Chapter 26: Chapter 26: The Annulment

Nina Thorne might have been crazy.

For a split second, she’d actually thought Justin Kane was talking about her.

The bout of narcissism lasted less than a few seconds.

Her heart sank, and she didn’t ask any more questions.

But in truth, she wasn’t just surprised; she was also a little uncomfortable.

It was as if she was terrified of Justin Kane having someone he liked.

Perhaps it was because she had already started getting used to her role as Mrs. Justin Kane.

...

Her thoughts returned to the present. Nina Thorne finished her Chinese-style snacks and, keeping a close eye on the time, headed to the airport early to pick up Macy Lynch.

Macy Lynch was returning to the country today, scheduled to arrive at one o’clock.

There were no delays, and Nina Thorne picked up Macy Lynch without a hitch.

Seeing Macy Lynch emerge from the arrivals gate, Nina Thorne waved. "Over here."

The fashionably dressed Macy Lynch, wearing sunglasses, spotted her and excitedly pushed her luggage cart in a run toward Nina Thorne, giving her a huge hug.

"Babe, I missed you like crazy."

With their many years of friendship, the joy was genuine.

Nina Thorne was being squeezed so tightly that she had to pat Macy’s back a few times. Her voice was muffled as she said, "If you keep hugging me like this, I’m going to suffocate."

Macy Lynch reluctantly let go, her smile brilliant. "Come on, treat me to a meal. The airplane food was disgusting..."

The two left the airport and got into a luxury commercial van.

Justin Kane had known that Nina Thorne was picking someone up from the airport today and had arranged for the car in advance.

Inside the car, Macy Lynch offered her praise. "Looks like this Justin Kane guy treats you pretty well. Have you two..."

As she spoke, her voice and expression turned suggestive.

Nina Thorne shot her a glance and gave a helpless smile. "You should lay off the romance novels and idol dramas..."

"Wrong." Macy Lynch crossed her arms and leaned back comfortably against the leather seat. "I usually watch action movies..."

Nina Thorne lowered her head and pressed a hand to her forehead. "..."

’The driver is right here!’

Macy Lynch never cared about the time or place when she spoke.

To put it mildly, her attitude toward life was uninhibited and she didn’t sweat the small stuff.

In reality, she was just worldly and experienced.

...

As per Macy Lynch’s preference, the two went for Sichuan-style Chinese food.

During the meal, she got an update on Nina Thorne and Justin Kane’s married life.

Macy Lynch was disappointed. "You’re seriously letting a perfectly good piece of meat go to waste? What a shame, with Justin Kane’s amazing body and looks."

Some people glanced over. Nina Thorne shushed her. "Keep your voice down. We’re in public, and you’re a public figure, for crying out loud."

Macy Lynch scoffed. "Don’t be fooled by their fancy clothes and serious faces. They’re probably wilder than anyone in private."

Nina Thorne had no rebuttal.

Cole Kane’s friends were a perfect example.

As if on the same wavelength, Macy Lynch then started cursing out the scumbag, Cole Kane.

"A brainless, self-righteous creature like him will be played to death by Serena Kane sooner or later. Just you wait."

"A scumbag like that is like a potato in a garbage heap—rotten to the core..."

Nina Thorne couldn’t help but chuckle.

Macy Lynch was truly her mouthpiece.

...

After dinner, Macy Lynch dragged Nina Thorne to a shopping mall.

As they shopped, they were followed by a trail of admiring gazes.

Both had bright, striking looks, but Nina Thorne had a gentler temperament, while Macy Lynch gave off a cold and aloof vibe.

In reality, once you got to know them, you’d find their personalities were the opposite. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Entering a shoe store, Macy Lynch picked up a pair of nude-colored stilettos with a narrow, pointed toe. They looked to be about four inches high.

"Nina Thorne, these shoes are perfect for you." Macy Lynch handed them over. "You’re fair-skinned, and you have beautiful feet. Try them on."

The highest heels Nina Thorne usually wore were about three inches.

She frowned. "Aren’t these a bit too high?"

"Yeah, they are. Be careful you don’t fall and kill yourself." A domineering female voice cut in.

The familiar voice made Nina Thorne’s brows furrow, and she and Macy Lynch turned their heads at the same time.

Sure enough, they saw Serena Kane and another woman walking up to them.

"I was wondering who had such a foul mouth. No surprise it’s you," Macy Lynch said with cold sarcasm upon seeing her. "Someone who’d even seduce her own brother isn’t just foul-mouthed and black-hearted—she’s also utterly despicable."

