Chapter 138: Beach Date

Jamie awakened from his slumber and attempted to lift his head. However, he discovered that his body was being held tightly by Miranda who had also slept off.

Looking at the sun in the sky, Jamie could tell it was high noon, meaning he had been asleep for 3 hours straight.

’You would think I would be tired of sleeping after doing it for 12,000 years straight...’

The man yawned lightly, before releasing himself from Miranda’s hold via teleportation.

But despite the seamless action not even releasing an iota of energy, Miranda’s eyes shot open at the moment after his warmth had abruptly disappeared.

"Wake up, sleepy head."

"..."

She stared at him in a daze, taking a few moments to recollect herself.

"It’s noon."

"Indeed, it is."

Jamie grabbed her hands and pulled her off the chair, dragging her towards the sea as he continued.

"Why don’t we go for a swim? We’re at a beach, after all."

"Mhmm..."

Miranda nodded absentmindedly, seemingly moving on autopilot until Jamie suddenly splashed her with water.

The cold liquid seemed to snap her back to reality and she silently delivered a counterattack with her leg.

"Oy! That’s too much!"

"Too much?"

The woman cocked her head to the side and the water around them swirled up into the sky before releasing pressurized streams in Jamie’s direction.

He quickly jumped out of the way to dodge, only to fail woefully as his leg got caught on a seaweed.

"How is that thing even strong enough to hold me down?!"

Those were his last words before he was swallowed by a deluge of water and plunged deep into the ocean.

Miranda dived in after him and what followed was the duo of Hybrids, both of which were over hundreds of millions in age, playing like 12-year-old children.

They swam and then played in the sand for some time, before stopping to have a meal while relaxing on the beach.

Jamie pulled out the barbecue set he had recently acquired and prepared some extra food while Miranda just sighed as she watched him work.

As for the ingredients of the barbecue, they ignored the thousands of fish in the ocean and decided to go with roasted wings.

Glorious Wings!

...it wasn’t chicken wings, though.

For some reason, all the dragons on Zotov felt their wings itch at that moment, but they never discovered the source of that itch.

After having their meal, they rested a bit before playing around some more.

However, the hands of the clock moved and the planet still spun.

Eventually, the sun began to set. The sky was dyed red, and the reflections on the water’s surface brought a different vibe to the setting.

"Now’s the right time for a photo shoot."

"I’ve got my camera."

"Say cheese!"

Jamie shouted out as he snatched the camera from Miranda’s hands, pointing it at her and urging her to pose.

She gave a toothy grin and held up two fingers right before the sound of the shutter rang out in quick succession.

"Hey, that thing has a storage limit!"

"It’s not the only one you have, right?"

"...true."

Miranda shrugged when Jamie pointed that out. She had tons of cameras in her subspace, devices she had acquired for various reasons over thousands of years.

She had Jamie take shot after shot while she changed her location, angle and pose. They also took a lot of selfies, both normal ones and ones considered a bit...too much.

"Wow...just wow.

In one photo, we’re posing like a normal couple and the next you’re fondling me like it’s the most natural thing in the world."

"It is, isn’t it?"

Miranda sighed as she turned her head to the side, deadpanning at Jamie whose hands were sliding under her bikini top even at that moment.

"Horn dog."

"I’m your Horn dog."

"Geez...that was cringe as fuck."

She chuckled lightly before slipping out of his hold and looking up at the night sky.

The warmth of the sunlit beach had turned to tranquillity with the rise of the moon. The rippling surface of the ocean now reflected the moonlight, making the view look like a prestige piece of fantasy art.

It certainly did not look like a scene you’d find in a world at war for its survival.

"He’s close, isn’t he?"

"Mhmm..."

Miranda nodded in response to Jamie’s sudden question, and the man noticed the way her expression turned gloomy for a bit.

He smiled at how cute she was being and pulled her into a kiss, before sliding his lips to her neck and sinking his fangs into her fair skin.

He wasn’t drinking her blood because he needed to, but simply just for the sake of inducing feelings of pleasure into her.

