Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 54: Sentenced to 3 Years
Felicia Yates’s heart leaped in alarm. Justin Kane’s stare sent a chill down her spine.
’Does he know something?’
’No, that’s impossible.’
Felicia Yates quickly composed herself and continued her angry tirade: "Justin, I know you’re capable—the entire Kane Family has been handed to you. But even if Cole was in the wrong, did you really need to be so heavy-handed? To show absolutely no regard for the bond between brothers!" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Her words were filled with accusation.
Justin Kane’s earlier words had left the other three reeling.
Cole Kane gritted his teeth and said resentfully, "Big Brother, no matter what, Nina Thorne and I are engaged. Even if I went about it the wrong way, she’s going to be my wife eventually. I was just doing things a married couple would do, a bit ahead of schedule."
Serena Kane sounded even more certain. "Exactly. Second Brother and Nina Thorne were already in a relationship, and she’s so in love with him. Maybe after this all blows over and she’s calmed down, she’ll stop making a fuss."
"Are you finished?"
Justin Kane’s features were naturally cold and stern, and his gaze was sharp and intimidating as it swept over them. "Nina Thorne already proposed to break the engagement. She no longer has a marriage contract with Cole Kane. All that’s left is for the two families to sit down and finalize it."
"As for you," Justin Kane’s sharp gaze fixed on Cole Kane, "drugging someone with intent to commit sexual assault carries a minimum sentence of three years."
Cole Kane was shocked. "Big Brother, you’d send me to jail for Nina Thorne? Am I even your real brother?"
’My real brother?’
A mocking smirk touched Justin Kane’s lips. He didn’t have time to waste on them. "Make a choice. Either you break the engagement and compensate Nina Thorne, or you go to prison."
His tone left no room for negotiation, startling them into looking at each other in dismay.
"Big Brother! I’m your own brother, how could you push me like this! Why on earth are you protecting Nina Thorne so fiercely?" Cole Kane shouted hysterically.
He shouted so hard he injured his ribs. The pain contorted his face, and he immediately quieted down.
But he still couldn’t understand. Big Brother had always looked down on Nina Thorne, so why was he protecting her so fiercely now?
Felicia Yates said in disbelief, "Justin Kane, you’re actually helping an outsider against your own brother? People always said you were cold-blooded and ruthless, and I see now it’s true!"
Serena Kane pleaded softly, "Big Brother, why don’t you stay out of this and let Second Brother and Nina Thorne talk things out?
Nina Thorne only said she wanted to break the engagement in a fit of anger. She loves Second Brother so much, how could she really leave him?"
"By doing this, you’ll undoubtedly be the bad guy."
Felicia Yates agreed with Serena Kane. "That’s right, Justin. Since Nina Thorne is fine, just stay out of it. I won’t even hold it against you for hitting Cole..."
"You are welcome to pursue it," Justin Kane said coldly.
"What?"
Justin Kane’s expression was indifferent. "If you want to press the matter, you’re welcome to call the police. That would be perfect, actually. They can take Cole in at the same time and question him about the drugging and attempted assault."
Their hearts pounded with fear.
Outsiders all said that Justin Kane was brilliant and ruthless, but to think he would use such a tactic on his own family.
Felicia Yates immediately lost control and yelled, "Justin Kane, has that woman Nina Thorne bewitched you? How dare you do this?"
Justin Kane’s expression remained cold, unmoved.
From beginning to end, Ethan Kane’s face was grim and somber. He hadn’t said a single word.
Felicia Yates reached out and shoved him hard. "Say something! Your son is about to have your other son arrested! Are you just going to stand by and watch Justin Kane tear this family apart?!"
In public, Felicia Yates was poised and proper. But in private, she often yelled at Mr. Kane like this, even trying to dominate him.
Ethan Kane had always been mild-tempered, his mind focused on business, and he often gave in to her. But this time, Felicia Yates was in for a disappointment.
"We’ll do as Justin says. Cole will break the engagement with Nina Thorne, offer a sum for emotional distress, and apologize."
Ethan Kane’s words stunned Felicia Yates. She shrieked, "Ethan Kane, you’re agreeing to break the engagement? I think you’ve lost your mind! I forbid it!"
"Enough! Shut your mouth!" Ethan Kane snapped.
Felicia Yates, who had never been spoken to like this by him, was instantly silenced, staring at him blankly for a moment.
Most of her fiery anger dissipated. "Have you even considered Cole’s feelings in all this?"
Ethan Kane was furious. "He brought this on himself! It’s his own damn fault! To think he’d resort to such a despicable trick! He deserves it!"
"Dad, I don’t want to break the engagement," Cole Kane said, finding it hard to accept.
Serena Kane also pleaded for him. "Yes, Dad, how can you just decide to break the engagement like that? It’s so unfair to Second Brother..."
’She said that, but inwardly she was ecstatic. The day they broke off their engagement had finally come.’
’She’d despised that bitch Nina Thorne for a long time!’
Ethan Kane said resolutely, "My mind is made up on this matter. I will discuss it with Master Thorne later. There’s no need to say any more."
The three of them were speechless, glaring at Justin Kane with hatred, yet not daring to actually vent their anger on him.
After all, he was the heir to the Kane Family, holding its very lifeline in his hands.
Before leaving, Justin Kane warned them coldly, his back still turned: "Listen here. Don’t you go bothering her again. If anything else happens to her, you’ll bear the consequences."
Those words were as good as a declaration that he would be protecting Nina Thorne from now on.
This left them shocked, even baffled. Why was Justin Kane being so good to Nina Thorne?
He’d even beaten his own brother for her.
Serena Kane mustered her courage and asked, "Big Brother, protecting Nina Thorne like this... it’s hard for people not to think there’s something between you two."
Justin Kane stopped, turned his head, and swept a cold glance over them. "And what if there is?"
It was a seemingly indifferent sentence, yet it oozed dominance, shocking them to the core and striking fear into their hearts.
After Justin Kane left, Ethan Kane gave them a few more instructions before leaving as well.
"Mom, I don’t want to break the engagement. If we do, it’s all over for me," Cole Kane said, only daring to vent his dissatisfaction after the others had left.
Felicia Yates frowned. "I didn’t expect Justin to actually rescue Nina Thorne, either. And I certainly didn’t expect him to care so much about that woman."
Serena Kane’s eyes darted, and she seized the chance to stir up trouble. "Mom, you don’t know. Before this, Second Brother and I already noticed something was off. We always felt that Big Brother and Nina Thorne’s relationship was unusual."
Felicia Yates was utterly shocked. "Are you sure?"
"Positive."
The two said in unison.
Felicia Yates narrowed her cold eyes. "If that’s the case, I’ll ruin Nina Thorne’s reputation completely!"
Hearing this, a triumphant glint flashed in Serena Kane’s eyes.
’She couldn’t wait to see Nina Thorne, a high-society heiress, being reviled by thousands.’
...
Nina Thorne took an afternoon nap and didn’t wake up until seven in the evening.
Justin Kane returned, entered the room with light steps, and walked to the bedside. Seeing she was awake, his features softened into a smile.
"Did you sleep well?"
Nina Thorne hummed, her voice lazy and drowsy. She looked soft and utterly delectable.
Justin Kane remembered what he had said to her when he left at noon. His Adam’s apple bobbed. "Nina Thorne, do you remember our agreement?"
Nina Thorne rubbed her eyes, asking cluelessly, "What?"
"This..."
Justin Kane’s body suddenly leaned over her. His large hand supported her back, near her rib cage, almost touching where it shouldn’t.
"We agreed to ’discuss’ it when I got back tonight. How about we ’discuss’ it now?"
