Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 672 - 570: Aren’t You Curious About Who the Father of the Child Is? (Three)
Tong Airui froze the frame on the computer screen, then looked up at Queen Haotian. "Mom, come over here and take a look at this person. Do you recognize him?"
Queen Haotian wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and walked over quickly.
On the screen, two women and a man were having a heated argument in the hall.
Queen Haotian squinted slightly. "That beast, he really brought that mistress here! Guards!"
The people outside responded and entered the room.
Queen Haotian pointed at the man and woman in the image. "Find these two people for me immediately!"
"Yes!"
The subordinate responded and left the room. Joel squinted slightly and also walked out.
"Joel!" Queen Haotian chased after him.
Joel turned back to glance at her. "You are the queen. There are some things you are not in a position to handle. Leave this to me. Otherwise, I won’t even have the face to meet Katusha when I die."
Queen Haotian’s lips twitched slightly. "For the child’s sake, leave him a chance to breathe."
Joel frowned. "Zhi Lan!"
"I don’t think even Katusha would want to see that kind of scum so soon."
Joel shook his head. "Zhi Lan, you’re mistaken again. Katusha is going to heaven. That beast is headed for hell. Katusha won’t ever have to see him. Besides, their child is no longer young."
Queen Haotian clenched her fist and turned back into her room. Her actions signaled a silent acquiescence.
Tong Airui closed the laptop. "The likelihood of Katusha’s death being a suicide is quite high. Let’s head back first. Once the autopsy report comes out, everything will be clear."
"Sigh..." Queen Haotian tilted her head back slightly, holding back tears for a long time. "Why couldn’t she wait a little longer? I would have stood up for her."
Tong Yao pressed her lips together slightly and supported Queen Haotian. "Don’t be too sad. What’s done is done. All we can do is face the reality and handle this matter as well as we can."
Queen Haotian nodded. "Alright, let’s head out."
They tried to keep their emotions in check as they returned to the private room, but Yi Luowa still noticed something was wrong. She didn’t ask then because there were others around, but on the way back to the palace, Yi Luowa couldn’t hold back anymore.
"What happened?"
Tong Airui nodded. "Someone you don’t know has passed away."
Yi Luowa’s lips twitched. "Someone died? At the hotel? Who?"
Tong Airui chuckled helplessly. "You’ve asked so many things at once. Which one should I answer first?"
Yi Luowa slapped him on the thigh and turned to look at her mother. "Mom, is it one of your friends? Don’t be too upset. When we entered the private room earlier, your eyes still seemed a bit red."
Queen Haotian let out a heavy sigh. "An old classmate of mine. When I took you to that private room earlier, she wasn’t there..."
Queen Haotian recounted the series of events, unable to stop the tears that began flowing again.
Yi Luowa quickly grabbed some tissues and wiped her mother’s face.
"Beep, beep..." Queen Haotian’s phone rang.
She quickly answered it. After listening to the other end, she said sternly, "Escort him to the palace. I want to interrogate him personally."
After the person responded, she hung up the phone, frowning. "The police have already ruled Katusha’s death a suicide. That beast is legally innocent. Although the law has no hold on him, I will make sure his conscience punishes him! You all head back to your chambers. I’ll be waiting for him in the front hall."
Emperor Haotian looked at his wife. "I’ll go with you."
"You stay with everyone else. I can handle it alone."
Yi Luowa glanced at her mother, who was clearly not in the best state of mind. Letting her go alone was out of the question.
"Mom, let me go with you. I won’t go in; I’ll just wait outside."
Queen Haotian hesitated briefly.
Tong Airui chimed in. "Mom, I’ll go with Luowa. Otherwise, none of us will feel at ease."
Queen Haotian reluctantly nodded.
When the car entered the palace, Yi Luowa and Tong Airui accompanied Queen Haotian to the main hall, comforting her as they waited. Soon, a servant reported that the scum had been brought in.
"You two wait for me in the side hall. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine."
Tong Airui pulled Yi Luowa’s hand as they entered the side chamber. Not long after, the scum was brought into the main hall.
The man showed no trace of grief on his face. After bowing deeply to Queen Haotian, he simply stood with his head lowered.
Queen Haotian gave him a cold look. "Jon, are you satisfied now?"
