Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 301 - 275: The Troublesome Little Swindler (Three More)
"She didn’t show up!" Yi Luowa’s heart jumped into her throat. "What did she say when she left?"
"She said you could call her and tell her to meet you in the capital. I sent a car to drop her off. The driver said he delivered her to the café you specified before heading back."
"Second Uncle, she tricked you. I forgot to ask for her number that day. How could I call her without her phone number?" Yi Luowa frowned. "Don’t worry, give me her number, and I’ll find her myself."
Yi Weiyang quickly went to Huo Li to get the phone number and handed it to Yi Luowa.
Pressing her lips tightly, Yi Luowa forcefully tapped the screen to dial the eleven-digit number.
Tong Airui’s mouth twitched slightly, "Why are you tapping with such strength? You’re going to break your finger."
"I’m imagining the phone is her face—the face of that troublesome little liar!" Yi Luowa finished stabbing the eleven digits and held the phone to her ear, anxiously waiting.
The first call connected but was immediately hung up.
Yi Luowa dialed again.
The second call was hung up again.
Yi Luowa was so furious she kept rubbing her chest in anger.
Tong Airui saw how enraged she was and quickly intervened, "I’ll send someone to look for her. Don’t stress yourself over it."
Yi Luowa exhaled and composed a text message to send to Joyina.
This time, Joyina responded quickly.
Yi Luowa read the text and furiously tossed the phone to Tong Airui, "She said she’s working overtime! That little liar!"
"Overtime?" Tong Airui chuckled helplessly, glancing at the message. "Don’t be mad. I’ll have Dapeng track her location."
Dapeng’s tracking results came through fast. The couple stared at Joyina’s listed location, nearly dropping their jaws.
Aldrich Tower!
What on earth was she doing there?
"Is Third Brother working overtime today?" Yi Luowa suddenly had a suspicion and turned to look at Tong Airui.
"I have no idea. He hasn’t been home these past few days."
"I bet she’s with Third Brother now. That little crazy girl could easily pull something like this."
Tong Airui picked up the phone and called Mi Chenshuo. Mi Chenshuo was utterly confused, replying, "I am working overtime, but who’s Joyina? There’s no one by that name here."
"The short girl who took a photo with you that day," Tong Airui said impatiently. "I tracked her location, and she’s in our family’s building. Check on her and let her know King Muta is inviting her to the palace for a banquet."
Mi Chenshuo jotted down the name "Joyina" on a sticky note. "What’s her deal? Why would Uncle Muta invite her to the palace?"
"The Beidi Princess!" Tong Airui teased, "You and Old Five sure are something! Running a company so big you even hired a princess to work here."
Mi Chenshuo let out a wry laugh. "I have no idea I’m hosting a bigshot here. Alright, I’ll look into it."
After hanging up, Mi Chenshuo called his secretary over. "Check if there’s a new hire in the company named Joyina."
The secretary came back quickly. "Boss, we don’t have anyone by that name."
Mi Chenshuo propped his head on his hand and tried recalling what was distinct about the short girl who took the photo with him that day. "Red hair, blue eyes, height around my chest—roughly 165 cm."
The secretary thought for a moment. "There aren’t any redheads, but three or four employees have blue eyes. Should I summon them all?"
"Yes. Bring them over."
The secretary hurriedly left the room and began searching through departments for staff with blue eyes. Meanwhile, at the copier, Joyina was yawning repeatedly while waiting for her files to print. She didn’t react at all when the department head called out "Qiao Nan."
"Qiao Nan, the head is calling you!" A middle-aged woman walked over and nudged her.
Joyina rubbed her eyes, "Why the rush? I haven’t finished printing!"
"Just go—I’ll finish printing the rest for you."
Joyina thanked her profusely and dashed out.
The department head spoke in a stern voice, "Run immediately to the boss’s office."
Joyina pouted. Fine, go! But why running? Though, the thought of seeing Mi Chenshuo made her slightly more inclined.
Mi Chenshuo meticulously examined the four women standing before him, finally settling his gaze on Joyina. "Qiao Nan?"
Joyina waved cheerfully at him.
"Qiao Nan stays; the others may leave." Once the other employees exited, Mi Chenshuo walked over slowly and circled around Joyina.
Feeling unnerved, Joyina’s glances followed his movements nervously.
