Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 463 - 400 Who is that person? (Part 3)
Colin froze for a moment, "Shot himself? Why didn’t I hear any gunfire?"
"The gun was fitted with a silencer. The squad leader is already over there."
"I’ll go take a look." Colin grabbed his hat and strode out.
Mi Chenxuan sneered, "Just assigned me a task, and now he’s solved it himself. Fourth Sister-in-law, aren’t you going to take a look?"
Yi Luowa gently stroked her belly, "No."
"Then I’ll go check."
Yi Luowa nodded. Once Mi Chenxuan left, she headed to the meeting room next door.
The meeting room was empty; everyone had likely gone to watch the commotion. Yi Luowa picked up a dossier and started flipping through it. It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy the excitement; she just didn’t want her two unborn children to sense the aura of death so soon.
Yi Luowa furrowed her brows slightly. She thought about how her mother must have felt when she was pregnant with her. Perhaps it was a similar sentiment. Alas, whatever the reason might have been for her mother losing her, she must have felt grief. From now on, Yi Luowa vowed to protect her two little ones with all her might.
Halfway through the dossier, people began returning to the room.
Yi Luowa smiled at them briefly before continuing to read the dossier. It pertained to Ruan Dawang, a matter she cared about more than anyone else. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Before lunchtime, Tong Airui walked in.
The few people in the meeting room were about to stand up, but Tong Airui waved them off.
"Engineer Yi..."
Yi Luowa raised her eyes to look at him.
"I brought your clothes back."
"Oh." Yi Luowa supported herself on the table, stood up, and followed him out the door while holding the dossier.
"It’s time for your fruit break, and you didn’t even think of coming over to eat." As soon as they walked out, Tong Airui started his mild reproach.
Yi Luowa pursed her lips behind him.
Tong Airui, like he had eyes on the back of his head, said without turning, "Quit pouting at me!"
This time, Yi Luowa not only pouted but also threw him a glare.
Tong Airui turned his head and caught her right in the act. He chuckled, "You!"
Yi Luowa pursed her lips into a smile and followed him into the office.
Tong Airui pointed to two sets of military uniforms on the sofa and asked, "I checked them; there’s no odd smell. Do you want to change into them now, or have Kou’er wash them first?"
"Wash them before wearing." Yi Luowa walked straight into the restroom, washed her hands, and then picked up the fruit platter to inspect it. "I don’t like dragon fruit; you can have it."
"If you don’t like it, eat less of it, but you have to have at least one or two pieces. The nutritionist balanced this for you; you must eat some."
Yi Luowa pouted and picked up a small fork to stab a piece of dragon fruit and put it into her mouth. Then, she started feeding Tong Airui with big bites.
Tong Airui, his mouth stuffed with dragon fruit, struggled to swallow before saying, "You’ve been feeding me so much lately that I’m gaining weight. If I keep eating like this, I’ll have to change to bigger-sized uniforms."
"Where would you even find bigger ones to wear?" Yi Luowa giggled. "I think the largest size on you would still look like flood pants."
"Ankle pants," Tong Airui smiled as he watched her eat three mangosteen pieces, then asked, "You like this one?"
"Mm. Let me feed you one."
"No thanks. You eat as much as you want of what you like." Tong Airui reached out to wipe her mouth.
Yi Luowa gave him a faint smile and sat down on the sofa. "Did Gao Can leave anything behind?"
"No."
"Someone planning to commit suicide wouldn’t leave nothing behind."
"Well, that’s what everyone thinks—suicide. But that’s not the case."
"It’s murder?" Yi Luowa furrowed her brows. It felt like a scene straight out of a spy thriller: killing someone in an office building, then staging it as a suicide. What kind of security could this place even claim to have?
"It’s not murder. The gunshot came from his own hand, but he was forced to pull the trigger." Tong Airui glanced at her dossier on the coffee table. "You brought this—are you trying to tell me something?"
"I found an issue in the dossier."
"What issue?"
"A gap."
Tong Airui chuckled, "Go on."
"For Ruan Dawang and Gao Can to manage something this covert, there must’ve been someone else working with them." Yi Luowa bit her lip momentarily. "Just now, you said someone forced Gao Can to pull the trigger. If we find this person, then we can bridge this gap."
"No wonder Colin risked punishment to get you transferred here." Tong Airui laughed and ruffled her hair. "My clever wife and her sharp little mind!"
Yi Luowa pouted, "Actually, Uncle Colin brought me here not because I’m clever, but because I’m the only one bold enough to speak like this. The main reason is, I’m your wife. Whether it’s right or wrong, ultimately, you’ll have to take responsibility alongside Uncle Colin. Despite his rugged exterior, Uncle Colin is actually very detail-oriented!"
