Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 96: …but this is double that number!
Five.
That was the number of transcendents supposed to be in Void City.
Miranda had also concurred with this information, so Jamie had moved with the assumption that it was now wrong.
Perhaps that was why, after finding out the locations of the five transcendents, Jamie had subconsciously let down his guard.
This resulted in the current situation; where he was faced with a Transcendent spirit who could not only see through his camouflage but also appeared to recognize who he was.
’How could he see through me?’
Jamie’s question was answered when he sensed the energy bubbling up in the spirit’s body, that of a half-formed law-origin core.
The spirit had a Pseudo-Authority in the law of light.
And he who was merely using the normal ambient energy of the law of light, could be seen through easily.
It was the thing with Authorities.
If one had a higher one than you in a law, they could see through things you did with yours, and exceptionally skilled law manipulators could even hijack your techniques cast with your authority and turn them against you.
But that was a talk for another day
What was important right now, was that this spirit was a Race Lord in a Transcendent avatar. Someone who had lived thousands of years, and someone who knew who Jamie was.
So, what would his reaction be after seeing Jamie in the middle of a Facility owned by a Dragon King whom everyone knew had it out for Jamie?
[Pseudo Authority of Light: Luminaric Burst]
"Void."
Jamie’s reaction speed was freakish, instantaneously creating a giant blue-rimmed void portal in front of his body that devoured the beam of pure incandescent energy capable of disintegrating anything in its path.
The attack was averted, but it came with circumstances.
Jamie sensed the aura of the Transcendents in the tower above and the dummy building press down on the area, and with it, came that of the remaining four transcendents in the other sectors of the city.
They had all sensed the Pseudo Authority Activation, and when they noticed the area it came from, they dropped whatever they were doing and moved over.
Except for the Dragon in the pleasure sector, that is. The dude finished first before coming over to the Research Facility.
I mean, his comrades were going over so he didn’t see anything wrong with delaying a little.
Back on Jamie’s side of things, a blaring, high-pitched sound resembling a klaxon, piercing and urgent rang out across the Void Gate Facility, and immediately, a lockdown sequence was initiated.
"Binding Light!"
’Sever!’
Jamie jumped back and released spatial blades that shredded the tendrils of concentrated light that attempted to latch onto him, landing on the floor with a frown on his face.
’Damn, the other Transcendents are on their w-no, they’re already here.
I’d have an issue with just one transcendent, much less six of th-?!’
The Hybrid’s eyes widened in shock when he sensed the auras locking down on him, his lips twitching repeatedly as he couldn’t help but mutter.
"This is bad...very bad."
Five Transcendents, he knew of, plus the Light Spirit to make six.
So when Jamie spread out his spatial perception to full capacity, he expected to sense six transcendents in the city.
However, in that same moment, he also sensed the Void Gate activating, and this preceded the entrance of extra presences.
"Five Transcendents my foot!"
**BOOMMM!!!!
The ground underneath his feet cracked open and a giant fist-shaped construct made of earth emerged from within, trying to capture Jamie’s body and leaving him with no choice but to jump away to avoid it.
He phased through the roof of the building, into the sky above, but the fist followed him, destroying the facility’s roof in the process.
’Carve.’
Jamie waved his hand and used a mass of spatial energy to carve apart the earthen arm, before looking around him and sighing.
"Well, I’d be damned."
The intel he had said that there were supposed to be five transcendents, but right now, Jamie was surrounded by double that number.
"Ain’t this too much to deal with just one intruder?"
Jamie questioned with a forced expression when he sensed the ten auras lock onto him, but after thinking about things from their perspective, he kinda understood why they all showed up.
There being an intruder was one thing.
There being an intruder in the area where the real Void Gate was located was a separate thing.
Then there being an intruder that required a Transcendent to use a Pseudo Authority, was a whole different thing.
When you thought about things like that, it made sense why they all showed up.
Even the other four who were on the other end of the Void Gate.
The Light Spirit man was also part of the group on the other end, a Group that had snuck into Zotov undetected and was hiding in the ERE zone.
Jamie had encountered the light spirit when he was about to return to the Void Gate.
When the other four had sensed the lockdown sequence being initiated on the void gate, they quickly jumped through the dimensional rift and entered Void City to see what was going on and why there’d be a lockdown.
This led to Jamie having to deal with ten transcendents.
[Radiant Barrage!]
The light spirit’s voice rang out as he channelled his magic power and focused it into a radiant orb in front of his palms.
Flying into the air after Jamie, he released the orb which then exploded into a flurry of radiant projectiles, creating a dazzling display as they moved in graceful arcs.
Each one left behind a luminous trail as they pierced through the air and closed in on Jamie from all directions.
*SNAP!
Jamie snapped his fingers and created dozens of tiny azure-rimmed portals leading to the void, positioning them in the trajectories of the incoming light projectiles.
The projectiles all blitzed into the void, devoured by the darkness beyond it as the portals closed up.
At this time, the dragon who was in the tower of the Research Facility finally got a good look at Jamie’s face, his eyes widening in shock as he screamed out.
"Fucking Westley!"
