Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 338 - 304: Waiting to Wear This Next Time I Get Married (Third Shift)
Just as Tong Airui was stuck in a predicament, news came from Dapeng.
It turned out that Yi Lingfei had registered to participate in the selection competition for the WS pop group in Country H before the incident occurred. At the time, she wasn’t yet eighteen, so she had used an ID under the name Li Yafei to register, which is why her overseas travel records couldn’t be traced.
As for how she avoided being spotted by the surveillance personnel and left the neighborhood—that could only be described as a chain of coincidences. On the day she received a call from the WS group, it was pouring heavily. The two people on stakeout had gone into a nearby café to evade the rain, and she used a ride-hailing app to call a taxi, boarding it right in front of the building entrance.
Everything had clear evidence. Dapeng restored and sent Yi Lingfei’s call records and surveillance footage from ages ago over to Tong Airui.
Tong Airui pondered for a moment, then glanced at Yuan Hang. "Send two people to investigate. I want to know who she’s interacted with after arriving in Country H."
"Understood!" Yuan Hang acknowledged but didn’t move.
Tong Airui lifted his gaze toward him. "Anything else?"
"Yi Lingfei’s situation has already been clarified. Are we still in a rush to return? You haven’t had a decent sleep in days. How about skipping the paperwork tonight and getting a good rest?"
"No rest! Time is tight for me. I need to wrap things up here quickly and hurry back to draft a plan for strategizing between the Shen Ying unit and the regular military forces."
Yuan Hang glanced at Tong Airui’s stern expression, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly. "The exercise isn’t until the second half of the year. Just admit you miss your wife—I promise I won’t laugh."
Tong Airui’s lips curved slightly. "You guessed it—I do miss my wife. If you’re so capable, why don’t you find one for yourself?"
Yuan Hang snorted disdainfully. "When I find a wife, I certainly won’t be as silly as you, plastering her name all over my mouth, wishing I could drag her around with me everywhere I go."
Tong Airui chuckled, "Tong Aino said the same thing. He claimed he wouldn’t stoop to my level, but now he’s even worse than I am. Remember this: if you ever get yourself a wife, don’t mention her in front of me, or I’ll mock you so badly."
"Relax, that day will never come." Yuan Hang said, turning to leave the room.
Tong Airui smirked slightly. When the time comes, everyone will know who’s actually stubborn. And who feels the sting, well... only they’ll understand.
Tong Airui pulled up his computer and glanced at the speech draft his secretary had sent over. He was set to give a talk soon. Lately, his mind had been plagued with thoughts that startled him—such as retiring early. This lifestyle was beginning to wear him down.
Just as Tong Airui managed to push this troubling thought away, the words on the screen morphed into an image of Yi Luowa. She was speaking to him, telling him she missed him, begging him to come home.
Tong Airui reached out to touch the screen, but the face that had captivated his soul instantly reverted back to cold, unfeeling text.
Tong Airui raked his fingers through his short hair and tugged forcefully. "Honey, once you graduate, I swear I’ll have you by my side at all times. Otherwise, I’m going to lose my mind."
Fourth Brother was missing his wife, and his dear wife was missing him right back. Daytime was bearable, filled with conversations and laughter that passed quickly enough. But come nighttime, Yi Luowa couldn’t sleep.
Tonight, she’d finally managed to drift off, only to wake herself up by falling off the bed. She threw a fit over it, lying on the floor crying for half an hour.
Back then, Tong Airui had advised her: "Put pillows along the bed’s edge when you sleep, so you don’t fall off." She’d brushed him off as nagging—see now! Wasn’t this what happens? 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Teng Ai Ni couldn’t sleep either. Ever since she and You Jia got engaged, he’d been sleeping beside her every night. Without him there and missing his familiar scent, her eyes burned from staring wide open, and still, she couldn’t fall asleep.
Teng Ai Ni scratched her head vigorously, slipped on her slippers, and left the room.
Fifth Brother is cuddling up with Fifth Sister-in-law—definitely won’t have time to deal with her. Better to find Sister-in-law instead. Teng Ai Ni wandered like a ghost to Yi Luowa’s room and reached out to press the doorbell.
Upon hearing the doorbell, Yi Luowa leapt up from the floor. Like, who would visit so late? Could it be Tong Airui back already?
Yi Luowa pouted. He’d said when leaving it’d take twenty days; it had only been fourteen. There’s no way he could be back already.
"Coming~" Yi Luowa wiped her tears, bare-footed, and opened the door—no one in sight! Could she have imagined it?
"Haha..." Teng Ai Ni’s laughter echoed from the hallway. Yi Luowa peeked out to see Teng Ai Ni furiously ringing the doorbell to Tong Aino’s bedroom.
"Hurry back before your Fifth Brother comes out to give you a hard time!" Yi Luowa called softly.
Teng Ai Ni pressed the doorbell once more before running over.
"What are you up to now?!" Yi Luowa asked, amused.
"Bored, I couldn’t sleep—came to chat with you," Teng Ai Ni replied, only now noticing Yi Luowa’s red eyes. "You miss my brother so much you cried?"
"Nope. Fell off the bed and cried out of anger." Yi Luowa returned to her bed, pulling the blanket up. "Come on—don’t let yourself get cold."
Teng Ai Ni climbed in beside her, laughing. "You seriously couldn’t sleep still? My brother must wake up a thousand times a night from your kicking."
