Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 499 - 431 My Daughter-in-law is Awesome! (Third update)
"Wife, what are our two little treasures up to?" Tong Airui asked with a smile.
Yi Luowa smiled back. "They’re upstairs drinking milk and napping. Do you miss them already?"
"I miss you even more!"
"Haha..." You Xian, sitting to the side, laughed. "My brother-in-law says he misses my sister!"
Yi Luowa quickly covered her mouth and said to Tong Airui, "That’s enough of that, we’ve got an eavesdropper here."
Both of them hung up the phone simultaneously. Yi Luowa gave You Xian’s head a firm rub. "I’m going to check on the kids; you play by yourself for a while."
"I want to go too!" You Xian stood up. "I promise I won’t wake them, I’ll just quietly watch over them. Oh, and I bought a ton of toys for them. Once Mi Xiaosi is back, we can bring them over to the kids."
Yi Luowa gave her a glance and, seeing she was behaving, led her upstairs.
At six o’clock, Tong Airui arrived home on the dot. After dinner, Long Che called him into the study.
Tong Airui felt a little nervous but maintained his composure and asked with a smile, "Dad, do you need me for something?"
"How’s the situation in Country R that you’ve been investigating?"
Realizing this was what his father wanted to discuss, Tong Airui quietly exhaled a sigh of relief. "They’re reshuffling their troops. I think they’re planning something big."
"I’ve sensed it too. They’re preparing to make a move, but their target isn’t us..."
"If I’m not wrong, their target is Haotian!"
Long Che nodded. "Haotian operates along the same sea route as them. They’ve been skirmishing for years, but I don’t understand why they didn’t exploit Haotian’s internal conflict earlier and chose this moment instead."
Tong Airui chuckled softly. "Dad, this time Country R isn’t aiming to take over the sea route. They want some concessions from Haotian. Because of someone like Kai Di, Haotian gave numerous benefits to Xiamu and Beidi. Country R must be green with envy! During Haotian’s civil strife, they didn’t act, not because they didn’t want to, but because they didn’t dare. The cost of an attack would’ve left them crippled—harming the enemy wouldn’t be worth their own losses."
Long Che’s lips curved slightly. "Your analysis is reasonable. This time, their invitation for me to visit is mainly about ensuring Xiamu remains neutral. After all, we’ve always had a good relationship with Haotian. If it weren’t for the Kai Di incident, I doubt Country R would dare extend the invitation at all."
Tong Airui frowned slightly. "Did they say that to you directly?"
Long Che shook his head. "No, they don’t have the nerve. Today, I discussed with your Uncle Muta; we decided not to make any statements for now. However, you need to stay vigilant on your end."
"I’ve been thinking about that too. I’m planning to secretly send some people over. If trouble breaks out, at least we’ll be prepared."
"Come to the palace with me tomorrow. Share your plans with your Uncle Muta. You’ve been on leave long enough—it’s time to get back to business before others start gossiping."
Tong Airui nodded. "Alright. Honestly, though I’ve been at home, my mind and eyes have been focused on the Shen Ying unit. After last year’s overhaul, the whole place now has a fresh look—it’s quite uplifting."
"How’s Bert doing under you?"
"He’s doing great and getting along well with everyone. When he first joined Shen Ying, I told my second uncle to guide him if he needed help."
Long Che nodded but then fixed his piercing gaze on his son again. "Why were you in Country S last night?"
"Huh? I didn’t... Haha... Dad, I just had some personal matters to handle." Tong Airui laughed and took a step back. "If there’s nothing else, I’ll go check on the kids."
Long Che’s expression instantly darkened. "Be serious! Ni’er isn’t in the palace. Did something happen to her?"
Tong Airui frowned slightly. "Ai Ni is fine. Who’s been tattling to you? Colin? Second Uncle? Bert?"
"Do you need anyone to tattle? As soon as your private jet took off, your Uncle Muta and I both got the notification."
Tong Airui smiled. "With just your jet and mine at the airport, I had no choice but to use mine."
"Is something wrong with your sister?" Long Che glared at him, annoyed by his flippant attitude.
"Nothing’s wrong. Ai Ni mentioned to Luowa that her stomach hurt a little. Luowa insisted I check on her, so I went. But by the time I got there, Ai Ni and her husband had gone to their castle for some fun. I saw she was fine and came back."
"No big deal, yet you flew there personally?" Long Che sounded doubtful. "Don’t make me go too. If I find out something’s wrong with Ni’er, neither of you will hear the end of it!"
Tong Airui took out his phone, dialed Ai Ni, and handed it over to his father without saying a word. "Ask her yourself."
