Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 319: A World Torn Asunder
"How about you treat that body a little more delicately?"
While Jamie remarked on the fragility of Davina’s body, ’Davina’ was already moving on to her next attack. A white light began to condense in her hand before she unleashed a torrent of magic power that was like a pure incarnation of destruction.
Jamie snapped his fingers and conjured a wormhole to absorb the attack, before arcing around the wormhole and closing the gap between them.
He threw out a knife-hand strike at ’Davina’, but she blocked it and countered with a finger stab. He dodged a half-step to the side and her arm passed by, grazing his cheek and drawing blood.
He countered her counter with a knee, but ’Davina’ threw out her knee to intercept his while simultaneously aiming a punch at his cheek.
Jamie weaved his head around that, less to avoid the damage and more to avoid Davina’s body breaking upon contact with his, before flipping his entire body around. Using the centrifugal force from that, he threw out a backhand, but ’Davina’ ducked under that while performing a low kick to sweep his legs.
He teleported to avoid the strike, swinging his sword with the flat side, aiming for her back, but she was able to spin around and throw her hand out to block the attack with a barrier of compressed law energy.
’Tsk...’
Jamie clicked his tongue internally as he let go of the Galaxy Sword, the blade disappearing with specks of light. His fist shot forward, ripping through the barrier and nearly colliding with her face, but ’Davina’ tilted her head to the side to dodge, while simultaneously unleashing another claw attack to Jamie’s face.
The space between her hand and his face expanded in an instant, and Jamie used that extra time to teleport behind her and unleash a roundhouse kick that landed on her side, sending her body flying.
But despite his successful attack, Jamie frowned deeply.
Not because ’Davina’ had managed to put up a barrier of gravity law energy that blocked the attack at the last moment.
He frowned because he was finding it very hard to hold back. It was why he put away his sword, after all, as a single cut from that blade could kill Davina and destroy her soul in an instant.
Sadly, his opponent didn’t care for his concerns and charged at him like nothing mattered, moving at relativistic speed even though Davina’s body constantly broke down under the strain.
She threw a kick at his side, but by the time he tried to counter after guarding against the heavy kick, ’Davina’ was already gone.
By the time Jamie thought he saw a white flash, he’d already been assaulted with a shockwave from behind.
’Her speed increased? This...it’s the effect of the Blood Transference...’
Jamie’s frown deepened as the white flash kept coming, attacking him from all directions. He defended against all the attacks, even though she moved so fast she left hundreds of afterimages in the air.
Predicting the source of the next attack, Jamie threw out a punch that connected with her face at the same moment her fist hit his cheek.
The power in his body, however, trumped hers, so while he only bent backwards slightly, ’Davina’ was blown backwards as if she weighed nothing, and her beautiful face was wet with blood.
Barely a second later, she jumped at him again while her wounds were still regenerating, continuing her attack without care that she had been countered.
"Alright, enough of this."
Jamie’s eyes glowed and the space around him distorted. Countless rifts tore up from the ground, turning the area into a field where one misstep would mean being sliced apart by the jagged spatial rifts.
He didn’t intend to defeat ’Davina’ with just that attack, of course, but was instead trying to control how she moved. Trying to wind her way through the rifts would slow her down, and she couldn’t destroy them either as that would require her to use a level of power that would cause Davina’s body to instantly burst into a shower of blood.
That left her with only one other option.
Jamie immediately jumped, tacking ’Davina’ in mid-air just as she was about to attack him from above like he’d expected.
He grabbed her arm and slammed a kick into her soft belly, simultaneously slamming his elbow into her back, scissoring her between his knee and elbow.
"Gughk!!"
Blood spurted from her mouth, but Jamie didn’t flinch as he grabbed her by the neck and shot up into the sky.
The space before him shrunk and he instantly reached a height that the thousands of buildings on the continent below looked like specks. Then, he dove down, using his downward momentum to throw ’Davina’ onto the ground.
As her body shot downwards at supersonic speed, Jamie clenched his fist and threw a punch, unleashing a shockwave of gravity law energy that mercilessly crashed into ’Davina’, emitting a loud sound and caving in the ground with a deafening explosion.
Jamie landed on the ground and waved his hand to clear away the dust, however, the sight he was met with made him frown.
Seeing his expression ’Davina’ snapped her twisted shoulder back in place, then pushed the rib poking out of her side back in as she spoke, her expression unchanged.
"Holding back isn’t going to end this, you know? I for one, wouldn’t stop until I get what I want—you out of the equation."
The pressure radiating from ’Davina’ increased with each word, more magic power and law energy bursting out of her body with so much force it cratered the ground around her.
Her black hair waved in the wind, and thunder sounded, streaks of white lightning arcing through the skies of Anadus Prime.
Despite it being daytime, Jamie began to see faint white celestial bodies in the sky, the moons of this planet, as well as distant asteroids being pulled closer and forcibly transformed into ’Moons’.
He could see as white moondust surged over the body of a rocky asteroid, and powerful gravity law energy surged into it, giving it enough self-gravity to instantly round itself.
"You know..."
’Davina’ spoke up once again as she stepped out of the crater formed by her energy, swinging her arm to test its flexibility.
"I’ve always wanted to beat you at least once."
"You have a much higher chance of achieving that in your actual body," Jamie replied.
"Unfortunately, that’s not an option right now."
The pressure she gave off multiplied explosively, and her whole body started to glow silvery-white. A storm of energy began to brew with her at the centre and the planet shook, quaking with fear.
By the time the sound of her words reached Jamie, her fist was already crashing towards his chest, colliding with it and shattering the skin-tight spatial barrier that always covered him.
Jamie’s point of view instantly switched forward, and he was blown so far that for a second, he couldn’t see the ground anymore.
By the time he had that thought, his back was crashing through a volcano, tearing through its lava chamber as it exploded with apocalyptic fury, spewing magma everywhere.
Unscathed, Jamie flipped in the air and landed on his feet, but in the same second his feet touched the scorched ground, a punch was already zipping towards his head from behind.
He evaded without looking and spun to grab the fist, but its owner’s body dissolved into light, turning intangible.
The streak of light twisted and curved through space, attacking from every direction at once with devastating strikes that shattered the fabric of space-time.
But even as the silvery-white energy-cloaked fists rained down on Jamie with stellar force, he remained composed, expanding the space around him to create more room to react as he easily parried each attack.
Snapping his fingers, wormholes spiralled into existence, swallowing the rain of light arrows that descended with apocalyptic force and redirecting them into the void before they could reach him.
The space-bending projectiles came intermittently between the blinding barrage of strikes converging upon him from every conceivable angle. The shockwaves ripped apart the ground, sending tremors through the continent, down to the tectonic plates below it.
Just as ’Davina’ launched another devastating punch aimed at his face, Jamie moved with uncanny speed, his hand shooting out to intercept her wrist, his grip tightening around it.
But even though Jamie finally caught her dominant arm in his grip, she simply opened her palm to reveal a miniature ’moon’, a swirling sphere of intensely compressed energy which instantly detonated with cataclysmic force, unleashing a wave of pure destructive power that tore through the continent.
The explosion carved a colossal hole deep into the landmass, reaching far past the planet’s magma layer, its molten depths now visible in the gaping chasm, and violently splitting the entire continent in two.
