Chapter 239: If you’re ever at a crossroad, Toss A Coin

OmniVerge Industries Incorporated Headquarters

Efvahona Region (Elf)

Neutral Continent

December 1st

Year 2018

Jamie lounged comfortably in the CEO’s chair, his attention absorbed in his phone. A slight smile played on his face as he swiped through the features of the payment app, looking perfectly at home in the seat usually occupied by his Elven disciple, Nimon.

Nimon, meanwhile, stood nearby with a respectful expression, watching his superior and occasionally explaining anything Jamie needed insight on.

Suddenly, the door opened and in rushed the secretary, her breathing rapid and eyes wide. She immediately addressed Nimon, barely keeping her composure.

"Sir, we... have a situation."

Nimon turned to her, his brow creasing slightly.

"What is it?"

The secretary swallowed, steadying herself before she replied while glancing nervously at Jamie.

"Vampire Queen, Seren Evangelista, is here for you, sir."

Nimon’s eyebrows shot up in mild surprise. He did have some dealings with Seren, but the woman rarely paid visits in person. He glanced quickly at Jamie, who seemed unfazed, fingers still busy on his phone.

"Send her up."

Nimon said, giving the secretary a nod and moments later, the office doors swung open, and Seren stepped in. Her gaze immediately found Nimon, and she began speaking.

"Nimon, I need to—"

Then she froze. Her crimson eyes settled on the figure in the CEO’s chair beside Nimon, and a flash of shock crossed her face before she quickly masked it. She hadn’t sensed him at all until she saw him physically.

"Greetings, Lord Jamie."

She said, giving a respectful bow and Jamie waved his hand casually, not looking up from his phone.

With that, she turned back to Nimon, though her posture was notably more composed.

"As I was saying, Nimon, I wanted to discuss our recent deal in Valtoris. There’s been a shift in the market that could complicate our acquisition of those warp-gate factories."

"Yes, I’ve heard. I suggest we move quickly if we’re to secure it and push for exclusivity."

Seren gave an approving nod.

"Agreed. I’ll have my subordinates draft the necessary agreements. We can split the investment; your expertise with logistics on Valtoris will be essential."

"Consider it done,"

Nimon replied smoothly and Seren, satisfied, turned her attention back to Jamie.

"Lord Jamie, if I may... there’s another matter I’d hoped to discuss with you."

Without even glancing up from his phone, Jamie replied simply.

"Speak."

"You are acquainted with David and Davina, are you not?"

Seren asked, her gaze fixed on Jamie who nodded absently, eyes still on his screen. Exhaling lightly, she continued, her tone careful.

"Would it be possible for you to take them along when you leave Estea?"

Finally, Jamie stopped what he was doing. He raised his gaze to meet Seren’s, and for a moment, silence filled the room.

"Seren, I’m going to the Amphitheatre in Pinecone. That’s not exactly a place to randomly bring two mortal kids."

Indeed, he had briefly considered it at first. But after thinking over the volatile situation he would face in Pinecone, he realized taking David and Davina would not be a good idea.

There was still the issue of the Space Beast Lord’s missing soul. In other words, there was some sort of conspiracy something brewing in Pinecone so Jamie changed his original decision.

Yet, Seren was not deterred by his negative response.

"I understand that the places you go may be dangerous. But I want those two children to grow—truly grow. I believe that under enough pressure, they could uncover their full potential."

Jamie raised an eyebrow, then he glanced out the window and in the direction of a swirling blue portal in the middle of a street a few blocks away.

"And don’t we have these things called Gates now? They lead to all kinds of worlds, right? Toss them through one with a few escorts. If it’s pressure you want, I’m sure they’ll find something on the other side."

Still, Seren shook her head slightly.

"I’m not certain that would be enough. Just being alongside you, Lord Jamie, would be a far greater opportunity than anything they’d find on the other side of a Gate."

Jamie narrowed his gaze, intrigued by her insistence.

"You’ve got a lot of confidence."

Hearing Jamie’ a knowing smile played on Seren’s lips as she reminded him of a past experience.

"Have you forgotten, Lord Jamie? I was stuck at the peak of transcendence for years. After just one adventure with you, I encountered enough situations to break through transcendence and reach the intermediate stage of the Half-Deity Realm in one go.

Of course, I have a lot of confidence."

Seren knew all too well the kind of growth one could gain from journeying with him. She’d been through it herself, and now she wanted that same chance for her grandchildren—especially Davina.

Jamie stared at Seren in silence, then sighed, glancing back down at his phone.

"I don’t know, Seren. I don’t know."

He paused, thinking for a second, then turned toward Nimon.

"Do you have a coin on you?"

Nimon silently opened his subspace and pulled out an old coin, handing it over. Jamie took it, studying its worn, faded surface with mild amusement.

"Heads, I take them. Tails, I don’t."

And like that, he tossed the coin into the air, its metallic glint catching the light as it spun.

Seren’s eyes widened, momentarily startled, then relaxed as she processed his logic. Right, she thought, this is classic Jamie. Resolving decisions by chance, as carefree as ever.

The coin landed on the table with a faint clink. Jamie leaned forward, took a glance and spoke.

"Oh, heads. Lucky for you, Seren. Alright, I’ll see what I can do. But fair warning: I may end up dropping them off somewhere along the way. Maybe under Denise’s care."

He paused, his expression shifting into a slight frown.

"Speaking of which, where’s Denise? I haven’t seen her since I came back."

The response to his question came from Nimon.

"She’s out inspecting something in another Galactic sector."

Receiving this response, Jamie nodded and then spoke.

"When she’s back on Estea, tell her to find me in Pinecone—or actually, no, send her to Neo Titania instead.

Tell her to oversee everything there. If any Angel decides to try anything funny, she should kill them. Preserve their souls while she’s at it."

Nimon’s eyes widened ever so slightly when he heard Jamie casually mention killing the Angels. He wasn’t clear on the situation, but the fact that Jamie added that their souls should be preserved indicated that they were subordinates of the Sixth Hybrid, Sarina Aster.

In the first place, you would think Jamie would hold back since his fellow Hybrid was involved, but clearly, that was not the case.

After giving his orders about Denise’s next assignment, Jamie went back to scrolling on his phone, only half-listening as Seren’s voice broke the quiet.

"So, Lord Jamie..."

"Hmm? Oh, yeah, yeah. About those two—don’t worry, I’ll take them. The coin said so."

He replied distractedly and waved a hand, passing all responsibility to the piece of metal, and Seren couldn’t help but smile at his casual indifference.

"Thank you very much."

She gave a small bow and Jamie replied offhandedly.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. But, uh...where the hell are they? I have zero idea."

"At this point, they should still be at the academy."

Seren replied and Jamie looked up, surprised.

"Academy? They’re in school?"

"Yes, they’re in school,"

Seren confirmed without a shift in her tone and Jamie posed a question with a raised eyebrow.

"How old are they again?"

"Nineteen."

"Nineteen? Makes sense, I guess. Still in school. Anyway, the academy, Is it in Lorelith’s territory?"

Seren gave a nod in response to Jamie’s question, calling out the academy’s name.

"Yes, the Vampiric Academy of Erudition."
