March 7th, Unknown Year.
899th Cosmic Cycle
A convoy of sleek, black luxury cars sped down a lonely road, their polished exteriors gleaming under the late afternoon sun.
The asphalt stretched ahead, flanked by small clearings that quickly gave way to dense forests on either side. The thick canopy of trees cast long shadows, adding a sense of enchantment to the tranquil landscape.
In one of the cars nestled in the middle of the convoy, a young man with silver hair and clear blue eyes with slit black pupils sat comfortably.
His handsome face wore a charming smile, and his attire— a short-sleeved collared shirt that revealed his toned arms, tucked neatly into black trousers with a slightly loose tie—added to his effortless appeal.
Seated on his lap was a vision of beauty with waist-length purple-silver hair, intricately braided and draped over her shoulder
The woman had waist-length purple-silver hair, intricately braided and draped over her shoulder. Her left eye was a striking blue, while her right was a deep purple, adding to her unique allure.
Her lithe figure and above-average bosom were covered up by the casual baggy T-shirt she wore, tucked into long trousers and paired with boots. When she spoke, a single fang peeked out from within her parted lips, giving her an endearing charm.
She sat comfortably on the young man’s lap, a bright smile lighting up her face as he fed her grapes from a pack in his hand.
Her eyes sparkled with delight as she delicately accepted each grape, her fingers occasionally brushing against his as she adjusted her braid or playfully tugged at his tie. His free hand rested on her waist, fingers tracing small, absent-minded circles on the fabric of her shirt.
"You’re eating your hair, Mira."
The man spoke with a bemused smile, setting aside the stalk of the grape he had just fed her. He gently extracted a strand of her purple-silver locks from between her lips, where it had strayed during her meal.
"Mhmm...this is pretty annoying."
The young woman responded to his words with a light pout.
It wasn’t the first time that strands of her hair ended up slipping into her mouth when she was eating and although she didn’t mind it the first few times, it didn’t take too long to become irritating.
"Why don’t you move your braid to your back?"
When the young man suggested this, shifting her hair out of the way, Mira’s eyes lit up with a mischievous glint as she countered with words that made his smile crack and replaced his playful expression with a serious one.
"Or maybe I should just cut it? Do you think short hair would suit me, Jay?"
"Mira, NEVER bring scissors near your hair... EVER."
He spoke with a firm intensity, his hands gripping her face as he placed a lot of emphasis on his words. Meeting his gaze with her own eyes reflecting a mix of surprise and understanding, she gave a silent nod in agreement. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
The warmth of his hands against her face was soothing, and she closed her eyes, leaning into his touch with a gentle smile, her lips curling up in contentment.
To an observer, their gestures could easily be mistaken for flirtation. The way she leaned into him, giggling softly at words he whispered, and how his fingers lingered on her lips as he fed her, all suggested a deep intimacy.
However, there was an innocent playfulness in their interactions, a comfort born of familiarity rather than seduction.
Even so, it was kind of a running gag for people to fall over in shock whenever they were informed of the truth that these two were merely just friends in every sense of the word.
Old friends who’d known each other for 15 out of the 25 years they’d both lived, but friends nonetheless.
Their displays of affection, though innocent, were making the other two people in the back of the car slightly uncomfortable. They shifted in their seats, exchanging glances that conveyed second-hand embarrassment.
The closeness between the pair on the man’s lap was palpable, their connection so strong it seemed to envelop the small space within the car.
However, much to the relief of the other two, the small world of the silver-haired pair was broken when a wave of malevolent magic power washed over them.
The man’s blue eyes narrowed into slits, and then he sighed, lifting the woman on his lap off and setting her on the seat beside him.
"Give me a minute."
He delivered those four words with a calm tone as he roused his energy, wrapping himself in spatial power and teleporting outside the vehicle.
Reappearing on the top of the moving car’s roof, he took a deep breath and drew his sword, looking straight ahead as he prepared to do his job—guarding this convoy from whatever threat was coming its way.
To be precise, his contract stated he was to guard a certain individual within the car he stood atop.
On the 7th day of the third month of the 1 million years that made up the 899th Cosmic Cycle—over a billion years before the establishment of the General Calendar system—Alpha Hybrid Jamie Franklin Westley, son of the most powerful Werewolf Emperor in the Universe, was working as a mercenary on a relatively young Prime World, millions of light-years from his home in the Vela Galaxy.
Accompanying him was his long-time childhood friend, Miranda Violet Scott, the youngest child of a Race Emperor whose power was second only to Jamie’s father.
They were currently undertaking an escort mission, one which would boost their Mercenary Rank to the level where they’d finally gain access to the ’Super Special Dungeon Labyrinth’ that they had come to this Prime World for in the first place.
It was rumoured to contain crystals for rare laws, rare enough that even with their influence spanning millions of galaxies, the Westelys and Scotts were unable to get their hands on some of these crystals.
Each one contained the knowledge of a Universal Law that could be comprehended to grant one an understanding of the law.
At sufficient understanding levels, they could acquire an ’Authority—the right to enforce their will upon the power of the law.
Besides Progenitors of Races, comprehending laws was only possible when one became a Transcendent—the realm Jamie currently was in.
He had reached Level 999, however, he had been unable to cross that final barrier and ascend to become a Higher Existence for reasons unknown.
As such, he was going around, trying to find out why, while also taking upon new laws and powers to try and see if he could forcefully break this barrier keeping him from becoming a Higher Existence, despite possessing multiple Pseudo-Authorities and having long since met all the conditions for Exuviation.
This was five years after Jamie and Miranda had become Hybrids, and the Interstellar Stage still didn’t fully believe they had the unimaginable traits they were said to possess.
It would have been a walk in the park for Jamie and Miranda to exercise the influence they possessed as Race Emperors’ children to gain direct access to their target location, but Jamie wanted to do things normally because it was ’more fun that way’.
As such, they had spent the past year rapidly climbing the Ranks of Gnocyl Prime’s Mercenary Guild, in order to reach the Diamond Rank which would allow them into the Planet’s most restricted areas.
Returning to the current situation, Jamie infused magic power into the featureless blade in his hands, and then he leapt off the car and landed on the vehicle in front of it.
He ran across its roof, his steps as light as a feather before leaping off to the next one. He repeated this till he got to the car leading the convoy and the other guards who responded to the wave of magic power were greeted with the scene of him landing on the rooftop of the leading car.
Jamie crouched and knocked on the glass of the vehicle, before instructing the driver, using magic to carry his voice through the glass.
[Don’t slow down.]
With those words he raised his head and looked forward, watching as the vibrant green of the surrounding forest began to warp and distort.
