sweeping star, unworthy of family?"

"Don’t say such nonsense!" Tong Airui gently wiped the tears from her face. "No one will come to harm. Trust me."

"How can I be at ease?" Yi Luowa gazed at him with tearful, imploring eyes.

"Do as Dad says. Put his mind at ease. His health will recover soon; as for Mom, the specialists will evaluate her, and she’ll awaken shortly. As for Danton, I’ve deployed additional teams. I refuse to believe I can’t find him!"

Tong Airui stroked her head. "This is the time to stay strong!"

Yi Luowa nodded firmly and opened her hand to show him the key. "I’ve temporarily taken this. In taking it, I understand what it represents. Husband, I may have to stay in Haotian for a while."

"Yes, I’ll stay with you for the next few days. Once Dad and Mom are better, I’ll return."

"No, you can’t leave those responsibilities unattended. I can manage on my own... Husband, when you leave, take Sangyu and Ziyan with you. I’m afraid I won’t be able to care for them properly."

"We’ll stay with you for a few days and get through the hardest part together. Wife, don’t overthink it. Whatever decision you make, I will always support you." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Yi Luowa looked at him gratefully, her lips curling slightly into a faint smile. "How much leave can I take?"

Tong Airui was momentarily stunned, then smiled. "I’m giving you unlimited leave. Whenever you’re ready to return, return to work."

Yi Luowa pressed her lips together in a smile. "I knew my husband was the best! Be sure to keep my office for me."

Tong Airui chuckled and nodded, "Just realizing I’m good now?"

"I’ve always known! Husband, I firmly believe this will all pass soon, and I’ll be back by your side in no time."

Tong Airui gently touched his forehead to hers. "No rush. Even if the children and I return, we’ll visit you often. After all, it’s close by."

"Thank you!" Yi Luowa gratefully clung to his arm. Truthfully, she didn’t expect Tong Airui to be so understanding.

Smiling, he patted her head. This wasn’t what he wanted either, but at a time like this, he couldn’t trouble her further. If she collapsed under the weight, Haotian really would fall into chaos!

With her husband’s support, Yi Luowa felt much lighter. The two stood at the door, hands tightly intertwined, looking at her parents lying in bed.

After administering medication to stabilize King Randy’s blood pressure, the doctor came out of the room.

"How is he?" Yi Luowa asked nervously.

The doctor sighed and shook his head. "King Randy must not endure any further stress. If his blood pressure rises again, his brain’s blood vessels won’t hold and could rupture."

Yi Luowa’s heart clenched instantly.

Tong Airui squeezed her fingers slightly. "As long as he isn’t stressed anymore, he’ll be fine."

Yi Luowa looked toward the doctor, still not convinced.

The doctor nodded. "Duke Airui is right. Avoiding any stress for King Randy is crucial, and I’ll monitor his blood pressure constantly."

"Thank you." Yi Luowa furrowed her brow slightly. "You should all rest. I’ll stay with my parents."

"I’ll join you. Dad will feel more at ease seeing us together."

With tightly pressed lips, Yi Luowa walked into the room with Tong Airui, their fingers tightly linked.

King Randy smiled contentedly when he saw them enter.

Yi Luowa and Tong Airui stayed by their side throughout the night, and by early morning, Long Che and Maizekai arrived with over a dozen specialists.

Seeing his in-laws, King Randy grew so emotional that his blood pressure spiked again, alarming the doctors who quickly administered medication.

After the consultation, the specialists gathered in the study for hours before emerging.

Yi Luowa invited everyone to sit and lowered her voice. "How is my mother’s condition?"

The specialists exchanged glances at Jimo Shanshan before she finally broke the silence. "Fourth Sister-in-law, don’t worry. We will do our utmost to ensure Aunt Zhi Lan awakens."

Yi Luowa stood up and deeply bowed. "I am counting on all of you."

Jimo Shanshan quickly stood up and supported her. "Fourth Sister-in-law, please don’t do this! It is our duty as doctors to save lives and heal the wounded."

With Jimo Shanshan’s reassurance, Yi Luowa finally felt some relief, growing more certain that her mother would wake up!

What she didn’t know, however, was that while Jimo Shanshan assured her with one version of events, Maizekai gave Tong Airui another.

Standing outside the chamber, Maizekai whispered, "Fourth Brother, Aunt Zhi Lan has myocardial infarction-type coronary disease. The main artery is nearly seventy percent blocked, with a high mortality rate. If we proceed with surgery, our success rate is only fifty percent."

Tong Airui pressed his lips together tightly. "Don’t let my wife know the truth. Do your utmost to treat her."

Maizekai nodded. "Understood. I’ll discuss the surgical plans with the team."

Tong Airui sighed deeply before turning back into the chamber.