Nina Thorne pursed her lips into a smile. ’When it comes to roasting people, you have to hand it to Macy.’

Serena Kane’s expression turned ugly. "Macy Lynch, stop sticking up for her. This has nothing to do with you."

"What? You have the guts to do it but not to admit it? You had no shame when you did those things, so what are you afraid of now?"

Macy Lynch sneered coldly. "Oh, I forgot. This is the classic trick of a green tea bitch."

"Macy Lynch, don’t be so harsh," the woman standing next to Serena Kane said righteously.

Her name was Corinne Kerr. The four of them had been in the same class during college.

Seeing her, Nina Thorne’s gaze turned icy.

Back then, Corinne had been an accomplice in the things Serena Kane had done to her.

The two of them were cut from the same cloth.

Macy Lynch took a few steps forward, shielding Nina Thorne. "Are you still acting as Serena Kane’s lackey?"

She launched into a taunt. "Corinne Kerr, you really haven’t changed in ten years. You’ve been licking her boots for so long you’ve probably forgotten who your own ancestors are."

Nina Thorne silently gave her a thumbs-up.

’She’s incredible. I need to be Macy’s standard-bearer!!’

"Macy Lynch, what did you say!" Corinne Kerr’s voice was hoarse with anger. She started to raise her hand, then stopped.

"Try me if you want to get physical." Macy Lynch’s gaze sharpened.

At five-foot-nine, even in low-heeled boots, her intimidating presence completely overwhelmed them.

Corinne Kerr choked on her words, not daring to make a move.

"Macy Lynch, you call Corinne a lackey, but aren’t you just Nina Thorne’s little follower?" Serena Kane retorted angrily.

She was wearing a round-neck halter dress that exposed her collarbones and a large expanse of skin on her arms, perfectly covering the burn on her chest.

"Don’t you dare compare Corinne to Macy. She’s not worthy." Nina Thorne stepped around Macy to stand beside her, her sharp gaze fixed on Serena Kane’s chest. "Wasn’t I rough enough last time? Do you want more?"

Nina Thorne’s gaze burned her like a scorching flame, making her feel as if she were reliving the sensation of being burned that day.

Serena Kane flinched inwardly. "Nina Thorne, you’re a lunatic! No wonder Brother Cole wanted to break off the engagement with you!"

Macy Lynch couldn’t stand her arrogance. Knowing that Serena had deliberately burned Nina’s hand, she reached out and shoved her hard on the shoulder.

"Nina Thorne deserves a better man. Only you would treasure a piece of trash like Cole Kane. Tell me, as his sister, falling for your own brother... how pathetic is that? Are all the other men in the world not enough for you?"

Macy Lynch’s words were like a knife, stabbing at Serena Kane until her face flushed red with shame.

Especially with the sales associate still watching, her eyes filled with gossipy disdain.

"You’re talking nonsense!"

Humiliated and enraged, Serena Kane raised her hand to slap Macy Lynch, but Nina Thorne swiftly grabbed her wrist and forcefully shoved her away.

Nina Thorne’s expression was cold. "Was Macy wrong? You know perfectly well what you did three years ago."

Serena Kane’s body stiffened, her expression wary.

Corinne Kerr didn’t notice her strange reaction and shouted, "Slandering Serena like this is going too far! Nina Thorne, you’re so malicious you can’t stand to see her happy. No wonder Cole broke off the engagement with you. You deserved it."

"You’re asking for it too. I’ve been putting up with you for a long time." Macy Lynch swung her hand and slapped her across the face, warning, "Say one more word about Nina Thorne, and I’ll break your damn legs and rip your mouth apart."

Corinne Kerr’s cheek burned with fiery pain. Humiliated and furious, she charged at Macy Lynch. "I’ll kill you!"

In an instant, the two were grappling with each other. Macy Lynch not only had the height advantage but was also a judo expert. She had Corinne Kerr screaming and looking utterly disheveled.

A crowd gathered at the store’s entrance to watch.

Serena Kane glared hatefully at Nina Thorne, but didn’t dare provoke her. She felt both angry and humiliated, wishing she could just abandon Corinne Kerr and leave.

Just then, a sharp male voice called out, "Nina Thorne, what are you doing?"

Nina Thorne followed the sound with her eyes, and her expression immediately darkened when she saw who it was.

’What bad luck. The piece of trash is here!!’