Jon’s hands clenched slightly into fists, but he said nothing.
Queen Haotian sneered. "I wish you happiness!"
"Thank you! To be honest, I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time." Jon looked at Queen Haotian and said solemnly, "I know you were very close. From high school to university, all the way to now. But you and I were both deceived by her. She’s not the pure Katusha you used to know!"
"She’s already gone. Why say such things now? To clear yourself of the shame of abandoning your wife? Or do you hope I won’t punish you?"
Jon let out a bitter chuckle. "Once I tell you about the things she’s done over the years, you’ll understand."
Queen Haotian frowned slightly. "Go ahead, but what you say—I may not believe."
Jon gazed at her deeply. "Katusha didn’t love me. She married me just to find a stand-in father for her son. I lived with her for twenty years, sharing the same bed but dreaming different dreams. Now when I think back, I feel utterly disgusted!"
Queen Haotian slammed the table heavily. "Shut up! She’s gone, and you’re still dragging her name through the mud? What’s the point?"
Jon shook his head helplessly, pulling a letter out of his pocket and handing it to one of the servants. "Give this to the queen."
The servant took the envelope and handed it to Queen Haotian.
Queen Haotian opened it and glanced at it, her face changing slightly. "When did you discover this?"
"Two years ago. The child was in a car accident and needed a blood transfusion. That’s when I learned he’s blood type B. Katusha and I are both type A. How could we have a type B child? At the time, I didn’t confront her openly. I quietly conducted a paternity test. The results showed he’s Katusha’s child, but not mine.
After the test, I didn’t rush to confront her. Instead, I hired a private detective to follow her. Whether it was her luck or mine, I found nothing. Later, she noticed I was growing colder towards her and our son. She even came to ask me why I was treating them this way. Queen, have you ever seen a woman with such a thick skin?"
Queen Haotian let out a heavy sigh. "I can understand your feelings. But your mistake lies in why you didn’t address this earlier. Now you’re flaunting a mistress everywhere. For someone as proud as her..."
"She’s proud? What about my pride? I worked myself to the bone for this family, only to find out I’ve been raising someone else’s wife and child!" Jon’s voice rasped with anger. "Looking back now, I realize how foolish I was. There was a time I thought the child seemed lonely and suggested we have another, but she refused outright. Her heart was never with me. How could she possibly want a child with me? Queen, I’m forty-five now and still have no children of my own. She left so easily and dumped this mess on me. How am I supposed to go on?"
Queen Haotian rubbed her temples. "After being friends for so many years, I never even knew who she truly loved... What exactly did you say to her today in the hall that drove her to abandon even her child and choose death?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"I went to the hotel today intending to expose everything in front of her classmates and close friends. I wanted a divorce! I wanted her and her son to get out! She knew I planned to reveal the truth, so she first argued with me, but then agreed to go home and sign the divorce papers. She even promised to tell me who the child’s real father was. Only then did I leave."
Queen Haotian sighed. "No matter what, you were husband and wife once. Go back and give her a proper burial. If raising the child makes you too bitter, send him to me."
Jon looked up at Queen Haotian. "I..."
Queen Haotian waved impatiently. "Enough. You don’t even need to handle the burial. Just go live your life well!"
Jon’s lips pressed into a line. "I’ll do as you say. Queen, I’ll take my leave."
Queen Haotian ignored him. After he left, she hurried to the side hall.
Yi Luowa quickly got up from Tong Airui’s lap. "Mom, can we trust what he said?"
Queen Haotian sighed. "I’ll ask a few people later, see if they know anything about this. But if I inquire, Katusha’s secrets will undoubtedly spread."
"No man, no matter how cruel or unwilling to maintain a marriage, would use his own son in a lie. There’s a 90% chance this is true. Mom, I think it’s best not to escalate this further. He’s already agreed to bury Katusha. The child isn’t young anymore. You can look after him a little, but he can support himself. Let’s just let this matter rest."
Queen Haotian pondered for a moment before nodding in solemn agreement. "It seems this is the only way to preserve a bit of dignity for Katusha."
Yi Luowa pouted slightly. "Mom, aren’t you curious about who the child’s father is? And why Katusha sent messages to everyone but didn’t send one to you? And why her last call was to Joel and not to one of you?"
