Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 484 - 417 I’m Afraid Both of These Are Boys (First Update)
Yi Luowa sighed, "I’m afraid both of mine will be boys."
"You haven’t even given birth yet, you won’t know until it happens." Ni Lu chuckled. "Look at me, I’ve gone and put more pressure on you with my big mouth again."
Yi Luowa laughed. "I’m pretty good at handling pressure now. Otherwise, seeing the expectation in my dad’s eyes every day would’ve driven me mad already."
"Your dad is really something else. What father-in-law meddles in these things?" Ni Lu shook her head. "I honestly don’t know how your mother-in-law managed all these years."
Yi Luowa looked at Ni Lu and laughed. "Be careful not to let my dad hear that! He might just have something to say about it!"
Ni Lu smirked as she laughed. "And what would he say about me?"
"Ahem ahem..." Yi Luowa cleared her throat and mimicked Long Che’s tone. "Tong Yao, tell me, how has Jack tolerated Ni Lu for all these years?"
"Ahem ahem..." A soft chuckle-tinged cough came from the hallway.
Yi Luowa’s cheeks flushed as she whispered to Ni Lu, "He didn’t go to the hospital, did he?"
"With someone like him stepping into a hospital? You’d have half the nation in a panic from misunderstanding the situation!" Ni Lu helped Yi Luowa into the living room.
Yi Luowa glanced at Long Che, who was sitting on the sofa, and gave an awkward laugh. "Dad."
Long Che smiled warmly. "What you just said really hit home for me."
"Hehe, just teasing Mom a bit." Yi Luowa chuckled awkwardly. "Dad, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to my room."
"Go on." Long Che’s gaze was filled with paternal affection as he smiled and said, "Luowa, if I’ve caused you any stress, just pretend I never said or did anything."
"Dad, I’m not stressed." Yi Luowa gave a small laugh and pulled Ni Lu into the bedroom.
A little past seven in the evening, Tong Airui came back. Yi Luowa immediately asked, "How’s Shanshan? Can she give birth tonight?"
Tong Airui shook his head. "I don’t know. I had just arrived at the hospital when Shen Ying called. I had to return to Shen Ying before coming back here."
"Then I’ll call Mom to ask." Yi Luowa picked up the phone.
"Don’t bother. It’s definitely not happening yet. Grandpa said she’d deliver on the twenty-first, so at the earliest, it’d be in the middle of the night." Tong Airui glanced at the clock. "I’ll go check on her after you’ve gone to bed."
"No need to wait for me to sleep. Go check now." Yi Luowa pulled up the blanket. "At times like this, the more people, the better the chance."
Tong Airui leaned on the edge of the bed, grinning as he looked at her. "Wife, you’ve really scared yourself silly! Giving birth isn’t something anyone else can help with—it all depends on oneself."
"I need you there for moral support, not to actually help!" Yi Luowa pouted. "What am I going to do when it’s my turn to give birth? I’m already terrified."
Tong Airui smiled and kissed her pouting pink lips. "When it’s your turn, I’ll be by your side, cheering you on."
Yi Luowa gave him a look. "Then you go cheer Shanshan on first... Or should I come with you?"
"Taking you out so late—do you want Dad and Mom to scold me to death?" Tong Airui chuckled. "I’ll go right away; I’ll check in at the hospital and come back as soon as Shanshan delivers."
"Alright, go ahead." Yi Luowa reached out and stroked his face. "Nothing too serious with Shen Ying, right?"
Tong Airui shook his head. "Nothing major. There was some conflict in Xizhou, so the Xiawu faction has to send a covert team, and the task has been assigned to Shen Ying."
Yi Luowa furrowed her brows slightly. "Ugh, can’t they just calm down for once! Honey, pass me the sketchpad before you go."
Tong Airui glanced at the sketchpad on the bedside table. "What do you need it for?"
"Graduation project."
Tong Airui frowned disapprovingly. "You’re in this state, and you’re still worrying about this stuff?"
"It’s already clear in my mind. I just need to sketch it out. I spoke to Huo Li—she’ll help polish it up later for production. My team submits the blueprints; I submit the final product. Pretty cool, huh?"
"And what if you wear yourself out?" Tong Airui still didn’t hand her the sketchpad.
"If I get tired, I’ll just rest." Yi Luowa rubbed her temples. "Actually, I just want to relieve some stress. I’m feeling really anxious... No, not just anxious—terrified."
"Alright, but take care of yourself. Rest if you feel drained."
Seeing her nod, Tong Airui finally handed her the sketchpad.
Yi Luowa picked up the pen and made a stroke on the blank paper. "Honestly, using the computer would be quicker, but I’m worried about the radiation affecting the baby."
"How about I help you draw it on the computer when I get back?"
"No need, just go already."
