Chapter 497: Chapter 429 I Guessed You Were Crying (Second Update)

Tong Airui smiled, "Tell your sister-in-law I’ll be home tomorrow evening, and she should get some rest early."

"I heard that, Ai Ni. You should get some rest early too," Yi Luowa said with a laugh before hanging up the phone.

After Ai Ni hung up, she still wanted to chat with her brother, but Tong Airui was insistent that she go to sleep.

Just as Ai Ni fell asleep, You Jia returned. Tong Airui gestured for silence, and the two of them quietly walked out the door.

"Did you find out what happened?" Tong Airui lowered his voice as he asked.

You Jia, unusually upset, said, "Severe negligence. In this heat, they didn’t even check the tires before driving off."

Tong Airui raised an eyebrow. "At least it’s not some conspiracy. From now on, hand off these trivial tasks to Sister An’an. Among your people, the only one I trust is her. She’s been by Ai Ni’s side for so long without anything going wrong."

"Alright," You Jia nodded. "Brother, Ai Ni’s asleep. You should go rest in the caregiver’s room for a bit; I’ll watch over her."

"It’s almost dawn. No need. I’ll sit with Ai Ni for a while," Tong Airui said as he turned back to the ward, pulling another chair to sit next to Ai Ni’s bed with You Jia.

Ai Ni was sleeping soundly. In her dreams, it seemed like she was having some fun, as the corners of her mouth remained slightly upturned.

Tong Airui mouthed to You Jia: I brought some scar ointment. Remember to apply it to Ai Ni’s wounds every day.

You Jia nodded and mouthed back: I have some ointment as well, but I didn’t dare send someone to retrieve it, worried it’d tip off the family.

Tong Airui frowned slightly: Don’t go back for it. Grandpa mustn’t find out about this, or he’ll make a fuss.

You Jia pressed his lips together: Got it. I’ll do my best to keep it under wraps.

Tong Airui gestured toward Ai Ni: While she’s in the hospital, get Ai Ni to call Grandpa when she’s free. That way, he’ll calm down a bit.

You Jia chuckled: I think Dad might end up like Grandpa someday—tagging along with his granddaughter when she gets married.

Tong Airui shot him a glare: My daughter’s not getting married. She’ll bring a husband home instead.

You Jia shook his head with a laugh: Wasn’t everyone saying the same about Ai Ni before? Yet in the end, she still married far away.

Tong Airui let out a dissatisfied huff: That’s because you wooed her. Without you, my sister wouldn’t have ended up so far from home!

Too irritated to continue the conversation, Tong Airui pulled out his phone and began flipping through photos of his wife and kids in the album.

You Jia leaned over for a look. "Hasn’t even been a few days, and they’re even cuter now!"

Tong Airui made a shushing gesture and handed the phone to You Jia.

You Jia scrolled through the pictures one by one. The two little ones had inherited all the best features of Tong Airui and Yi Luowa.

After going through the photos twice, You Jia saved a few pictures of the siblings to his own phone.

Tong Airui gave him a suspicious look.

You Jia grinned and mouthed: People say looking at beautiful things during pregnancy makes the baby prettier.

Tong Airui’s mouth twitched. Who came up with this stuff? It was the first time he’d heard it.

You Jia laughed: Brother, you really love those two little ones, don’t you?

Tong Airui smiled and nodded: I can’t even bear to leave them. But honestly, even if I stayed home every day, my chances of holding them wouldn’t increase much. Still, just watching them feels comforting.

The two continued chatting about the kids in hushed tones. As dawn broke, Ai Ni woke up, looked at her brother, then at You Jia, and pouted. "Have you two been sitting here all night?"

"Didn’t feel tired," You Jia said with a smile as he handed the phone to Ai Ni. "Look at Sangyu and Ziyan—they’re even more beautiful than the last time we saw them."

Ai Ni beamed as she looked at her nephew and niece’s photos. "I’ve never seen such adorable kids. Brother, Sangyu and Ziyan’s eyelashes are so long. Have you measured how long they are?"

