Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 650 - 552: Instigation (Four More)
Tong Airui laughed and said, "You’re right. Danton will be fine for sure."
Yi Luowa grinned and rubbed his ear. "No rush on this. Wait until you feel the timing is right, then just let Mom know."
"Okay. Let’s monitor for a bit more. If things are truly peaceful over on Haotian’s side, I’ll go with you guys." Tong Airui chuckled and gave her bottom a playful pat. "Come down here and sleep. Tomorrow’s your first official day at work."
Yi Luowa followed his lead and lay down, hesitating for a moment before saying, "Justin senior hasn’t left yet. I wasn’t in a good mood today, so I didn’t spend time with him. Can I have one more day off tomorrow?"
"What do you think?"
Yi Luowa bit her lower lip and shook her head.
Tong Airui gave her a sidelong glance. "Good that you understand!"
"Annoying!" Yi Luowa muttered under her breath and reached out to turn off her bedside lamp.
"What did you say about me?" Tong Airui turned off his lamp and leaned closer.
Yi Luowa shoved him away with her hip. "I said, keep your distance!"
Tong Airui chuckled and ruffled her hair. "With Justin here, you’ve got big brother and Joyina keeping him company. You haven’t touched your books in days, have you? Your training class is going to have an exam soon. If you don’t get serious about studying, watch out for failing. And if you fail, you can kiss that promotion goodbye. Do you plan to stay a squad leader for life?"
Yi Luowa turned her head, giggled, and said, "I just want to be your wife for life."
"That’s doable. I’ll open that back door for you."
Yi Luowa hugged his arm, grinning as she said, "Opening one back door is opening, opening two back doors is opening too. Couldn’t you open one more and help me get the exam questions?"
In the dark, Tong Airui said seriously, "Don’t even think about it. Tomorrow, go to work and actually study... study in my office. If you don’t understand something, I’ll teach you."
Yi Luowa pouted, "I’m not begging you. I’ll just ask on my own tomorrow."
"If you’re not embarrassed, go ahead. At this point, the entire Xiawu knows who you are. If you humiliate yourself now, it’s not just my reputation—you’ll disgrace your parents too."
"Stop dragging my parents into this!" Yi Luowa grunted, pulled the blanket over her head, but before Tong Airui could reach to pull it away, she burrowed out on her own. "Honey, are the exam questions hard?"
"As long as you do the reviewing, they’re not hard."
Yi Luowa blinked her eyes. "Then remind me tomorrow morning to call Justin senior. I don’t want him thinking I’m ignoring him."
"Alright. You can invite him over for dinner."
"That works. After all, we can’t be rude." Yi Luowa tilted her head to glance at him, her eyes crinkling with a smile, "Goodnight, honey."
"Goodnight."
Yi Luowa turned her back to him, her expression instantly darkened, and she thought to herself: Hmph! Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. You just don’t want me to be alone with Justin senior. And then, afraid I’d be upset, you reluctantly invited him over for dinner.
Tong Airui nudged her. "Go to sleep. Stop sneaking around and imagining things about me."
"I’m already asleep," Yi Luowa huffed indignantly.
Tong Airui chuckled helplessly, reached over, and pulled her into his arms.
The next day, Yi Luowa went to Shen Ying with Tong Airui. Once she was at the office, she called Justin and tried to invite him over for dinner. To her surprise, Justin said he was already on his way to the airport due to an urgent matter, heading back to Beidi.
Yi Luowa finally gave up and devoted herself to a full day of intense studying.
Not long before leaving work, Connie called, saying her parents wanted to host dinner for their family tonight at the Aldrich Hotel.
Yi Luowa eagerly agreed, then put down the phone and asked Tong Airui, "Honey, why didn’t Connie’s parents stay at our house?"
"Maybe they brought too many people and worried we wouldn’t have enough room."
"Too many? It’s just Connie’s second brother and sister-in-law, isn’t it?" Yi Luowa scratched her head. "Is it because my mom and second uncle happened to be at our place? Did they stay out to avoid that? If that’s the case, I’d feel so guilty. Connie’s parents rarely visit, and now that they did, they’re staying at a hotel instead..."
Tong Airui tapped the desk. "Just focus on your books and stop worrying about these things. You’ve got Grandma and Mom above you. They’ll handle this sort of thing just fine."
Yi Luowa replied with an "Oh," picked up her book but only read a few pages before looking up again. When she noticed Tong Airui staring at her, she hastily picked up the book and used it to cover her face.
Tong Airui shook his head in exasperation. "When we get there tonight, keep your words to a minimum, eat more food, and once we’re done eating, we’ll head back home."
Yi Luowa’s suspicions grew increasingly strong. She grabbed her phone and said, "I’m calling home to ask Mom about Sangyu and Ziyan. If no one’s looking after them, I’ll stay home with the kids, and you all can go to dinner."
Tong Airui nodded. "That works. If Mom says the kids won’t be brought along, I’ll stay home with you to watch them."
Yi Luowa dialed her mother-in-law, and when Tong Yao heard what it was about, she laughed and said, "There are so many people at home. Why would you two need to come back to babysit? Your grandparents aren’t going to dinner, nor are your aunt and uncle—they’ll stay home to watch the kids."
"Alright, Mom. Should we pick you up later?"
"No need. Your father and I will head over together."
Yi Luowa hung up the phone, raised her eyes to Tong Airui, and said, "Couldn’t pick up on much. But Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt, and Uncle aren’t attending."
"Grandpa and Grandma usually sleep early. As for the aunt and uncle, it’s understandable—they’re not actually in-laws. Stop overthinking it."
Yi Luowa puckered her lips and took her book into the resting room. Her period was bothering her, and the cramps made her want to lie down for a bit.
Just as she settled in, Sheng Duheng and Colin came to find Tong Airui. Before they said a word, Tong Airui took them to a small meeting room.
Yi Luowa had intended to study, but before long, she fell asleep with the book in her hands.
When Tong Airui returned after finishing up the meeting, Yi Luowa was still asleep. He glanced at the time and let her sleep for another half hour before waking her up.
Yi Luowa glanced at the clock and instantly panicked. "Oh my god, it’s almost seven!"
"This timing works perfectly," Tong Airui said, fixing her hair with a smile. "Let’s go."
"Shouldn’t we stop by home to change clothes?"
"If we do that, we’ll be even later." Tong Airui reached out to hold her hand.
"Give me two minutes—need to stop by the restroom." Yi Luowa snatched her bag and rushed to the restroom.
As soon as she went in, Tong Aino called, "Brother, when are you and Sister-in-law arriving?"
"In fifteen minutes." Tong Airui hesitated before swallowing the words he wanted to say.
"We’ll wait for you then. Hurry up—Mom and Dad have already arrived."
"Alright."
Tong Airui fastened the last of his buttons, turned to look at the restroom door, and Yi Luowa came out, saying, "All set, let’s go."
The two arrived at the hotel as quickly as possible. Just as they stepped off the elevator, a female voice echoed from the stairwell, "She’s already favored. Now that her status has changed, you’re going to be suppressed even further! You’d better watch out."
"Second sister-in-law, what are you even talking about? When has my sister-in-law ever suppressed me? Quit saying stuff like this—I hate listening to it!"
