Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 238: A Day in Silverspire II
Miranda wasn’t one to reject a kiss from Jamie, so she reciprocated. But as she kissed him back, her tongue was bathed in hot spice that made her flinch, but her sense of smell was completely muted so couldn’t smell it at all!
Confused, she pulled back, frowning at him.
"Jay! What did you do?"
Jamie only chuckled, his eyes filled with mischief.
"Just thought I’d give you a taste of Silverspire’s finest spices without the warning. Didn’t want to overwhelm you."
Miranda rolled her eyes, wrinkling her nose right after as her frown deepened.
"I should’ve known you’d pull something like this. Now I can’t smell anything!"
Jamie leaned back in his chair, laughing and Miranda reached over, flicking his forehead as she broke the spell forcefully.
"Remind me to repay the favour next time. Maybe with something you won’t see coming."
"Oh, I’m looking forward to it."
Jamie responded, flashing a mischievous grin and Miranda rolled her eyes once more.
To anyone passing by, they looked like a couple enjoying the simple pleasure of each other’s company—just two people wrapped up in the moment, savouring the joy of a sunlit afternoon in the heart of the city.
After finishing their meal, Jamie brushed a few crumbs from his shirt and leaned back with a satisfied sigh.
"It was better than I expected."
"True..."
They moved from the plaza and wandered further into Silverspire, veering towards the main festival square.
Musicians played cheerful tunes on the corners, and colourful banners fluttered above the streets they walked.
Their next stop was a quiet little art gallery tucked away from the main street, and the atmosphere inside was hushed, with soft lighting illuminating a collection of paintings, sculptures, and sketches—many of which featured Silverspire’s breath-taking landscapes, forests, and towering mountains.
They meandered through the exhibits, sharing thoughts on each piece, occasionally teasing one another with their wildly different interpretations.
Jamie could barely contain his laughter when he found a portrait and statue of Miranda, both of which got her hair colour wrong.
They completely ignored the predominant silver part of her hair and painted it all purple and according to Miranda, it made her look like some sort of peacock.
After leaving the gallery, they stepped outside just as the sky began to take on the warm hues of dusk.
The bells of Silverspire chimed, echoing throughout the city, signalling the beginning of the night’s festivities.
All around, people began to gather, filling the streets with laughter and excitement as the city transformed into a festival wonderland.
Jamie turned to Miranda, his eyes alight with childish excitement.
"Shall we join in?"
In response, Miranda smiled, linking her arm with his.
"Lead the way."
They joined the crowds heading toward the festival grounds, where lanterns in every colour imaginable hung above, casting a soft glow that danced across the streets.
Stalls filled with fragrant foods, glowing trinkets, and handcrafted jewellery lined the paths, each beckoning for a closer look.
Children ran past with small paper lanterns, their laughter mingling with the music of live performers scattered throughout the grounds.
The lanterns hanging overhead flickered to life, casting a warm, golden glow that filled the square. It felt as though Silverspire had transformed in an instant, the energy shifting from a lively market scene to a more enchanting and festive atmosphere.
Vibrant colours washed over the crowd, mingling with the shadows as townsfolk moved in rhythm with the growing hum of laughter and music. Jamie and Miranda let themselves be captivated by the spectacle, their eyes reflecting the dancing lights overhead.
Hand in hand, they made their way through the narrow, crowded lanes between the stalls.
Everywhere they looked, there was something new to see—a vendor selling shimmering crystals that caught the light and scattered it into tiny rainbows, a craftsman carving delicate figurines from blocks of wood, and a baker rolling out fresh dough for pastries.
They paused at a stall displaying a collection of charms and talismans where a petite, elderly woman with grey hair and a warm smile gestured for them to come closer.
Miranda lifted a delicate pendant—a silver crescent moon etched with intricate designs—tracing its smooth, cool surface with her fingers. She glanced at Jamie, who had already pulled out his phone to pay.
With a smile, he leaned in, fastening the pendant gently around her neck.
"Today, I shall adorn myself with every jewel that catches my eye."
"Go ahead. Just don’t blame me when you start looking like a peacock for real."
Jamie spoke in a teasing tone, earning a pout from Miranda as she turned to glare at him. He only laughed, reaching for her hand as they continued down the lively row of stalls.
They soon stopped at a game booth lined with rows of brightly coloured bottles, and Jamie picked up a small ring, aiming carefully before tossing it.
The ring wobbled through the air before landing with a clink around a bottle’s neck and Jamie grinned at this, raising an eyebrow at Miranda, who clapped lightly in mock admiration.
Miranda took her turn, tossing her ring with a flick that sent it just shy of the target. She squinted suspiciously at Jamie, who glanced away, whistling suspiciously.
She didn’t dwell on it too long, moving on to the next attraction where a fire-easter had set up a performance nearby, the flames arcing and swirling in mesmerizing patterns.
The crowd around them gasped, captivated by the dancer’s deft movements and the fire’s wild beauty.
Jamie and Miranda watched for a bit before heading towards the heart of the festival—the spacious, open square where musicians played lively tunes that reverberated through the crowd.
Townsfolk danced, their movements quick and joyous as they spun and twirled in time with the music.
Jamie and Miranda exchanged a quick look, sharing a moment of unspoken understanding, and they stepped forward, joining the dance.
They moved in perfect harmony, guided by the beat of the drums and the sweet melodies of the flutes. Jamie twirled Miranda, lifting her off her feet as she laughed, her joy lighting up her face.
They moved as though they were the only two in the square, completely absorbed in each other, the music weaving around them, connecting them to the crowd yet setting them apart.
The crowd soon took notice, clapping and cheering as the couple danced with a natural flair that was hard to look away from.
Jamie spun Miranda around him, and she responded with a playful dip, their steps falling into a rhythm that matched the rising tempo. The crowd clapped along, their cheers blending with the music, urging the two of them on.
As the song reached its crescendo, a small girl, no older than five, approached, holding a flower crown woven from delicate white blossoms and green leaves.
Her bright eyes were filled with excitement as she extended the crown toward them, however, her expression soon turned to a shy smile as she placed the crown on Miranda’s head, and then offered Jamie a matching one.
"Congratulations! You’re the couple of the festival!"
She announced, giggling as the crowd around them cheered and clapped.
Jamie chuckled, crouching down to lift the little girl onto his shoulders. She squealed with delight, holding onto his head as he began to move in a playful dance, with Miranda laughing and clapping along beside him.
Miranda then took one of the girl’s hands, twirling and laughing as they continued to dance with her between them.
They made their way through the crowd, dancing in a joyful rhythm with the girl clapping and giggling from her perch on Jamie’s shoulders.
The townsfolk’s claps fell into sync with the beat of the music, their cheers filling the night air, as Jamie and Miranda moved as one, spinning and stepping in perfect harmony.
The little girl’s laughter was infectious, spilling over into the crowd, and for that moment, it seemed like the entire square was caught up in the magic of the night.
They danced together as the music slowed, and finally, Jamie knelt to set the girl back down. She gave both of them a quick hug before scampering off, her flower crown bobbing as she ran.
Jamie and Miranda watched her disappear into the crowd before sharing a glance and laughing.
"Well, the festival isn’t over."
"I think this is gonna go on till the morning."
Miranda responded and then glanced at Jamie, then the both of them shrugged and rushed back into the crown to continue engaging in the festivities.