Tong Airui shook his head helplessly. "I was just telling You Jia earlier—I can barely get close to the kids. Even your sister-in-law has to compete with the rest of the family to hold them, let alone measure their eyelashes."

"Those little cuties—if I were home, I’d fight to hold them too," Ai Ni said, pouting. "Honey, our dear Carlos King even wants me to have kids as stunning as Sangyu and Ziyan. How could we possibly have such amazing genes?"

You Jia smiled and patted her head. "If you look at them every day from now on, maybe our kids will end up looking like them."

Tong Airui chuckled, "Ai Ni, how’s your body feeling now?"

"No problems anymore. Once the wound on my forehead heals, I can go home," Ai Ni replied.

"This is no trivial matter! You Jia, go get the doctor to check her wound. And take a look at the baby, too."

You Jia called out toward the door, and a subordinate promptly responded. Before long, the doctor was brought in.

Tong Airui waited until the results came back clear before he felt reassured. He stayed with his sister at the hospital through the morning and only caught a flight back to Xiawu at noon.

As soon as Tong Airui left, Yi Luowa’s call came through.

At that moment, Ai Ni was crying miserably, her face a mess of tears and snot. Seeing it was her sister-in-law, she sniffled and picked up the phone.

Yi Luowa sighed, "I knew you’d be crying."

Ai Ni sobbed audibly, "Sister-in-law, I miss my brother and all of you so much."

"When Sangyu and Ziyan are a bit older, we’ll go visit you in S Country," Yi Luowa said, pressing her lips together. "Stop crying. It’s not good for the baby."

At the mention of the baby, Ai Ni quickly stopped herself from crying.

Yi Luowa laughed. "Let me tell you something fun."

Ai Ni sniffled. "What fun thing?"

"Ziyan and Sangyu slept at Mom’s place last night. This morning, Dad was woken up by a loud fart from Ziyan. Hahaha..."

"Hahaha..."

"And it gets better. Mom said Dad was busy watching Ziyan, and then Sangyu let out a loud fart too. Afterward, she even laughed to herself. Those two farts kept Dad laughing all morning. Hahaha..."

"Haha... I’m dying of laughter... How are they so funny?"

Yi Luowa laughed. "Kids can do anything and it’s endearing. Imagine if we did that. Dad would scold us to death."

"Haha... We’d definitely get scolded!"

"Feeling better now?" Yi Luowa asked with a smile.

"Much better. But I miss home even more," Ai Ni said.

"After these three months are up, talk things over with You Jia. If it’s feasible, come back and stay for a while."

"Yeah, You Jia mentioned it too. He said he’ll bring me back to stay for a few days before I give birth."

The two chatted for a long time. Seeing that Ai Ni was no longer upset, Yi Luowa finally ended the call and stepped out.

In the living room, Tong Yao and Yan Zi were each holding a child, discussing the details of Mi Chenxuan’s wedding.

Yi Luowa stood nearby, listening for a while. Feeling an itch to hold the kids, she hesitated, not daring to join in the competition for a turn.

Bored, Yi Luowa started making funny faces at the kids. One moment she flared her nostrils, the next she stuck out her tongue. The two little ones giggled loudly, waving their tiny hands in delight.

Tong Yao glanced up at her.

Yi Luowa quickly straightened up, trying to look serious.

Tong Yao laughed and gave her a playful slap. "Why are you just standing here teasing the kids? Don’t you have studying to do today?"

"I’ll study after I play for a bit," Yi Luowa said, scrunching her nose. "Mom, do you think Sangyu and Ziyan will inherit my reluctance to study when they grow up?"

"If you’re worried about that, it’s not too late for you to study seriously now," Tong Yao replied.

"I see what this is. You’re just trying to get rid of me," Yi Luowa pouted.

Yan Zi laughed. "With the house finally quiet today, your mom and I can peacefully hold the kids. Go study and stop bothering us."

"Who says the house is empty? I’m back~"

Hearing that voice, Tong Yao and Yan Zi instinctively held the children tighter in their arms.