Tong Airui ruffled her hair, changed into casual clothes, and headed out the door.
When he arrived at the hospital, Jimo Shanshan hadn’t delivered yet. Everyone was waiting in the hallway, and from time to time, painful moans could be heard from the delivery room.
Tong Airui quickly approached his mother.
Tong Yao shot him a displeased look. "Why are you here so late? What if Luowa needs to use the bathroom at night and falls?"
"I told Aunt Ni Lu—she’s staying with Luowa." Tong Airui raised an eyebrow slightly. "What’s the situation now? How much longer until it’s over?"
Tong Yao shook her head. "You can’t predict how long childbirth will take. It’s just a torturous wait."
Tong Airui pressed his lips into a thin line. "If natural delivery is this painful, then we should just plan for a cesarean for Luowa."
Tong Yao nodded. "With two babies, and them being large, a natural birth might be too difficult."
Ning Mingxi chimed in. "Natural birth hurts now, cesarean hurts afterward. Honestly, being a woman is never easy."
Tong Airui exhaled deeply. "Aunt, where’s Lao Qi?"
"He’s in there with her. Rui’er, just take a look and go back. Someone needs to stay with Luowa." Ning Mingxi, about to become a grandmother herself, spoke sensibly this time.
"I’ll wait a bit longer—Luowa’s worried about Shanshan. If Shanshan delivers, I’ll head back. Without definite news, she probably won’t even let me lie down." Tong Airui shook his head with a smile.
Ning Mingxi smiled and patted his shoulder. "Just like your dad, afraid of your wife! Go back, I’ll call you when it’s over."
Tong Airui hesitated.
Tong Yao gave him a look. "Just go. There are enough of us here."
"And take your mom with you. In the past couple of hours, your dad has called at least ten times." Ning Mingxi scoffed. "If I’d known he’d end up like this in old age, I would’ve stopped your mom from marrying him no matter what."
Tong Airui gave a helpless smile. "Aunt, don’t you think my mom is really happy now?"
"That’s because of you three kids. Your mom’s happiness comes from you."
Tong Aino walked over, holding Connie’s hand. "Aunt, stop badmouthing my dad behind his back. If he hears, he’ll start arguing with you again."
Ning Mingxi widened her eyes in mock anger. "Who’s afraid of him?"
Mai Shenglun sighed deeply as he glanced at Ning Mingxi. "You really need to let go of this grudge against Long Che."
"It’s because she’s got too much free time!" Tong Yao rolled her eyes at Ning Mingxi and got up to move closer to the delivery room door. She took Lang Yuxuan’s hand and said, "You’ve been standing here for over an hour. Go take a break."
Lang Yuxuan replied anxiously, "Back when Old Four went in, it didn’t take long. But Old Five has been in there for ages without any movement yet..."
"This baby must be a slowpoke!" Ning Mingxi massaged her forehead.
Lang Yuxuan shot her a glance. "Maybe not. What if they take after you and aren’t slow?"
"Unlikely!" Ning Mingxi waved him over. "Come sit before you tire yourself out."
Connie saw Lang Yuxuan approach and whispered to Tong Airui, "Brother, go back and keep my sister-in-law company. Aino and I will stay with Shanshan."
Joyina gestured emphatically at Tong Airui. "Fourth, your third brother and I are staying too. You head back."
"Alright, I’ll leave." Tong Airui stood up. In truth, the occasional sounds coming from the delivery room were deeply unsettling for him. His wife would face the same ordeal in just over two months. He didn’t want to stay and hear it any longer.
As Tong Airui got into the car, Yuan Hang turned and asked, "Did she give birth?"
"Not yet. They all told me to head back." Tong Airui frowned slightly. "Yuan Hang, you’ll take on this Xizhou peacekeeping mission, won’t you?"
Yuan Hang was momentarily stunned. "Alright."
Tong Airui said firmly, "Take Kou’er with you for some field training."
Yuan Hang started the engine. "But Yi Gong will be giving birth soon—Kou’er should stay home."
"Lao Ba and Youyou have completed their mission. Once Youyou comes back, she’ll take over caring for Luowa in Kou’er’s place. For the next few years, you’ll be the go-to person for missions. It might be tough, but it’ll benefit your future."
Yuan Hang nodded gratefully. "I understand your good intentions, Grandpa! But I don’t want any more promotions—I just want to stay by your side."
Tong Airui shot him a look of disdain. "You’re supposed to be the role model for your generation at the base. Saying something like that—you’re not afraid of drowning in everyone’s spit? You just focus on preparing. Once I organize the materials from Lao Ba and Youyou’s mission, you’ll deploy."
"Got it!"
This peacekeeping mission would last a year. Yuan Hang had always thought this assignment would go to Mi Chenxuan. He hadn’t expected his grandfather to give him the opportunity instead.
