Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 460 - 398: Take It as a Joke (First Update)
Yi Luowa pursed her lips and smiled, "Let her in, and when you head out, please call Kou’er for me."
The butler responded and left the room.
"Shanshan, I bet she’ll start crying as soon as she comes in. Go inside and rest for a bit, so she doesn’t scare you."
"If there’s no secret to uncover, I’ll stay with you. Two people are always better than one."
"There’s no secret. Her daughter is missing, and Tong Airui has been helping her search for her. She’s probably here about that." Yi Luowa smiled knowingly. She already had a good idea of why Mrs. Ruan had come today and planned to go along with her performance.
Before long, Kou’er came briskly into the room. Yi Luowa leaned close to her ear and whispered a few instructions.
Kou’er nodded repeatedly and dashed up to the third floor, quickly returning soon after.
Just as Kou’er stood beside Yi Luowa, Mrs. Ruan entered the room, led in by the butler.
Seeing the tall and imposing Mrs. Ruan, Yi Luowa finally understood why Ruan Jiajia was so tall—good genes ran in their family!
Suddenly, Yi Luowa felt a pang of worry for her own child. If they inherited her genetics, it could spell trouble! Realizing her thoughts had wandered, Yi Luowa quickly smiled and said, "Mrs. Ruan, please have a seat!"
Mrs. Ruan glanced at Yi Luowa’s stomach, and tears immediately streamed down her face.
"Duchess..." Mrs. Ruan suddenly dropped to her knees with a thud. "Please save my daughter!"
"Mrs. Ruan, what are you doing? Kou’er, quickly help Mrs. Ruan up."
Kou’er promptly helped her to her feet.
Once Mrs. Ruan was seated, Yi Luowa spoke in a low voice, "Your family is facing such a major crisis. I should’ve joined Tong Airui in visiting you and Deputy Captain Ruan, but I almost had a miscarriage back then. These days, I’ve been staying home to recover."
Mrs. Ruan wiped away her tears, choking on her words as she said, "I heard about your near-miscarriage, and it worried me. But they changed posts too hastily, and not long after their departure, Jiajia went missing. I’ve cried so much my eyes are almost blind. I didn’t dare let you see me in such a state."
Yi Luowa rolled her eyes inwardly—so why aren’t you afraid to let me see you now!
"Mrs. Ruan, you must try to stay calm. Tong Airui has never stopped searching for Ruan Jiajia and has dispatched the people from Sharp Blade to help."
"Ah... It’s impossible not to be distressed. But still, I must thank Duke Airui." Mrs. Ruan pressed her lips together, her gaze falling on Yi Luowa’s stomach. "I heard that if it weren’t for that negligent nurse who made a mistake in the report, you wouldn’t have suffered so much."
Yi Luowa raised her eyes to look at Mrs. Ruan. Getting to the point already!
"Oh, exactly. Tong Airui was furious back then and immediately confined her. Thankfully, the baby is fine."
Mrs. Ruan, filled with indignation, exclaimed, "People these days! I don’t know how they manage to do their jobs! Confinement is far too lenient!"
Yi Luowa frowned slightly. "It’s not entirely her fault. I went in early that day, and she was the only person in the lab. There was also an emergency case that day. Tong Airui looked into it—there were two urine cups in the lab at the time, and she got flustered and made the mistake."
Mrs. Ruan gave Yi Luowa a deep, searching look.
Yi Luowa greeted her with a smile, one of those harmless, baby-like grins.
Mrs. Ruan pressed her lips together, a flicker of hesitation flashing through her eyes. "Duchess, you’re truly magnanimous. If it were me, I wouldn’t have let her off the hook so easily!"
Seeing the gritted determination on Mrs. Ruan’s face, Yi Luowa gently stroked her lower abdomen. "For the sake of the child, we mothers should practice forgiveness. It’s better for the child’s growth."
"The Duchess is right!" Mrs. Ruan instantly replaced her expression with a smile. "I brought you some supplements. I hope you’ll accept them. Once the Duke returns, I ask that you bring up Jiajia’s situation with him. These past few days..."
As Mrs. Ruan continued speaking, tears poured down her face once more. Yi Luowa glanced at Kou’er, who handed her a tissue. "Mrs. Ruan, wipe your tears. During this time, Sister Luowa has mentioned Dr. Ruan multiple times to the Duke. The Duke has assured us that he’ll help you find Dr. Ruan as soon as possible."
"Duchess, truly, thank you so much!"
Mrs. Ruan stood up and took a step toward Yi Luowa, who suddenly furrowed her brows.
"Sister Luowa, what’s wrong?" Kou’er quickly stepped between Mrs. Ruan and Yi Luowa.
"Fourth Sister!" Jimo Shanshan pulled Yi Luowa’s hand and placed two fingers over her wrist. "Are you feeling a bit dizzy and short of breath?"
"Yes." Yi Luowa replied, frowning.
"You need to rest properly." Jimo Shanshan sighed.
