Chapter 560: Chapter 560: This Is My Turf

Hugo Quinn’s face immediately darkened, but seeing Eleanor Hollis’s expectant eyes, he couldn’t refuse and silently got up.

Marcus didn’t dare look at his father’s expression, which surely looked bad, yet he felt inexplicably happy inside, excited at the thought of sleeping next to Mommy.

Hugo lay on the floor, feeling gloomy and not saying a word.

Eleanor pretended not to notice his expression and turned off the bedside lamp, plunging the room into darkness.

However, due to the lights outside, the room was still visible.

Marcus, sleeping on the same bed as Eleanor, felt secure and quickly fell asleep.

Eleanor held him, her gaze turning soft as she thought of Marcus as her son, her heart melting.

"Goodnight, honey, we’ll go to sleep now."

She said lightly, not hearing a response from Hugo, she couldn’t help but look up, seeing Hugo lying below, motionless, probably already asleep.

Eleanor curved her lips into a smile and fell asleep as well.

It wasn’t until both she and Marcus had very shallow breathing that Hugo slowly opened his eyes.

Without lying next to Eleanor, he couldn’t fall asleep.

He slowly got up, came to the bed, and seeing Marcus sleeping peacefully, got angry and bent over to pick up the child.

He still wanted to take over his bed; no way.

But as soon as he held Marcus in his arms, Marcus slowly awoke, looking calmly at him.

Hugo’s hand instantly froze; being caught in such a scene was a bit awkward, but he maintained his composure.

"You sleep on the floor; this is my territory."

Marcus was speechless. Dad was really stingy, not even willing to let Mom sleep next to him for one night. He used to lack a mother’s love as a poor little kid.

He was a bit upset, turning his face away.

"I won’t; I want to sleep with Mommy."

His voice was somewhat loud, and Hugo was afraid of waking Eleanor up. If Eleanor woke up, he would definitely be in trouble; wouldn’t this mean bullying his son?

"Then what do you want? Marcus, can you bear to split Daddy and Mommy?"

Marcus was stunned, seeing his father so serious, he felt a trace of guilt. Maybe Daddy really wanted to be with Mommy.

"Okay then."

He unwillingly said, being picked up by Hugo and placed on the ground mat without hesitation.

After lying contentedly next to Eleanor, Hugo smiled and pulled her into his arms.

Eleanor found a comfortable position in his arms and then fell asleep, never realizing that the person beside her had changed.

It wasn’t until the next morning, as she woke up, that she felt being held tightly, realizing Marcus’s body couldn’t be this big?

She broke free and got up, nearly fainting with anger upon seeing her son on the ground while the adult Hugo shamelessly lay on the bed!

"Hugo! Look at what you’ve done!"

Two adults sleeping in the bed, this doesn’t sound good when spread around!

Hugo slowly woke up, seemingly unaware of everything that happened, rubbing his eyes.

"You’re awake?"

Seeing him like this made Eleanor even more furious, pointing below.

"Didn’t I tell you to sleep on the floor last night? Why did you come up here?"

"Marcus wanted to switch with me last night; maybe he’s not used to sleeping with you."

Hugo lied without a blush, making Eleanor almost believe him.

She sighed, got down to check on Marcus.

Marcus was still asleep, sleeping soundly.

She pointed at Marcus, then looked at Hugo, who then seemed to have a pang of conscience and went to pick him up and put him on the bed.

Actually, Marcus was already awake, but he decided not to get involved in the adults’ battle, thinking that Daddy seemed quite shameless, and he’d be the one to suffer.

As the three were having breakfast, Collin Quinn came over, saying they caught a few people last night.

"They’re locked up at the station; they’re probably from that side."

He ate a few mouthfuls, took out a file folder, and placed it by Hugo.

"Some people from our side are colluding with them. This is the information I found. These are the spies they planted; I reckon there are many more hiding in the shadows. It’s best not to trust anyone these days; anyone could be a bad guy."

Collin wasn’t exaggerating. When he investigated this information, he was shocked himself; who would’ve thought so many people were colluding with them, from high-ranking officials to street beggars.

"I see."

Hugo took the information and looked at it, discovering he actually knew a few people on it; they were some trust-fund kids from Serenford, who did nothing all day except live off their families, and turned out they were making money like this behind the scenes.

"What about these people? Won’t they be arrested?"

Logically, colluding with them should be illegal, right? Why is there no reaction from above?

"I obtained this information from a dead man’s mouth. Other than this information, there’s no evidence of their collusion; how do we arrest them? It’s the 21st century now, arresting someone requires evidence."

Collin had been brooding over this for a day. Not to mention how frustrating it was, the key was that many of these trust-fund kids’ families were quite wealthy, and many were only children. If they were arrested, their older relatives would threaten to commit suicide. Without concrete evidence, they really couldn’t take action.

Hugo stared blankly at the document. Since they couldn’t be arrested, they could only stay away from them.

After finishing his meal, Collin said he had other things to do and, before leaving, gave a peace charm to Marcus.

"I got this from a temple some time ago. It works well when carried."

Whenever he was on a mission, he would carry it and never got hurt. Hopefully, it could protect Marcus this time.

After Collin left, Eleanor frowned in worry; things seemed serious.

"Maybe you shouldn’t go out these days."

She’s truly concerned and doesn’t want anything to happen to the people around her.

Hugo gazed at the documents, still lost in thought. Many people remained hidden, and these prominent families had been rotten from the core for a long time. The authorities had probably intended to act for a while, held back only by the lack of a suitable opportunity.

Serenford’s upper society was divided into two types: one with both wealth and power, the other with just wealth.

Simply having money was too limited, not enough to integrate into the true elite circles, and such families didn’t prioritize education, as businesspeople typically focused on profit.

The prominent families had a significant influence on Serenford’s commerce, and several of these families shielded one another, affecting the entire situation like a chain reaction. This was likely what concerned the authorities.

"I need to find a way to deal with these people. You and Marcus just stay home. Don’t worry, the house is very safe."