Long Che shot him a warning glare. "Keep quiet!"
"Dad, who are you scolding?" Ai Ni’s cheerful voice came through the phone.
"Your brother! He secretly went to see you and hid it from us. What’s going on with you?"
"Nothing’s wrong. My brother and sister-in-law are just overreacting," Ai Ni giggled. "Dad, hang up, and we can video chat. I’ll show you myself so you can relax."
Long Che snorted. "Seeing you isn’t as good as seeing my granddaughters! But why did your stomach hurt if nothing’s wrong?"
"Haha... it’s embarrassing to tell you..."
"Dad, Ai Ni overate! She got a stomachache from being too full and made my brother take a trip for nothing," You Jia’s laughter came through the phone.
Long Che sighed. "So small-minded. As long as you’re okay. End the call."
"Dad, please don’t tell anyone at home. Otherwise, they’ll all laugh at me," Ai Ni pleaded over the phone.
"Don’t worry. I won’t share such an embarrassing detail," Long Che chuckled and handed the phone back to his son.
Tong Airui hung up and said, "Dad, please don’t tell Mom either, or she’ll overthink."
"Alright." Long Che gave him a look. "I thought your wife was your only priority, but it seems you’re deeply attached to your sister too."
Tong Airui sighed. "It was my wife who made me go. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have dared. My position draws too much attention."
Long Che chuckled. "Luowa is a good woman."
Tong Airui smiled as well and followed his father out. Although this small incident blew over, it reminded Tong Airui to switch transportation methods the next time he wanted to sneak out.
Tong Airui entered the nursery and saw his wife there. Smiling, he approached the two cribs.
"You’re late. They just fell asleep," Yi Luowa whispered.
Bending down, Tong Airui looked at one child and then the other. "They’re sleeping so soundly; they won’t wake up anytime soon."
"This nap will probably last until nine." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Then why are you staying here?" Tong Airui pinched her cheek.
Yi Luowa pouted. "Once they wake up, Dad will take them away. I want to watch them a little longer."
"Dad’s really been taking them to his room?"
"Yes."
"The world’s changed. Haha..." Tong Airui gave his daughter another look before standing up and putting an arm around his wife’s shoulders. "Enough watching. Let’s go to our room—I’ve got something to tell you."
"What is it?" Yi Luowa asked suspiciously.
Tong Airui led her back to their bedroom and, after closing the door, said, "Wife, I need to buy a small private jet under your name. Mine draws too much attention."
Yi Luowa shook her head in disapproval. "If we’re buying, let’s buy a big one. We’re not short on money."
"Showoff!" Tong Airui chuckled, playfully biting her slightly pouted lips. "I want something less conspicuous; otherwise, I’ll keep getting found out."
"Dad knows you went to see Ai Ni!"
Tong Airui nodded. "But it’s okay. Ai Ni and I coordinated perfectly, and Dad didn’t suspect a thing. Ai Ni’s guts are big too—she even suggested video chatting with Dad. She wasn’t afraid he’d actually call her bluff."
Yi Luowa patted her chest in relief. "As long as nothing was revealed, that’s all that matters. As for the plane, do as you see fit. The bank cards and ID are in my bag—you can take them."
"My wife is so generous!" Tong Airui hugged Yi Luowa tightly. "I was just thinking: what would I do if you were as stingy as Mom?"
"Mom only skimps on herself. When has she ever shortchanged you? Don’t be ungrateful!" Yi Luowa glared at him.
"...Alright, alright! My bad!" Tong Airui laughed and patted her head. "Wife, how many more days until I’m off probation?"
"Huh?" Yi Luowa froze, then saw his teasing grin and gave him a slap. "Your probation is indefinite—I’m pregnant again!"
"What?!" Tong Airui looked at her in shock.
Yi Luowa pointed to her belly. "I’m pregnant. Can’t you see it’s gotten bigger?"
Tong Airui narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Who’s the father? I’ll just tell you now: if you want me to raise that child, it’s not happening! I’ve been holding back for nearly a year and haven’t touched you once."
"Keep acting!" Yi Luowa glared at him.
Tong Airui shrugged with a laugh. "Haha... I can’t keep the act up anymore. Wife, listen to me: your belly isn’t big at all. Besides, you just gave birth—it’ll go back to normal soon."
"I’m worried it won’t." Yi Luowa pouted. "Starting tomorrow, I’ll begin morning exercises."
"I’ll join you..."
"Ding-dong..."
Tong Airui was about to comfort his wife further when someone knocked on the door. He let go of her, quickly walked to the entrance, and just cracked it open when Long Che urgently asked, "Rui’er, did you take the babies?"
