Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 289 - 265: What’s so good-looking! (Third update)_2
"Shi Qing’s call..." Tong Airui was just about to explain when his phone rang again.
Tong Airui glanced at it and saw Ni Lu’s number. His thumb hovered between answering and rejecting the call.
Yi Luowa reached out and tapped the answer button, then immediately distanced herself, retreating far away from him.
Tong Airui shot her a sidelong glance, helplessly bringing the phone to his ear. "Auntie, what’s the matter?"
"Airui, have you gotten home yet?" Shi Qing’s voice came through on the other end.
Tong Airui’s brows furrowed instantly. "I’m busy right now. If there’s nothing urgent, I’m hanging up."
Shi Qing sobbed and said, "Airui, I know you still hate me, but I’ve already been punished. Can’t you forgive me?"
"I never hated you, so there’s no question of forgiveness. If that’s all you want to say, I’ll hang up now."
"Airui, I just wanted to tell you... I wish you and Luowa happiness. On your engagement day, I... I took the wrong medication and didn’t have time to tell you. Today, after seeing Uncle and Auntie, I mustered up the courage to say this."
"..." Tong Airui reached out and pulled Yi Luowa into his embrace, signaling Dapeng to start driving.
"Airui, are you listening to me?" Shi Qing asked anxiously.
"Mm." Tong Airui replied impatiently, then casually turned on the speakerphone and placed his phone in the cup holder.
"Airui, I only realized after getting hurt that some things are destined, and there’s no point in forcing what isn’t. I sincerely bless you and Sister-in-law..."
Shi Qing kept rambling on, but Tong Airui wasn’t listening at all. Yi Luowa gave him a push. Tong Airui raised an eyebrow slightly, and before she could scold him, he leaned over and kissed her lips.
"Airui! Airui!?" Ni Lu’s voice came through the phone.
Yi Luowa used all her strength to push Tong Airui away. Tong Airui laughed and pinched her flushed cheeks before picking up the phone. "Auntie, I suggest you hire a psychologist for Shi Qing."
"You noticed that too?" Ni Lu said, her voice tinged with tears.
Tong Airui let out a small noise of agreement.
Ni Lu sighed. "Your parents came by today. Shi Qing lost control and cried for a long time. After they left, she became like this."
"It’s my parents meddling again!" Tong Airui said unhappily.
Ni Lu paused for a moment before saying, "You brat, I’m already frantic, and you’re blaming me instead!"
"I’m not blaming you. I know you didn’t mean any harm. It’s just that I think they went too far. Auntie, don’t worry. Shi Qing is stronger inside than any of us. You find a psychologist to help her, and she’ll recover quickly."
"I hope so." Ni Lu hung up with a heavy heart.
Tong Airui looked down at Yi Luowa, who wore a displeased expression. He patted her head and said, "It’s not that I’m heartless or stingy. Shi Qing is unstable right now. Everything she says is in reverse. If I give her even the slightest bit of hope, she’ll blow it up tenfold or a hundredfold in her mind. I don’t want any trouble—it’ll only harm our relationship."
Yi Luowa pursed her lips. "I’m not pitying her."
"I know. You’re pitying Auntie Ni Lu."
"Airui..."
"Hmm?" Tong Airui pinched her cheek with mild annoyance.
Yi Luowa pouted. "Honey, if Shi Qing is out and surrounded by people, how could anyone dare lay a hand on her?"
"Desperate people are everywhere. Can we change the subject?"
Yi Luowa cast a glance at him. "Tomorrow, I’m going to the factory."
"Mm."
"Tonight, I need to research materials."
"Until what time?"
"Midnight."
"No way!"
"No way, no channel switch! Shi Qing... mmmph..."
Tong Airui silenced her with a kiss, laughing all the while. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
With such a restless man around, her research naturally didn’t get done. The next day, Yi Luowa slept until late morning, only to find no one around to scold. A note was left on the bedside table, informing her that he had gone out for inspections and would be back in the afternoon, and that there was food in a thermal container in the kitchen.
Yi Luowa crawled out of bed, ate, and was about to head out when Kou’er came running over. "Luowa, where are you going?"
"To the factory." Yi Luowa glanced around. Ever since she returned last night, she hadn’t seen Bandit. She had asked Tong Airui about the parrot’s whereabouts, and he had said it was under the grape arbor. Before she could check, he had swept her upstairs. Now, after thoroughly searching the yard, there was no trace of Bandit.
"Kou’er, where’s Bandit?"
Kou’er whispered, "Master took it away. He said it might wake you up."
Yi Luowa pouted. He was even jealous of a parrot!
Yi Luowa got into the car and soon arrived at the factory. After examining the workers’ progress, she smiled and said, "You’ve all outdone yourselves! Once these three cars are completed, I’ll treat everyone to a meal. You can pick the place."
"It’s just our job." An older worker chuckled. "We wouldn’t dare let the team leader’s wife treat us."
"You must! Otherwise, I’ll feel bad." Yi Luowa patted the car in its early stages and said, "Let’s adjust our approach. You’ve been working overtime too much. Let’s finish King Muta’s car first, then my dad’s, and save Tong Airui’s for last."
"The team leader has added more people, and we’re working in shifts, so it hasn’t been too exhausting. We can follow the blueprints for the other two cars, but there are parts of the team leader’s car that require handwork. We didn’t dare touch those."
"Leave the handwork to me. I’ll be coming by often from now on." Yi Luowa said this while putting on gloves and throwing herself into work with enthusiasm.
In the afternoon, Tong Airui returned. After changing into work clothes, he joined in as well.
Yi Luowa was using a small hammer to work on a piece of metal. Worried he might disrupt things, she assigned him another task to prevent him from chasing away the workers again.
Tong Airui laughed. Whatever his wife told him to do, he did, to avoid her bringing up last night and lecturing him.
After a while, Tong Airui took over her task and stood beside Yi Luowa to work alongside her.
Yi Luowa glanced at him, and Tong Airui said loudly, "I visited Sha Xuan today!"
Yi Luowa immediately stopped. "How is he?"
Tong Airui drooped his mouth and shot her a sidelong glance. "If I hadn’t mentioned Sha Xuan, you wouldn’t have asked about me at all!"
"Fine, don’t tell me. I’ll get back to work." Yi Luowa picked up her small hammer and resumed tapping.
"He’s doing well. He’s gotten darker, thinner, and less mischievous than before."
Yi Luowa laughed. "It’s good that he’s doing well. I’d really like to see him in uniform."
"He doesn’t look as good in uniform as I do!" Tong Airui snorted after saying this.
Yi Luowa burst into laughter. "Oh, give it a rest! Why are you competing with Sha Xuan?"
Tong Airui said dejectedly, "Lately, your attention on me is getting shorter and shorter. I must occasionally remind you: your husband is the most handsome!"
"You don’t need to remind me—I know that." Yi Luowa giggled. "Shall we work late together tonight?"
Tong Airui raised an eyebrow slightly, his gaze falling to her chest as he smiled. "Sure! It’s rare for you to be so proactive. Tell me how late you want to work, and I’ll join you."
Yi Luowa waved the small hammer in front of his face. "Are you getting the wrong idea again? I meant work here!"
"No way! You still have classes tomorrow." Tong Airui immediately refused upon realizing her ’work late’ wasn’t what he had in mind.
Yi Luowa pouted.
Tong Airui was about to say more when Dapeng ran in, whispered something in his ear, and his expression instantly darkened. Throwing down his tools, he strode out of the workshop.
