Chapter 603: Chapter 517: When Can You Retire? (Third Update)_2

At this moment, Nancy was reclining on the sofa, resting with her eyes closed. The Queen of Haotian glanced at the fruit knife in Nancy’s hand, furrowed her brows slightly, and turned back to the study.

The Haotian Emperor saw his wife storm in with a face full of anger and quickly asked, "Xia Rou upset you again?"

"It’s not her, it’s Nancy!" The Queen of Haotian slapped the table. "Where did this child even learn such behavior? She’s driving me insane!"

"What happened?" The Haotian Emperor asked, puzzled.

"She’s holding a dull fruit knife, lying on the sofa, waiting for us to compromise with her. Ha! Servants!"

The servant immediately hurried in.

The Queen of Haotian said grimly, "Starting today, stop delivering meals to the princess. She’ll get food only when she admits her mistakes."

"Understood." The servant timidly exited.

The Haotian Emperor looked at his wife. "Are you really not giving her food?"

"She herself said she wouldn’t eat. Why should we keep sending her meals over and over again? Randy, from now on, you’re not allowed to visit her. Let’s see how long she can endure. I want her to understand that no one in this family can threaten us—it’s futile."

The Haotian Emperor hesitated and sat down. He understood why his wife had to do this. Wasn’t it the same with Kai Di back then? The more he compromised with her tantrums and threats, the worse she became.

Nancy didn’t know the Haotian Emperor and Queen had already made up their minds to discipline her. After lounging long enough on the sofa, she ran to the door and clapped on it twice. "Where’s Mom Xia? Why hasn’t she come back yet?"

A servant who usually had a closer relationship with Nancy hesitated, then stepped forward. "Princess Nancy, Mom Xia has already left the palace. It was the Queen herself who sent her away."

Nancy immediately panicked. "Mom Xia left? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?"

"..."

Nancy kicked the door frame heavily. "Go tell my father I’m already dead!"

"Princess Nancy, please stop this commotion. The Queen was here earlier, but she left with a grim expression."

Nancy furrowed her brows slightly and returned to the living room. Picking up the fruit knife, she said, "Tell my father that if he still doesn’t come to see me, I’ll end myself with one stab."

The servants outside the door exchanged glances, and in a flash, all of them dashed away.

Nancy thought they were going to fetch someone for her, but as the sky darkened and her stomach growled, not a single shadow appeared.

Holding her painfully empty stomach, Nancy went to the bedroom and rummaged through the wardrobe. All those snacks she had bought—she had already eaten them all!

Nancy tilted her head sideways onto the bed. Without food, how could she get through tonight?

The sky gradually darkened, and Nancy lay on the bed, whining. Not eating was sheer torture!

Someone lightly knocked on the window outside. Nancy immediately sat up, and a small slip of paper was slipped through the window crack.

Nancy picked up the paper and glanced at it, her brows scrunching instantly. Muttering under her breath, she walked into the bathroom, shredded the paper, and flushed it down the toilet.

The Queen of Haotian stared at the monitor screen, her brows furrowing deeper and deeper.

"Randy, someone in the palace is still passing notes to Nancy."

"Who?" The Haotian Emperor leaned closer.

"This individual looks unfamiliar." The Queen of Haotian pulled up the screenshot to show the Haotian Emperor. "Do you recognize him?"

"That’s the florist in Nancy Palace. After Nancy entered the palace, we recruited a new batch of workers, and he was one of them. I saw him in Nancy’s quarters last time I visited."

"Dismiss this entire batch of new recruits. When I have time, I’ll investigate them one by one. For the person passing the notes, isolate him—I’ll interrogate him myself later."

"Zhi Lan... Fine, I’ll follow your instructions." Though the Haotian Emperor had so much to say, he was afraid of making another mistake, so he immediately swallowed his words.

The Queen of Haotian continued watching Nancy on the monitor. She was pacing around the room like a trapped animal.

The Queen of Haotian rubbed her forehead. After the Haotian Emperor carried out her orders, she sighed bleakly, "A crooked tree—no telling if it’s possible to set it straight again... Randy, when Danton’s health improves, let’s arrange a marriage for him. While I’m still young, I can help them raise children. After all, raising one’s own grandchildren provides the most peace of mind."

"Danton is only nineteen. Isn’t it a bit early for marriage? Nancy is still our daughter, even if Xia Rou influenced her badly. Her foundation is still good. Together, we can steer her back onto the right path."

The Queen of Haotian curled her lips dismissively. "Nancy’s foundation is good? People say daughters take after their mothers. What if she turns out like Kai Di?"

The Haotian Emperor, cornered, dared not utter a word.

The Queen of Haotian let out a deep sigh. "To be honest, if not for Nancy having done a DNA test to confirm, I’d much prefer Yi Luowa to be my biological daughter instead—that child resembles me far more."

The Haotian Emperor chuckled bitterly. "Ever since you returned from Xiashaman, you’ve been constantly talking about Yi Luowa. Is she really that outstanding?"

"Long Che and Tong Airui—don’t pretend you don’t know their caliber. They both admire her, so how could she not be the most brilliant? You haven’t even seen her two kids, especially Sang Yu. She looked almost identical to Nancy at birth. Everyone would call her adorable—I’ve wanted to kiss her myself. Unfortunately, she’s not our child."

The Haotian Emperor raised a brow slightly. "You fainted right after giving birth to Nancy. How could you possibly remember how she looked then?"

The Queen of Haotian shot him a glare. "I saw her for a brief moment before passing out. Just that one glance, and I’ve remembered it for over twenty years. Every time that little drama unfolds in my dreams, my heart bleeds."

The Haotian Emperor lowered his head in guilt. "If you like Yi Luowa and her kids so much, why don’t we adopt her as a goddaughter?"

"I’ve considered it, but Tong Airui rejected me outright. And even if I got past him, there’s still Long Che. Haotian is such a mess—who would want to step into this chaos?"

Saying this, the Queen of Haotian pushed the laptop aside. "Where’s that florist being held? I want to go see him."

"I’ll go with you." The Haotian Emperor had endured a long day of reprimands from his wife, but this time, he truly had no temper left. After all, he’d been making mistakes for twenty-one years. Fortunately, he’d woken up in time. Otherwise, the troubles of Haotian would’ve grown even worse!

...

The Fourth Master was busy.

"Beep beep..." The phone ringing interrupted Fourth Master’s plans.

Fourth Master frowned. "It’s so late, and someone’s calling!"

"Just pick up. I’ll go fill the bath water." Yi Luowa, barefoot, stepped into the bathroom herself.

Halfway through filling the tub, Tong Airui walked in with a grim face. "Wife, I need to go see my big brother."

Yi Luowa immediately sensed something. Reflexively, she tightened the bathrobe around her. "Did something happen to Danton?"

"No danger this time. We captured a few suspects. I’m going over to check." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Yi Luowa stared into his eyes and asked uncertainly, "Are you sure it’s no danger?"

"Why would I lie to you?" Tong Airui glanced at the water in the tub. "I’ll take a quick shower and leave. Don’t soak too long in the bathtub. Don’t worry about matters over there—I’ll handle it and return soon."

Tong Airui said this, turned on the shower, took a hasty rinse, and rushed out the door.

Yi Luowa turned off the faucet and followed him out. "I’ll go with you."

"Be good! You’ve had a long day—rest early." Tong Airui, dressed and ready to leave, walked to her, cupped her small face, and kissed her deeply. "I’m leaving now."