Tong Airui burst into laughter. "Wife, Uncle Colin definitely doesn’t want me to share the blame! His intentions are simple—he’s impulsive when making decisions and hopes I’ll help cover the final stages. But you’re right. In this team, no one has stronger connections than you! So, whatever you deduce—even if it’s just a hunch—you need to speak up, and we’ll analyze it together."
Yi Luowa smiled playfully. "Alright, I was being petty. I’ll definitely cooperate with you all."
"The person you mentioned—I’ve noticed them too. The crew is investigating the call Gao Can received moments before his death, trying to trace its origin. Once we identify that person, the case will be clear."
"That’s good. The sooner it’s handled, the better—it’ll ease everyone’s anxiety." Yi Luowa finished the last piece of fruit and stood up. "Eating even a little makes my belly feel bloated."
Tong Airui immediately looked worried and stepped closer. "What should we do? I don’t even dare to massage it."
"It’s fine; I’ll walk around a bit, and it’ll feel better. Luckily, I don’t throw up anymore. Whatever I eat, the two of them absorb." Yi Luowa touched her face. "You say you’ve gained weight, but I’ve also plumped up after staying home these past few months. Husband, if I turned into a little pig, would you still love me?"
"Even if you turned into a big bear, I’d still love you just the same!" Tong Airui laughed as he pinched her cheek. "Take a stroll for a bit. After that, rest in the bedroom. Lunchtime isn’t far off."
"Mm." Yi Luowa gently patted her belly as she paced the room slowly. "Husband, please try not to let the nutritionist and chef bring food directly to me. It doesn’t look great. Let Kou’er pick it up instead."
"Alright, as you wish."
"Husband, who do you think this person is? Could it be the one you mentioned—the Scorpion?"
Tong Airui raised his eyebrows slightly, choosing not to reply.
Yi Luowa gave a knowing smile.
...
Two weeks had passed since Yi Luowa’s transfer, and she hadn’t returned home. Long Che started feeling restless. On Saturday, without even making a phone call, he brought Tong Yao along and drove straight over.
When they arrived at Divine Eagle Courtyard, they learned Yi Luowa was still working overtime. This infuriated Uncle Che, who stormed upstairs.
Fortunately, the gate’s on-duty personnel had informed Tong Airui in advance, allowing him to pull Yi Luowa away from the towering stack of dossiers just in time.
The two had barely stepped out of the meeting room when Long Che came charging up.
Uncle Che glared fiercely at his son before turning his gaze to his daughter-in-law. Thankfully, her face looked rosy and full of energy.
Tong Yao, seeing her daughter-in-law in decent shape, tugged at Long Che. "Whatever you have to say, let’s discuss it in Rui’er’s office."
"Dad~ Let’s talk inside." Yi Luowa cheerfully took Long Che’s arm and led him into the office.
Tong Yao shook her head helplessly and whispered to her son, "How is it going? Don’t overwork Luowa."
Tong Airui embraced his mother’s shoulder and replied with a smile, "Luowa will be done soon. Let’s talk inside."
The four of them entered the office. Yi Luowa brought out the fruit platter she’d kept in the bedroom. "Dad, Mom, this just arrived. Have some while I brew tea."
Long Che looked up at his son. "You don’t even have a staff assistant?"
Yi Luowa clasped her hands behind her back, grinning brightly. "Dad~ The doctor advised me to move around more. Brewing tea doesn’t tire me."
"With a belly this big, try to avoid chores. Just walking is enough exercise." Tong Yao helped her sit down. "When your dad and I weren’t here, I was worried you’d be like this—trying to do everything."
"Alright, I won’t do it anymore." Yi Luowa giggled. "Husband, have Kou’er come in to brew tea for Dad and Mom."
Tong Airui smiled helplessly. "I’ll do it myself; otherwise, the Prime Minister won’t let me off so easily."
"Good to know!" Long Che scoffed at his son. Watching him grab a teacup, he asked sternly, "How far along are things?"
"Ruan Dawang has been captured and is en route."
Long Che frowned, "I heard injuries occurred during his capture?"
"His hundred mercenaries were truly formidable. Later, Old Eight led reinforcements to secure Ruan Dawang." Tong Airui hesitated momentarily. "There’s another matter I want to discuss with you. Please don’t get too worked up when you hear it."
Long Che shot his son a penetrating look. "Some house soldiers from the Laisi Island base were also implicated?"
Tong Airui’s expression darkened. "Not Laisi Island—Conglai Island."
Long Che clenched his fists. The house soldiers trained on Conglai Island were now of high rank! For Audrick’s soldiers to produce such dishonorable people, how could he explain this to the world?
Yi Luowa looked at Long Che apologetically. "Dad, I was the one who uncovered this. At the time, I was conflicted as well. But I felt it was better to handle it according to protocol..."
"You did the right thing with this!" Long Che furrowed his brows slightly. "Who is the person?"