"Sleeping with him makes even turning over a struggle," Yi Luowa sniffled. "You also..."
"Ding-dong..." Before she finished her sentence, the doorbell sounded again.
Teng Ai Ni laughed, "My Fifth Brother came to scold me."
Yi Luowa laughed as she climbed out of bed. "I’ll go deal with him."
As soon as the door opened, Connie squeezed inside. Without hesitation, she locked the door behind her.
"Hahaha..." Teng Ai Ni, lying on the bed, burst out laughing. "Fifth Sister, why are you wearing my Fifth Brother’s pajamas and running about?"
"Only in his clothes can I sneak out." Connie replied casually, and quickly climbed into the bed. "Tonight, I’m staying here too."
Teng Ai Ni lifted up Connie’s pajama shirt, grinning.
Connie immediately grabbed her hand. "What are you doing?!"
"Checking if you remembered underwear or came rushing out. Haha..." Teng Ai Ni laughed.
Yi Luowa chuckled at the two. "I bet Tong Lao Wu’s going to be pounding on the door any second."
Connie pulled the blanket over herself. "Don’t open for him—take the batteries out of the doorbell so it buzzes all it wants for nothing."
"That’s brutal!" Teng Ai Ni laughed. "Looks like you’ve been bullied hard by my Fifth Brother."
Yi Luowa suppressed a smile, climbing in at the foot of the bed.
Teng Ai Ni pulled out her phone and said to the others, "I’ve sketched out several wedding dress designs—saved them on my phone. Take a look and tell me if anything needs modifying."
"How did you find time for wedding dresses amidst everything lately?" Yi Luowa leaned in.
"Whenever You Jia was handling work, I’d draw out of boredom. Sis even sent over a few designs from her end." Teng Ai Ni passed the phone to Yi Luowa.
Yi Luowa handed it to Connie, saying, "Let Fifth Sister look first—I’m not in a rush for a wedding."
"Let’s look together—while I’m free, I’ll make dresses for both of you."
"I regret getting engaged—I’m in no rush for marriage either," Connie sniffled. "It’s exhausting—I’ve been napping at my office these days. Tell me, can this really be considered normal living?"
Yi Luowa, laughing, snatched the phone. "Don’t take your blessings for granted. If you were like me and Ai Ni—rarely getting to see your partner—you’d be even more upset. I’ll look—can’t let Ai Ni’s or Sis’ work go unseen."
Connie pouted. "A few days later, I head to Laiman—for a change of pace."
Teng Ai Ni struggled to suppress her grin and sneaked a glance at her.
Connie shot back a glare. "Feel free to laugh—for your turn’s coming soon... Oh, right—I forgot to tell you. While heading out, I saw Joyina enter Third Brother’s room. You think something might happen between them?"
"Joyina’s still young." Yi Luowa, flipping through pictures, murmured, "I honestly don’t see much chemistry there. Third Brother’s too scarred—I doubt he’ll bounce back anytime soon."
"Ding-dong..." went the doorbell again.
The three exchanged glances, then resumed chatting and perusing images as if unconcerned.
The doorbell kept ringing. Yi Luowa nudged Connie, "Connie, your Fifth Brother’s pretty determined. You’d best go back."
Connie shook her head. "Not going back! Sister-in-law, look at this dress—it’d look stunning on you."
"I think they all look great. Maybe I’ll have them all made and save the extras for my next wedding..."
With a sudden "bang," the door was pushed open, leaving the three stunned.
"Yi Luowa, say what you just said, one more time!" Tong Airui’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
Yi Luowa froze, too shocked to react. By the time she snapped out of it, Tong Airui was already beside the bed.
"Ah—! Honey, why are you back!" Yi Luowa jumped up, directly throwing herself into Tong Airui’s arms.
Tong Airui caught her firmly, his brows furrowing. "Now what were you just saying?"
Yi Luowa tilted her head, grinning. "I said I’d have Ai Ni make all the dresses for me—next life, next-next life, I’ll wear them to marry you again."
"Is that really what you said?" Tong Airui smiled indulgently.
"If you don’t believe me, ask Ai Ni and Connie... Hey! What are you two doing!? Didn’t you agree to sleep here tonight?" Yi Luowa protested, noticing her two "witnesses" quietly sneaking out the door.
"You Jia’s here—waiting outside for Ai Ni. Tong Aino too—he said he’s been pressing the doorbell forever and you won’t open. Something wrong with the bell?"
"It’s working fine—just wasn’t planning to answer." Yi Luowa said, her smile sparkling as she called after Teng Ai Ni. "Take it slow! No need to rush now that they’re here!"
"You two were being so lovey-dovey I couldn’t stand it!" Teng Ai Ni giggled as she dashed out.
You Jia smiled at her.
Teng Ai Ni beamed up. "I’d love to jump into your arms like Sister-in-law did, but I’m afraid you wouldn’t catch me."
"Why not give it a try?" You Jia opened his arms wide with a grin.
Tong Aino glanced scornfully before shoving You Jia aside and grabbing Connie, who was leisurely trailing out. "Getting bolder, huh? Learned to sneak off? Come back with me—I’ll show you how I’ll handle you!"
"Hahaha..." Teng Ai Ni burst into laughter, pointing at Tong Aino’s outfit.