"Weren’t you a redhead? How did it turn yellow?" Mi Chenshuo asked in a low tone.
"Switched up my image," Joyina grinned sheepishly. "Isn’t this cuter?"
"How did you sneak in here?" Mi Chenshuo frowned.
Joyina wrinkled her nose with a huff. "What do you mean, sneak? I was officially employed and entered fair and square."
"Aren’t you called Joyina?" Mi Chenshuo raised an eyebrow.
Joyina pouted. "Qiao Nan is the name I used previously. The passport with Joyina had my age listed as eighteen. Since you don’t hire minors, I had to use that passport!"
"Sounds like you have quite a few passports," Mi Chenshuo said with a chuckle.
Joyina sniffled. "When you’re a fugitive like me, a couple of passports are essential!"
Mi Chenshuo studied her intensely. He was aware of the Beidi situation. For this little one to survive seven or eight years on the run was nothing short of a miracle.
"Pack your things and come with me."
Joyina eyed him suspiciously. "Where are you taking me?"
Mi Chenshuo chuckled, "To a shelter. I don’t hire child laborers."
"I’m not child labor! I’ll be eighteen in just a few months. Seriously! Plus, the passport under Qiao Nan already lists me as eighteen!" After her protest, seeing no reaction from Mi Chenshuo, she turned and bolted out.
Oof!
In her haste, she bumped straight into a tall man.
Rubbing her forehead, Joyina glared at the giant.
Mi SanSi smiled. "This way, Princess."
"I’m not leaving! I want to keep working here!" Joyina clung to the door handle desperately, refusing to let go.
"Third Master..." Mi SanSi turned to Mi Chenshuo.
Mi Chenshuo frowned at the stubborn Joyina. "King Muta has invited you to a banquet. I’ll send you to Luowa first, and then she’ll accompany you to the palace."
Joyina hesitated but still didn’t release the handle. She tilted her head toward Mi Chenshuo. "After the palace visit, can I come back to work here?"
"Let’s see how you behave." This girl was just a big kid. Intelligence-wise, she might even lose to Yak. Mi Chenshuo decided to coax her away first—once in Yi Luowa’s hands, things would be easier.
Joyina blinked her blue eyes thoughtfully. "I’ll definitely do well. Let’s go then."
Joyina was tricked into the Duke’s residence. Seeing all her people gathered in the yard, she was furious. "Why are all of you here?"
"I let them out." Tong Airui and Yi Luowa emerged hand in hand.
Joyina shot him a contemptuous look. "You’re so untrustworthy. I hate it!"
Yi Luowa laughed warmly. "We did this for your own good. Tomorrow you’ll go to the palace. If a princess doesn’t have anyone by her side, people will mock you—they might even think Beidi has no one left."
"Beidi already has no one left. They’ve all died in battle." Joyina pouted before turning to her subordinates. "I found a great job here in Xiawu. I’m never going back to Beidi. Go back and tell my dad I’ve gone into exile again."
"Princess—" The dozens of subordinates begged her earnestly.
"If you still see me as your princess, listen to me. After tomorrow’s palace visit, you all leave. My monthly salary is only a little over 3,000. I can’t afford to feed all of you."
Yi Luowa was amused and exasperated by her response.
Joyina pouted, "Luowa Sis, I was working overtime and missed dinner. I’m starving."
"Your boss is so stingy!" Yi Luowa laughed, glancing at Mi Chenshuo.
Mi Chenshuo smiled wryly. Even overtime shifts included meals—he had no idea how she hadn’t eaten.
Tong Yao stepped outside, smiling. "I heard from my room that our little princess is starving. Why haven’t you come in yet? We’ve prepared plenty of delicious food for you."
Joyina lit up at the mention of food, bounding over happily. "Mrs. Aldrich, thank you for your hospitality."
"It’s no trouble at all. I enjoy lively gatherings. Come on in." Tong Yao took her hand and led her inside.
Seeing Yi Luowa following them, Mi Chenshuo quickly called out to her, lowering his voice. "I’m entrusting her to you. Make sure she doesn’t return to work at my place!"
Yi Luowa chuckled. "Why? Having a princess working for you is quite prestigious!"
"This princess is nothing like Connie..."
Connie walked out laughing. "Go inside quickly. That little rascal is making a scene. She went straight for the food, and your uncle is sitting there watching her eat like his eyes are about to pop out."
