Betrothed To An Alpha? I Don't Think So!-Chapter 118: A Werewolf?
"I should have fought harder to make you stay instead of watching you slip through my fingers." Zayne didn’t stop. "I should have said something instead of keeping quiet on you. I should have just... I love you, Evelyn. More than you can imagine. And I know you saw that thing, what I was. I am sure you—"
Evelyn pressed a finger to his lips, shaking her head at him. "Let’s talk about that later, okay? I want to be with you right now. I want to talk to you about so many things. So can we go home?"
"Home...?" He blinked at her.
She nodded at him. "Yes, home. Where you and I lived. Our home. Can we?"
"Of course. Yeah, let’s do that. Let’s go home," saying so, he grabbed her hand, interlocking his fingers with hers as they left exiting the mansion.
Alessio who’d wanted to talk to him let out a deep breath, taking a step away from the balcony.
Dario was in the room with him. He said, "You’ll eventually get to talk to him, Alessio. Just give him time. He’d missed his mate. Let him have all the time he needs with her, alright?"
Alessio forced himself to nod, walking over to the wine cabinet.
"Oh, by the way. That man we took with us, how is he?"
"Who?"
Dario lifted a brow. "The man with chestnut hair? He was beaten up."
"Oh, Luca?"
"Is that his name?"
"Yeah." Alessio nodded. "He was admitted to the hospital. He’d been in a temporary coma for a while, but I think he’s awake now."
"That’s a relief. No one died in all this." Dario exhaled softly. "By the way, is something bothering you?"
Alessio lifted a brow. "What do you mean?"
"You look troubled about something. What is it?"
Silence fell between the two of them. He wouldn’t talk.
"Alessio?" Dario persisted. "What is it? You know you can talk to me about anything. What exactly is bothering you this much?"
Alessio forced out a breath, lifting his hand to run his fingers through his hair. "I found my mate."
"And?" Dario narrowed his eyes. "That is a good thing. Why are you troubled?"
Alessio balled his hands. Took a few moments before he breathed out.
"She’s human."
Silence fell between the two men for a few moments before Dario flickered his eyes. "Human?"
"Yes."
"So...you’re in the same boat as Zayne?"
"You can put it that way."
"Alright. I get. But...why are you overthinking? Why aren’t you happy?" he asked. "It’s not as if anyone’s going to stop you from being with her."
"That’s the thing."
Alessio dragged his fingers through his hair.
"I have nothing against humans, but I didn’t want a human as a mate, Dario. I wanted an...omega."
Dario frowned at him. "But what’s so different between an omega and a human? I understand humans aren’t of our kind, but she’s your mate? Or you just don’t like her?"
"Like her?" Alessio turned to stare at him with an amused expression. "Of course, I don’t like her. I don’t even know her. I’ve only just met her recently."
"And is she beautiful?" Dario asked.
"Yes." He nodded. "Yes, she is. Undeniably so. However..." he breathed out. "She’s still not what I hoped for. Unlike Zayne, I didn’t want a human for a mate."
Dario folded his arms. "So, let me get this straight, you plan on rejecting her, don’t you?"
Alessio wouldn’t meet his gaze. He breathed out. "To be honest? I don’t really know. Rejecting a mate is a risky thing. There might never be a chance of a second mate. I feel conflicted."
"Then you should properly think about it. Don’t be reckless, Alessio. Don’t take an action you’ll regret, alright?"
He nodded. Didn’t argue at all. "I know. I plan to have a deep thought about it before I decide on what to do."

Evelyn sat at the edge of the bed, staring at Zayne who stood by the window of the room. They’d arrived home, but they had been in silence, because neither of them knew where to start. There were so many questions to ask.
But she was afraid to spit them out.
And Zayne was afraid of what to answer.
She fidgeted with her fingers against the window, swallowing as time ticked by. She had so many questions lingering on her tongue, but she didn’t really know where to start.
"Evelyn."
"Zayne."
They both went quiet, having spoken at the same time.
She half smiled at her. "You should go first. I’m sure you have more questions than I do to ask." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"I do," she admitted. "But first I want to know how you’re feeling. Your wound, does it hurt too much? Have you healed?" She stared intently at him, genuine worry in her gaze.
Zayne let out a soft breath. He pulled up his shirt, showing his stomach to her. "I’m alright. It took a while longer to heal because I lost quite a good amount of blood, but other than that, I’m okay."
"You heal fast, huh...?" she muttered.
He went silent.
There it was. That question was lingering.
"Evelyn—"
"What exactly are you, Zayne?" she asked, cutting him off. "That thing...that night, I-I saw it. And..." She gulped.
Zayne peered at her.
Where was he to begin?
Would he freak her out?
He slowly mumbled, "I want to begin by saying that nothing I’m going to tell you right now will change the fact that I am Zayne Mancini, the man you know. I love you and that is not a lie. Not at all."
She held his gaze. "I want the truth, Zayne," she said.
And he wholeheartedly cooperated with her, starting, "You weren’t hallucinating. What you saw was real. I am not human, Evelyn."
His confession. The admittance. She swallowed hard. "If you’re not human. W-what are you then?"
"Something called a werewolf," he answered, unable to breathe as his chest pounded.
"A werewolf?"
