Belated Moonlight: He Regretted Only After I Left-Chapter 30: Young Master Donovan, Are You Serious?
"Woke up?" Jasper froze, almost unable to believe his ears.
Grace’s sobbing also came to an abrupt stop, a trace of astonishment and panic flashed across her face, but she quickly masked it, "Really? Nurse, are you saying my mom woke up? Where is she?"
"Yes, early this morning Ms. Quinn showed clear signs of regaining consciousness. Since her vital signs have stabilized, she’s been moved to a regular VIP ward for observation and recovery," the nurse explained.
Awake...
Auntie Quinn woke up...
Jasper stood still in the same spot, feeling slightly dazed.
The tremendous shock left him a bit unresponsive.
For so many years, he had almost gotten used to Auntie Quinn lying lifelessly in bed, even deep down, he had accepted the worst possibility.
"That’s great! That’s great! Mom! Mom, you finally woke up!" Grace covered her mouth as tears flooded out, "Jasper! Did you hear? My mom woke up! Let’s hurry and see her!"
Jasper was pulled by her, mechanically walking toward room 1806.
Pushing open the ward door, warm sunlight streamed through the window.
A middle-aged woman, thin but with bright eyes, leaned against the headboard of the hospital bed. Her complexion still pale, yet her eyes were no longer empty and lifeless.
It was Audrey Quinn.
"Mom!" Grace immediately rushed to the bedside, "Mom! You finally woke up! You scared me!"
Audrey seemed still a bit weak, her reactions somewhat slow. She looked at her daughter clinging to her, then at Jasper standing stiffly at the door. Her lips moved, and she uttered a weak voice, "Jas... Jasper... you’re here too..."
Jasper walked step by step to the bedside, looking at this familiar yet strange face, emotions surging within his chest.
"Auntie Quinn..." he spoke, his voice dry, "How do you feel?"
"Still... still alright..." Audrey smiled weakly, "Just... no strength... as if... I’ve slept for a long time..."
"Mom, you’ve been asleep for five years!" Grace interjected, wiping her tears while observing Jasper’s expression, "You saved Jasper and... all these years, Jasper has been taking good care of us, visiting you often..."
Audrey looked at Jasper with loving eyes, "Thank you, Jasper..."
Jasper shook his head, "Auntie Quinn, don’t say that, it’s I who owe you."
And just as the atmosphere in the ward was warm, the attending physician knocked and walked in.
"Ms. Quinn’s physical functions are still very weak, requiring long-term rehabilitation treatment. Her memory may have some gaps or confusion that need a slow recovery. Emotionally, there shouldn’t be too large fluctuations."
Jasper listened attentively, noting everything down.
He looked at the weakened Audrey Quinn on the hospital bed, then glanced at Grace beside him, who was crying tears of joy.
Rationality told him that Auntie Quinn awakening was a great thing, it seemed the burden on his shoulders could lighten a bit.
But for some reason, a strange feeling rose vaguely in his heart.
Moreover, when he thought of Stella...
He took out his phone, trying to dial Stella’s number again, but it was still turned off.
His eyebrows involuntarily furrowed—Stella’s temper this time was indeed quite strong...
...
Riveria, Sterling & Associates.
As soon as Stella returned to the firm, she immediately began to act.
She first contacted the organizers of yesterday’s communication conference, formally submitting a request to retrieve surveillance footage as a lawyer, subtly suggesting that it could involve a criminal offense, hoping they would cooperate.
The organizers were initially somewhat evasive, but under Stella’s tough attitude and professional pressure, they ultimately agreed to assist.
Next, Stella started organizing all the evidence chain: surveillance footage, waiter testimonies, her own incident report, examination reports proving residual drug components in her body...
She wanted to make this case ironclad!
Grace must pay for her evil deeds!
As she busied herself, time flew by quickly.
By the time Stella completed a preliminary sorting of the materials, the lights outside were already coming on.
She leaned back in her chair, rubbing her throbbing temple.
Despite the waves of physical fatigue, her mind remained in a state of excitement.
Her gaze casually fell on a corner of the desk.
There lay a luxurious velvet box—the so-called ’apology gift’ sent by Jasper: an expensive diamond necklace.
She had been too lazy to deal with it, so it simply lay there.
Looking at the necklace, a mocking curve appeared on Stella’s lips.
If this were before, she might have felt happy...
But now, she just finds it ridiculous.
She took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and dialed a number: "Finn, book me the earliest available flight back to Kenton."
She wanted to personally go back and submit the police report.
Some accounts—
Should be settled face to face.
...
Just as Stella was busily preparing to return to Kenton, Shane Donovan was sitting in the top-floor office of Innovatech Tower, receiving Evan Hughes’s call.
"Hey, Young Master Donovan, how was it? Was last night’s battle intense?" Evan’s voice carried a hint of gossip-fueled excitement.
Shane listened expressionlessly to the noise on the other end of the line, his fingers lightly tapping on the desk.
"Yesterday, did you do it on purpose?" He suddenly spoke, his voice as cold as ice.
He should have realized sooner, with Evan’s shrewdness, he must have seen someone drugging Stella, yet he didn’t intervene, choosing to watch the show with a hidden agenda, which was obvious.
The laughter on the other end stopped abruptly, and after a few seconds, Evan awkwardly said, "Ahem... wasn’t I creating an opportunity for you... see, didn’t it work out well? Hero saves beauty, beauty is won over..."
"No next time." Shane interrupted him, his tone carrying a warning.
Evan sensed the coldness in his words, subdued his jokes, "Got it, got it, there won’t be a next time, really..."
He smacked his lips, "I say, Young Master Donovan, are you serious?"
"What ’serious’?" Shane’s voice was indifferent.
"Don’t pretend with me..." Evan couldn’t help but roll his eyes, "You wouldn’t actually like The Sterling Cripple’s sister, would you? Since when? How come I didn’t know? Quite the secret you kept..."
"Ha."
Seeing that Shane was completely ignoring him, Evan pouted, "Initially, I thought you just wanted to see The Sterling Cripple embarrass himself, purposely sacrificing charm..."
"Evan Hughes!"
Finally seeing a reaction, Evan exaggeratedly hissed on the other end, pleading quickly, "Alright, alright, I was wrong, Young Master Donovan please don’t be angry, I’ll shut up, I’ll get lost!"
The call was disconnected, and the office returned to silence.
Shane tossed his phone onto the desk, his body leaning back into the large chair, rubbing his brows.
Evan Hughes, this guy, never knows when to stop, and this time, he’s gone too far.
But... 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Thinking about last night’s girl in his arms, unexpectedly passionate, Shane’s lips curled into an imperceptibly faint smile.
Forget it, he’ll deal with him next time!
