Chapter 355: Chapter 316: It’s Great if You Can Leave the Operating Room! (Three Updates)

"The eighth will be fine!" Yi Luowa whispered softly in his ear.

Tong Airui froze for a moment, then gripped her hand tightly.

Her hand ached from his grip, but Yi Luowa’s pain wasn’t in her hand—it was in her heart. His reaction confirmed her guess!

The eighth was injured! And it wasn’t light!

Tong Airui shut his eyes tightly, suppressing his tears with great effort. His crying wasn’t merely sorrow for the eighth, but also an indictment of himself. He blamed himself for not taking proper care of his younger brother—if something happened to Xuanxuan, how would he face his family?

An abdominal open wound—can that even be saved?

Their hands remained tightly clasped. Yi Luowa gazed at her aunt’s back, feeling a strange, indescribable ache within her. If her aunt discovered the eighth had been hurt, how devastated would she be?

Yan Zi had only napped for a short while before waking with a jolt from a nightmare, her eyes snapping open in terror.

Mi Xiaotian reached out and patted her shoulder. "A bad dream?"

"Xiaotian, I just dreamed about Xuanxuan. He was covered in blood, trapped in a dark little room, endlessly shouting for me to save him." Yan Zi gripped Mi Xiaotian’s hand tightly. "Xuanxuan won’t be in trouble, right?"

Mi Xiaotian chuckled. "Dreams are always the opposite of reality. Didn’t Rui’er already tell you Xuanxuan will be fine?"

Tong Airui’s body stiffened suddenly. At that moment, he didn’t even dare to open his eyes; he couldn’t bring himself to look at his aunt.

Yan Zi glanced back at Tong Airui and saw that he was still "sleeping," so she didn’t say anything further.

Yi Luowa pursed her lips. "Auntie, Uncle is right, dreams are reversed reflections of reality. Take another nap. We’ll be home soon."

Yan Zi nodded slightly. "You should take a nap too."

Yi Luowa responded softly and closed her eyes. Mother and child—that special bond had already made her aunt sense it, even though she didn’t know precisely what had occurred. That bond, pulling at her, where did it lead?

Tong Airui "slept" all the way through the flight. As soon as the plane touched down, he opened his eyes and whispered to Yi Luowa, "Go home with Mom and Dad. As soon as I get any news, I’ll inform you immediately. For now, don’t let anyone find out."

Without waiting for her reply, Tong Airui grabbed Mai Zekai and hurried off the plane.

Shanshan was quick in reaction too, following closely behind them and disembarking alongside.

Tong Yao watched Yi Luowa suspiciously. "Luowa, Rui’er didn’t say who was hurt?"

"He did, but it’s someone who’s been working closely with him for years. He told me the name, but I haven’t memorized it yet." Yi Luowa scratched her head apologetically. "Mom, you head down first; I have to help Uncle."

Yi Luowa fled. She was terrified her mother-in-law would keep asking and expose her falsehoods. The mother-in-law was a renowned elite in the police force—a sharp-eyed detective!

Yi Luowa ran toward Yi Weiyang’s seat. Just as she was about to assist him, Yi Weiyang smiled and said, "I can do it myself. Sitting on the plane for so long, I can still manage."

Yi Luowa pursed her lips stubbornly, insisting on supporting him. "Uncle, come stay at our place tonight; you can head to the manor tomorrow!"

Yi Weiyang shook his head. "Huo Li said she’d come pick me up, so I’ll go back. You’ve all been exhausted these past few days—if I tagged along, you wouldn’t rest properly."

Yi Luowa brushed her arm against his apologetically. "So much happened recently that I couldn’t take proper care of you. If Huo Li found out, she’d definitely reprimand me again."

"You might not have cared for me, but someone took your place—Connie. That girl’s been by my side constantly these last few days." Yi Weiyang smiled. "Our family is fortunate; Luowa, you’ve met a lot of good people."

Looking at Connie approaching them, Yi Luowa grinned. "Connie, thank you so much."

Connie pressed her lips into a smile. "What thanks? We’re family."

The two laughed with one another as they helped Yi Weiyang down from the plane. Waiting outside the airport, Huo Li and Joyina ran over.

"You finally returned! Following Huo Li around these days has been like floating aimlessly like a ghost." Joyina laughed heartily.

Tong Yao stroked her hair gently. "We asked you to come along, but you refused. Now you know how dull it was?"

Joyina pouted lightly. "Uh-huh. Auntie, did you see anyone from our family there?"

"Prime Minister Qin Sen came. We even chatted briefly."

Joyina fiddled with her fingers. "Did he mention my mom?"

"He did. Said your mom’s health isn’t too good. Do you want to go back and visit her?" Tong Yao asked, recalling Qin Sen’s advice.

Joyina paused momentarily, then hugged Tong Yao’s arm enthusiastically. "Auntie, you get in the car first; I’m going to help grandpa and grandma."

Seeing her dart off, Tong Yao shook her head resignedly. After exchanging brief greetings, Huo Li walked straight to Yi Weiyang. Without lifting her head, she said, "You’re back."

Yi Weiyang’s gaze drifted to the side as he quietly replied, "Mm."

