Chapter 696: Chapter 589: I Did Not Help the Wrong Person! (Part 1)

Everyone kept Connie company for a while, then suggested she get some rest and went downstairs.

After everyone sat down, Yan Zi announced, "This time, I’m back with my two daughters-in-law, and we’re not leaving again."

Madam Jing Ya glanced at her daughter, "What are you scheming again?"

Joyina laughed and said, "Grandma, it’s not my mom causing trouble; it’s Youyou stirring things up."

Youyou reached out and pinched the back of her hand, pouting as she said to Madam Jing Ya, "Mi Chenxuan is too busy. Even when I’m staying there, I don’t see him much, and, well, my mom keeps nagging about how much she misses everyone, especially you. On top of that, I have this lingering unease about country F, so I decided I might as well stay home to have the baby."

Madam Jing Ya laughed, "By the time you and your mom feel ready to leave again after the baby, Xuanxuan will probably already be back."

"That’s perfect—then I don’t have to go. Grandma, you don’t even know. Whenever I’m in country F, I constantly feel like someone’s going to steal my baby..."

Ni Lu shook her head in resignation, "You’re just like your sister, totally paranoid."

"Youyou’s reaction isn’t as bad as mine was. Back when I was in the hospital, I used to clutch the baby’s crib to sleep every night. If I hadn’t seen a therapist, I might’ve had a total meltdown before I even finished confinement." Yi Luowa patted Youyou’s hand, "Don’t worry, when you’re having the baby, I’ll watch over you."

Joyina wasn’t having it. "If you’re watching her, what about me?"

"You two are really planning to give birth on the same day?" Yi Luowa glared at her.

"Yup, we already agreed. If one of us goes into labor and the other hasn’t shown any signs yet, we’ll just schedule a C-section. Gotta make sure we’re having a pair of ’twins’!"

Yi Luowa rolled her eyes at the two of them, exasperated. "You’re really something! Fine, if you both give birth together, I’ll look after both at the same time. No big deal."

"Look after what?" Tong Aino came downstairs and asked suspiciously.

"Look after the babies. Why are you coming down here?"

"The baby’s asleep, and Connie’s chatting with her mom. Nothing to do with me, so I came down." Tong Aino said as he glanced at his dad, "Dad, Connie just called her dad. They said they could get here early tomorrow morning."

Long Che and Tong Airui exchanged a look before asking Tong Aino, "That woman went back?"

"Yeah, she left."

"She went straight back to the palace?"

"Mm. My father-in-law said when Celia returned, there weren’t any arguments. They even left the house quite peacefully together."

Long Che gave Tong Airui a meaningful glance.

Tong Airui understood, got up, and went into the study. As soon as he left, Teng Qian followed him in.

Tong Aino smacked his lips together, debating whether he should go in too. Long Che glanced at him.

Tong Aino raised his eyebrows slightly, and Long Che tilted his head. Begrudgingly, Tong Aino, who was about to sit down, reluctantly made his way to the study.

Yi Luowa pursed her lips in amusement. He clearly didn’t want to get involved, but Dad insisted on dragging him in. Not that Dad was wrong—this was obviously a matter concerning "Number Five"’s father-in-law’s household. If handled well, it could raise his standing in his father-in-law’s family in the future.

As Tong Aino passed by Yi Luowa, he noticed her smirking mischievously at him and playfully waved a fist in her direction.

Yi Luowa gave him a sideways glance, picked up a pillow from behind her, and made as if to throw it at him.

Tong Aino laughed and dashed into the study.

"Always so naughty!" Tong Yao smiled helplessly. "Already a father, and still like this."

"If I say anything, you probably won’t like it, but Tong Airui’s already been a dad for a year and still acts just like a kid..." Yi Luowa trailed off mid-sentence, suddenly remembered something, and grimaced at the clock. "Mom, my second uncle called earlier, asking me to check with you if it’s okay for him and Huo Li to come by tomorrow. I completely forgot!"

"Of course, it’s fine. What’s inconvenient about that? Really, you should tell them to come stay for a few days before heading back." Tong Yao smiled and patted her lightly on the arm. "Quickly, go call your second uncle back. Don’t keep them waiting."

Yi Luowa hurriedly took out her phone and went to the balcony to make the call.

No sooner had Yi Luowa left than Tong Yao’s phone started ringing. Glancing at the screen, she smiled, "A call from Zhi Lan—guess she’s already heard the news too."

Their mom walked off with her phone in hand. Teng Ai Ni nudged Little Raindrop’s arm, "Look at Mom... ’A call from Zhi Lan.’ She’s never sounded this affectionate talking about us!"

"Stop overthinking. Watch out, or Dad will scold you!" Little Raindrop chuckled.

Long Che glanced at the two of them, set his granddaughter down on the floor, and said, "I heard everything, but I’m too tired to deal with you! Sangyu, go and give your two aunts a smack for me."

With her chubby little hands, Sangyu toddled over to her two aunts.

Teng Ai Ni scooped her up and laughed, "Wow, you’re actually listening to Grandpa?"

Sitting on her aunt’s lap, Sangyu giggled, pulled Little Raindrop-auntie’s hand over, gave it a light pat, and softly whispered, "Cry!"