The mood was about to turn steamy when the two noticed an approaching presence, a frown appearing on Jamie’s face as he let go of Miranda and turned his gaze in the ocean’s direction.

The water surged upwards and the figure of the mermaid Adrienna emerged from within.

When she stepped onto land and saw the two of them, her expression changed as she realised she may have interrupted something.

After all, it was kind of hard to miss the little bit of blood still on Jamie’s lips. The man licked his lips and the scene was something that made Adrienna turn red.

She quickly snapped out of her daze when she felt Miranda’s glare, clearing her throat before walking up to them.

"Here."

The Mermaid retrieved a box from her subspace and held it out to Jamie. It was small, 30 by 30 cm in size and was made of a translucent material.

Contained within were small rounded fragments of glass containing the essence of water within.

"Hmm...even better than I thought."

Adrienna was clearly reluctant to let go of the box, but she reminded herself that it was for her own good.

"You’ve fulfilled your part of the contract."

The moment Jamie said that, the illusory chain binding them shattered into fragments of light that dissipated seconds later.

However, Adrienna had vanished from the area by then, not even risking spending a second near the two Hybrids without the contract’s assurance.

Jamie and Miranda did not care, instead, they tossed the box aside and then picked up where they left off.

As expected, it the mood turned even steamier than it was originally meant to, and the two vanished from the area, moving behind closed doors to continue their business.

◇ ◇ ◇

The morning of February 5th was bright and sunny, which by the standards of a certain Hybrid, was the perfect time to kill someone.

These ’standards’ were the reason why the Dragon Army Headquarters on the continent of Ladoa was currently up in flames.

There was a roar as the flames surged higher and higher, a blazing azure inferno enveloping the hall of the great castle that was once the palace of a long-deceased Zotovian national ruler.

Every last one of the magnificent furnishings that decorated the room scorched and burned until the whole picture resembled a scene from hell.

The room was unrecognizable. It typically gleamed with a gorgeous lustre, but the heat that filled it had erased all signs of life.

Jamie’s blue flames consumed the corpses of all the dragons nearby, flickering eerily.

A massive hole in the ceiling revealed the sky above, a dark swirling mixture of magic power and universal law energy sprawled across its expanse.

"Hexblade: Whirling Tempest."

Jamie’s six swords spun in a mesmerizing whirlwind, creating a protective barrier of steel around the Hybrid. This defensive phase deflected the incoming attacks and projectiles of his opponent while maintaining offensive pressure.

"Serpent’s Strike!"

He followed it up with a strike carrying the precision and unpredictability of a serpent, launching a quick attack that bypassed his opponent’s guard.

"Grrn...!"

The man he faced grimaced under the pressure, jumping back before releasing a slash of powerful lightning from his blade.

In response, Jamie released his own spatial slash that devoured the man’s lightning power, before going on to split the grand hall in two halves.

"Ah...too much power. Need to fine-tune it a bit."

Jamie stopped moving and began muttering to himself, ignoring his opponent who was charging in for a counter after dodging.

Just when the other man was convinced that he would be able to land a hit, Jamie’s body flickered like an illusion and his blade phased through harmlessly.

"!!"

Immediately, he tried to correct his posture but it was too late.

Jamie spun around and delivered a powerful slash that tore the man’s flesh, sending blood and bone fragments flying.

Despite the serious wound, the man was still able to roll away and then get to his feet, filling his sword with magic power and charging at him once more.

Jamie flicked his fingers and scattered more azure flames, making the hall burn hotter than any normal human would be able to bear.

He then released a more optimized slash of spatial power through the sword, cleanly cleaving off his opponent’s sword arm.

"GARG!"

Blood splattered on the floor as the man dropped to his knees, grimacing in pain. Still, he got to his feet with sheer force of will and grabbed his severed arm with his other hand, joining it back and attempting to use the law of life’s power to seal the wound.

"Impossible.

Unless you comprehend the law, you cannot heal from a wound caused by my spatial power."

Jamie teleported right in front of him and delivered a kick that swept him off his feet.

He then pointed his blade right at the man’s neck and declared the battle’s result.

"You’ve lost."