Yi Luowa glanced between Huo Li and her uncle—what was going on with these two? They didn’t even meet eyes when talking.

Huo Li pursed her lips. "The car’s waiting outside. Let’s go home."

"Mm," Yi Weiyang responded again.

Yi Luowa tugged Huo Li’s hand. "What’s going on between you and Uncle?"

"Ask him yourself! Always picking on me!" Huo Li grabbed her suitcase from Uncle Li and marched stubbornly toward the parking lot.

Suspicious, Yi Luowa asked, "Uncle, did you really scold her?"

Yi Weiyang cast a downward glance at Yi Luowa. "Mistakes warrant correction. Just because you’re married doesn’t mean I won’t admonish you if you mess up."

Yi Luowa puckered her lips. "I’m so well-behaved, there’s no way I’d give you any reason to scold me. Talk things over with Huo Li when we get home; don’t let her sulk all day. It’s such a buzzkill to look at!"

Uncle Li chuckled. "No big deal. Just a child throwing a tantrum—it’ll pass."

Yi Weiyang furrowed his brows slightly. This wasn’t just Huo Li throwing a tantrum this time.

After exchanging greetings with Long Che and Tong Yao, Yi Weiyang got into his own car with Huo Li and left the airport first.

Meanwhile, Yi Luowa’s group was large, with baggage aplenty. By the time they arrived home, night had fallen.

Upon returning home, Yi Luowa didn’t let go of her phone, occasionally glancing at it even during dinner.

After dinner, Long Che pulled her into his study. Before he could even begin questioning, Yi Luowa’s heart had already started racing in panic.

"Something happened to Xuanxuan, didn’t it?" Long Che asked directly.

Yi Luowa tightened her lips, looking back at Long Che.

"Seems like Xuanxuan really is hurt!" Long Che frowned, pulling out his phone to call Tong Airui.

At that moment, Tong Airui was in the midst of chastising a group in the hospital hallway. The six or so people standing there dared not speak, heads bowed silently as he scolded them. It was undeniable—they’d messed up. During the mission, they had assured Tong Airui that Mi Chenxuan wouldn’t suffer even the slightest harm. Yet now, they were unharmed, but Mi Chenxuan had sustained serious injuries.

"A bunch of useless trash. All these years wasted training you..." Just then, Long Che’s call came through. Tong Airui glanced at the number hesitantly, then answered.

Long Che asked gravely, "What’s Xuanxuan’s condition? Is it serious?"

With a glance toward the operating room, Tong Airui answered, "Dad, I’m sorry. I failed to protect the eighth. He’s seriously injured—an abdominal open wound. Both Lao Qi and Shanshan are in the operating room now. Before going in, they assured me they’d save him."

"Nonsense!" Long Che sank onto the sofa. "You promised me the same thing, and Xuanxuan still ended up hurt!"

"Dad, I’m sorry..."

"I don’t want to hear those three words. Instead, think about how you’ll explain this to your aunt!" Long Che barked furiously. "Which hospital?"

"Royal Hospital."

With a sharp snap, Long Che ended the call. Turning to see Yi Luowa sobbing uncontrollably, he grumbled, "Look at you, crying! I haven’t even scolded you yet!"

Yi Luowa sniffled tearfully, "I feel bad for the eighth and my husband."

"Tong Airui brought this upon himself! Not worth pitying! I told him before—Xuanxuan’s still young; there’s no rush to push him forward. But he insisted on having him shine early. Now his good intentions backfire..." Seeing Yi Luowa’s anguish, Long Che choked back the rest of his reprimand.

Yi Luowa wiped her tears. "Dad, Tong Airui cried the whole flight. His stress is enormous right now. If the eighth really doesn’t make it, I think he’ll break down."

With a sigh, Long Che muttered, "When’s your aunt leaving?"

"Auntie said she’ll head off after dinner. She should be leaving soon."

"After she’s gone, you’ll go to the hospital with me. For now, let’s keep this from her and hope the eighth pulls through."

"The eighth will definitely be okay!" Yi Luowa sniffled. "Should we tell Mom?"

Long Che glanced toward the doorway. "Your Mom’s listening from outside."

Responding promptly, Tong Yao stepped into the room, grumbling. "You knew someone was eavesdropping, yet you didn’t lower your voice."

"The only one daring enough to eavesdrop outside my study is you!" Long Che frowned. "Your son caused this mess; figure out how to handle it yourself!"

Tong Yao shot him a glare. "Yan Zi and Xiaotian just left, and Mom and Uncle have gone to rest. Let’s head to the hospital and see what’s happening."

With those words, Tong Yao exited the room.

The three of them quickly reached the hospital. Tong Airui saw them arrive and came forward briskly.

Long Che, about to rebuke him, faltered upon seeing his son’s pale face. He couldn’t bring himself to scold him further—his heart ached too much to add to his burden.

"Honey, why is your face so pale?!" Yi Luowa was startled.

"I’m fine; I just donated blood for the eighth," Tong Airui replied with a slight frown. "The nurse just came out. I asked for an update—they said the eighth should be out of surgery in about two hours."

Long Che let out a long sigh of relief. Coming out of surgery—that’s what mattered!
